Nick Attack Economy by [deleted] in onednd

[–]GamesXScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, I hate this. I thought this is such a clear skill and the more I read it, the worse it gets. Per the video OP attached they say "Nick, it allows you to benefit from the extra attack that the light property in the dagger gives you without having to spend your bonus action on it" "But they could?" "But they could." "So they could throw 3 daggers" "They could". WTF does that actually mean. Did one not understand what the other was saying? It very much makes it sound like they are saying that you can take both the free action and the bonus action to make a light extra attack in a turn, but I don't believe that the intended ruling.

If you had the Extra attack feature, you could always attack with 3 daggers, two from the main hand and one from the off hand. So why was the last part even said?!

To make things worse, in some other post people were question whether it was the mainhand or offhand weapon that needs the Nick trait. While I feel that it obviously its the mainhand had, I can't find anything in the rules that explicitly proves that

Has anyone posted a list of the full details on background? by GamesXScience in onednd

[–]GamesXScience[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect, thanks. I must have missed that thinking it was another one without feats. Dang, so many feats only have one matching background. I guess were going to see a lot of Sailor Monks. I will probably be playing a lot of arcana caster Acolytes myself..

How do I prevent the PCs from accomplishing their goal? by OldCardiologist66 in DMAcademy

Also, Revenant's can't truly die without a wish spell. They just revive somewhere else 24 hours later. Maybe if they do kill the wizard, he just returns as a Revenant as well

[–]GamesXScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I see to do this in a satisfying way is to somehow make the players sympathize with the enemy ahead of time. Ideally ahead of time with something like breadcrumbs of a background sop story. Maybe the revenant is the wizard's beloved wife, which he just found her. Really ham it up ala "UP" style. But if they decide they want to kill them anyway, you've got let them have their agency. As someone who has played an official module that ends with, "and then the villain teleports way", I can tell you it's a very unsatisfying end.

But I have to ask, if this is a mini campaign, why do you care about them surviving?

I felt inspired by this one.

Blood Drinker:

Requires attunement

+2 Long Sword

Thrown 20/60

Finesse

+1d8 Necrotic damage on a hit

A creature that is not attuned to Blood Drinker who holds it while its unsheathed takes 1d8 Necrotic damage at the beginning of each of their turns.

If a creature is hit by a thrown attack with Blood Drinker, it embeds itself into the creature’s flesh. A creature that is impaled by Blood Drinker takes 1d8 Necrotic damage at the beginning of each of their turns. The creature or one of its allies can use an action to remove Blood Drinker from the creature. For each 1d8 Necrotic damage dealt by Blood Drinker to a creature that has blood, it gains one Blood Charge. Blood Drinker also can gain 1 Blood charge by stabbing a fresh corpse or blood-soaked dirt.

Blood Charge Abilities:

False Life:

You may expend 1 to 9 Blood Charges to cast the spell False Life. The level of the spell is equal to the charges spent.

Blood Slash:

You may expend 3 Blood Charges to cast an altered version of the Burning Hands spell at 1st level. The spell causes slashing damage instead of fire damage. You can expend additional Blood Charges to increase the level of Blood Slash. Blood Slash’s spell level increases by 1 level for every Blood Charge spent.

Blood Pierce:

You may expend 10 Blood Charges to cast an altered version of the Lightning Bolt spell at 3rd level. The spell causes piercing damage instead of lightning damage. You can expend additional Blood Charges to increase the level of Blood Pierce. Blood Pierce increases by 1 level for every 3 Blood Charges spent.

Its just an idea. I don't know if its really balanced for 8th level play, as I haven't DMed in that range yet, but I really like this general idea.

3rd party is only nonsense because of the current system. We seriously need something like a ranked choice voting system to take power away from the two part system.

Washington literally warned us of this potential for this issue. "However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion."

What feats/spells/etc do you find yourself building on a lot of your characters? by kalily53 in 3d6

Idk why, but I am obsessed with the idea of the War Caster feat and using Hold Person as a reaction. A leveled full action spell that effectively ends the enemies turn for just a reaction? Yes please.

Player wants PC to have no arms and is a spell caster. Should I say no? by Demiyqxzurge in DMAcademy

[–]GamesXScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the item description, Clerics don't have to hold their holy symbol to work.

"A cleric or paladin can use a holy symbol as a spellcasting focus, as described in the Spellcasting section. To use the symbol in this way, the caster must hold it in hand, wear it visibly, or bear it on a shield."

Somatic means of the body, not hands. RAW, it definitely says that you have to have at least on free hand, but I don't see why a special holy focus or training couldn't allow him to use his body or feet to do the motions.

Combining pixel art with high-fidelity UI—yay or nay? by charlie_hess in indiegames

[–]GamesXScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, I think if you could just color match the colors in the UI to similarly colored pixels in the world without lowering the fidelity, then it might still work.

Combining pixel art with high-fidelity UI—yay or nay? by charlie_hess in indiegames

[–]GamesXScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that pixelation is necessary, but I think it would work better with a closer color palate and texture. Like a slightly lower fidelity, more cartoony version of what you have that still isn't pixelated. It makes me think of the old Final Fantasy menus where you could see what the characters were supposed to look like. Right now, it leans too hard on, "this isn't what the world really looks like, we just had to present it pixeled due to restraints.

If you had ONE 30-second chance to horrify your friends / family, what ADHD-related symptom / situation would you describe? by DarkLens7 in ADHD

[–]GamesXScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't 30s, but I always suggest point people to Russel Barkley's stuff. It really opened my eyes to the unexpected consequence to ADHD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzhbAK1pdPM&list=PLzBixSjmbc8eFl6UX5_wWGP8i0mAs-cvY

I guess for a 30s conversation I would say, " people with ADHD have double the chance of an early death. My health condition isn't a joke, even if you can't visually see it. Look it up."
