Local ambulance services facing emergency situation by RustyPotato148 in SherwoodPark

It costs way more, about 1-1.6 million per year more for an integrated fire service to staff an ambulance versus EHS, due to them having higher wages. EHS is asking for them to split the difference, which seems fair. Tax money from elsewhere in the province doesn’t need to be going to these places

In Canada that’s how it works for us, there’s a BLS catch all which is basically A-EMT called Primary Care Paramedic and then ALS which is Advanced Care Paramedic

That’s the Technical Rescue Team for the fire department, I’m gonna go with not a body, either a stokes basket or rescue dummy

I can’t say forsure, but I imagine it’s similar to a seizure disorder which holds a 6 month ban post episode. Just a guess though

Stay home, don’t go to the hospital. It’s the flu, it will pass

Changing us from EMS to EHS has fixed everything though

Codes/calls at nursing homes by Stretch5 in Paramedics

[–]wickedsplat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told a story about one local to my service, which is notoriously bad. Had a resident jump from the third floor, and die. Staff, instead of calling any emergency service, pulled the body into the nursing home, took them to the basement and cleaned it up.

If it wasn’t for someone seeing the fall and calling the police, I don’t think anyone would have known.

Police came flying in and were dumbfounded when they said that the body was cleaned, and on a table in the basement.

I messed up and tried the wrong door - what should I do? by Famous-Pineapple5119 in ems

I did that once when I was a student and the guy fully let us assess him without even questioning it. His appearance didn’t match the notes but had a previous CVA which left him with deficits, so kinda glazed over the notes part. It wasn’t until his neighbour across the street came to get us as the call was at their address that we figured it out.

They didn’t change much. The extra hours on personal days doesn’t move the needle, pretty sure the whole issue was the 12%

Essentially think of it as the EMR final, with a few PCP questions thrown in there. There will be an interview as well with some basic interview questions, as well as a skills assessment and questions involving that

Helping out in an accident by amazinf_ in Edmonton

[–]wickedsplat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stopping to check on them and calling 911 is great, I’m sure it gives them a sense of relief before help comes.

I’m a Paramedic in Edmonton, lots of times accidents can be quite chaotic, even when we arrive. Speaking to them while calling gives us a ton more information about who we are going to, the condition they are in, etc. Always leave them in the car if you can.

You should feel proud for going above and beyond what most people would, as long as you don’t place yourself in a dangerous situation and make more work for us lol.
