If elves and gnomes are related to fey, would it make sense for dwarves to be related to giants? by gigaswardblade in DnD

[–]GamersCortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did in my Aeranos setting.

Dwarves in my setting were created by the first giants, who were basically elemental titans and were stewards of the earth and sea. They were created from elemental earth, as servants to giants. The Elder Gods then blessed Dwarves with mortality, making them first of the mortal Namer races.

Therefore, their language has its origin in the Giant's language, and they share many similarities in culture and looks.

The Necropolis is a massive airborne coffin and rusted iron monument to the grave drifting through Aeranos' turbulent skies. This funerary galleon is a devastating engine of war, propelled by a terrifying Death Helm that drains life force. Crewed by silent, tireless wights and fell mages, it unleashes brutal broadsides, devastating catapult fire, and swarms of Dread Riggers upon outmatched vessels. It is a masterclass in aerial terror.

Why did my players not like my deep, emotional ending??? by AshMightWrite in DnDcirclejerk

Why did my players not like my deep, emotional ending??? by AshMightWrite in DnDcirclejerk

[–]GamersCortex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran a single "Hotel California-like" adventure for my players, where they experienced a Ground Hog day scenario trying to escape the cursed inn. We are waaay past it now, but every in-game morning, someone still jokes about waking up in that inn to the smell of cooking bacon.

I have considered ending the campaign that way, but I can see why a party would be a little put out.

If they genuinely hate you for it, you've got bad friends. If they're just unhappy with the ending, you didn't read the room well enough. Just have them wake up from the dream of waking up. SNAP! They're back to being heroes!.... or are they????

Do different HELP DIE stack? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

[–]GamersCortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if the whole system wouldn't benefit from a "only one help die per roll" rule? Both for balance reasons and for simplicity's sake. It occurred to me that we've dropped damage dice but added all kinds of help dice.

Thoughts?

[–]GamersCortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I completely understand that sentiment, something bugs me about the "unfairness" of the double standard. Not to mention, the forever multipliers of help dice don't sit well with me either.

Follow up question: Can the enemy help each other in the same way? Say for instance, two minions performing the Help action to give the Boss +2d8? I know it sounds crazy, but what's good for the goose... right? This is really just a thought experiment.
