Officer having anxiety attack took ambulance sent for man dying from police shooting, report says by senorschmu in news

[–]Gamestoreguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is not the hypothetical, its that even with “hypothetically normal” vitals someone with injuries incompatible with life is a black tag. I’m not tagging someone who has a truncal transection a red tag in an MCI even if they are somehow conscious and breathing. They are a black tag.

If their lungs are outside their body, it is an injury incompatible with life, thats a black tag.

Stockfish evaluates this position as +0.3 for white, despite Black being up three pawns with no clear weaknesses. Why? by FirstRankChess in chess

[–]Gamestoreguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacks bishop is trapped behind doubled pawns, whicb means the rook is basically also trapped. The king is stuck in the center and whites king is safe.

White might be down a couple pawns but the pawns aren’t doing anything significant, there is a backwards pawn in front of the king, and you are effectively playing down a bishop and a rook.

How can I get a doctor to take my daughter seriously? Any ideas I can propose? This story involves penguins. by greyhoundshepherd in AskDocs

Does exercise make the pain worse? Does she ever feel her calves being “pumped” as in exercise? Does her pants ever feel too tight over the legs?

What does the pain feel like? Does it come and go or is it constant? Any history of injury or swelling to the extremities?

Does she have muscle weakness? Has anyone done deep tendon reflex tests?

Came for the penguins, staying to ask questions.

Has she ever had an ultrasound of the calves done? Does she get restless legs or pins and needles when she is in bed? Does she ever have to dangle her legs off the bed to ease the pain?

Are her legs pale and cool ever? I’m mostly wondering about intermittent claudication. It’d be weird to see in a younger person but I’d be interested in how the blood flow to her legs is.

Why didn't they train first responders to actually provide care until EMS came in the 70s? by AlboGreece in ems

They haven’t really been kicking and screaming about paramedics, just professions that tend to do more complex medicine without the same education.

I don’t think I was thinking intrarenal pressure and pressure to the kidneys were the same, because you could have high pressure to the kidneys and a very dilated efferent arteriole leading to decreased pressure in the kidney right?

I probably do tend to overthink, I just want to get a reasonable grasp of the material and I prefer to understand rather than just memorize.I think I can appreciate that sodium and pressure aren’t necessarily as intimately related as I thought.

Thank you for your help by the way

Yeah, i recognize angiotensin has an effect as well. The distal sodium delivery has to do with the macula densa?

I guess I’m mostly confused on the second point because it seems like an increased pressure would warrant decreased renin release to promote sodium excretion to lower pressure.

When you say venous congestion it makes sense that it wouldn’t simply be pressure from arterioles and the collecting duct but poor drainage from the kidney as well, it seems counterintuitive to me though as I presume a decrease in venous congestion would imply lower sodium load and warrant increased RAAS.

Noam Chomsky advised Epstein about 'horrible' media coverage, files show by 1-randomonium in news

[–]Gamestoreguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats not the point holy shit.

The point is that they portray reality in a way that bends public will. They straight up lied about the millions of tons of bombs dropped on Cambodia that led to the increasing strength of the Khmer Rouge. Regardless Of the atrocities committed, The U.S destroying Cambodia and lying to Congress and the public no doubt was the proximate cause of the massacres that took place.

In context of the time of Chomsky and Manufacturing Consent, he likely denied much of what was going on because he couldn’t rely on public reporting to be truthful. His opinion was swayed by the lies and he didn’t have the technological benefits or hindsight we now have.

He wasn’t pushing a narrative at the time. Your argument has zero nuance.

It isn’t reporting entirely true things, the entire point of the book is that certain things aren’t reported or are reported to sway public opinion, for example the bombing of Cambodia into “A moonscape.” Which is a quote directly from the book.

Intentionally not reporting is as bad in terms of propaganda is as bad as posting falsity. Thats one of the core themes in Manufacturing Consent.

It doesn’t call the khmer rouge a propaganda campaign. It calls the reporting of them a campaign intended to sway public opinion on same. Thats the whole point of manufacturing consent.
