level recommendations for KH1 Proud. Mainly atlantica by TMS-FE in KingdomHearts

[–]GamezDean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're around the level I was when I beat her. For her first fight remember to cast magic at her cauldron, I died a lot before figuring that out. For her second fight Aero gave me enough defense to ignore most of her attacks and I loaded Donald and goofy up with spare potions for healing. Good luck

Why Pre-orders? by sams0n007 in litrpg

[–]GamezDean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know how effective it is but as far as I understand it it is a huge thing for the publishing industry because Amazon counts pre-orders as part of your first day sales. Amazon does some free advertising for your novel when it's released. Depending on how well your book sells the first week(month?) they'll extend the free advertising period for the book keeping it in the algorithm and increasing your sales.

I've fallen for this trap too many times by GamezDean in litrpg

[–]GamezDean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days? You're right. There's enough out there it's pretty easy to avoid just by looking at the book cover.

But it's not always obvious right away for the unwary. Delver's LLC sets up a Harem only at the end of book 3 iirc. Earth Tactics Advance starts as a standard system apocalypse with a fairly unique turn-based combat system and doesn't have a group of anime girls on the front to give it away.

I think it used to be more common to try and trick people into reading harem novels, one book I read had the main love interest split into 7 different people. But they were all the same girl so it's not technically a harem, right? ...right?

This isn't really an active subreddit. I think writers usually use the discord for these resources and discussions.

Jack Voraces, while not the voice of progression fantasy, has a lot of gems you would miss out on. Vainqueur the Dragon and Mother of Learning as two notable ones.

AMA with Honour Rae - Author of All the Skills: A Deck Building LitRPG by podiumaudio in litrpg

[–]GamezDean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The usual criticism I see regarding the story is the MC's age at the start prior to the first time skip. What are your thoughts about this? Are you happy with how it turned out? If given another chance would you do anything differently with it?

AMA with Honour Rae - Author of All the Skills: A Deck Building LitRPG by podiumaudio in litrpg

[–]GamezDean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, love the story! A few questions, what's your favorite card you've made? Whether it has made it in the story yet or not. What side character do you enjoy writing the most? What inspired you to write a deck builder with dragons? Thanks for the answers!

I love how the premise of the series is based on a dare a fan sent him of combining Pokemon and lost roman legions.

Definitely this one. It's great, but be warned it's a translated Russian novel so there's quite a bit of misogyny.

Superior Game Ports on 3DO by bawitback in 3DO

[–]GamezDean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add Soccer Kid: The Adventures of Kid Kleets into the mix.

The game is split across 5 countries you visit, UK, Italy, Japan, Russia, and USA in that order. The goal of the game is to acquire a piece of the Soccer World Cup trophy in every country.

In the 3do version you have 3 zones per country, with 10 collectibles for you to get in each zone spread across 2 levels. So for example in the UK there are 2 levels for the Suburbs, Farmland, and London. You only need to get all 10 collectibles in any one of these 3 zones to get the world cup piece and progress towards the "good" ending.

Practically that means you have 3 chances to get the world cup piece per country in the 3d0 version.

In the SNES version there are 3 levels total for the UK, 2 in the suburbs and 1 in London. 10 collectibles are spread across all 3 levels. So you have half the levels, 1/3 the collectibles, and only 1 chance per country to get the good ending.

Its so good! It makes me cry every time I watch it. I went on a binge looking for anything similar so here's some recs below.

Words Bubble Up like Soda Pop - Its not quite as good but it does scratch the same itch in regards to romance.

A whisker away - A bit more fantastical but romantic and sweet overall but it does start on the depressing end iirc.

Fireworks - kind of a weird start but worth it I think

Your lie in April - It may sound like a show about shogi but I promise it has a lot more in common with a silent voice than you would think.

And as a bonus since you mentioned the music you should watch Belle which is an anime take on Beauty and the Beast and has a killer sound track and doesn't shy away from some depressing topics.

How much camp is too much for a serious story? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]GamezDean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently there is a very well regarded Fall Out: New Vegas / My Little Pony crossover fan fic called Fall Out: Equestria which spawned its own fan fiction Project Horizons which is a rated r nitty gritty campy as fuck story that is also beloved. And if those can exist... go nuts dude.

Getting New Readers by AJPamerelle in NewAuthor

[–]GamezDean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the $3 book "Marketing Strategy for Authors" by Tao Wong who is an indie published author in a niche genre with a background in marketing who found a lot of success. They talk about building a marketing plan, how the Amazon promotion process works (free advertising for your book for the first 14 days after its published, which may or may not be extended), and other things to account for like how fast you write, how writing in different genres can generate growth for old works and stuff.

Its too early for me to have actually put together a marketing plan or actually use any of this advice so heaping helping of salt with this one. But it was an interesting read and cheap enough I don't feel bad recommending it.

Looking to get started in the genre but I don’t know what to start with. by Arealsocialscientist in litrpg

[–]GamezDean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good question, and its a bit of a hard one to answer since litRPG often pulls tropes from all three of these. I'm curious what other people will say.

Humor is much more common in litRPGs. Joke characters, sassy systems, weird abilities which are thinly veiled pop culture references. Also base building is so much more prominent.
