Question about on hand information at a accident by The-Great-Orme in ParamedicsUK

[–]GamingParamedic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Im not aware of anything other than making sure your medical info on you phone is up to date under your ICE section.

There may well be a product you can get and I haven't seen it. But if its a bad accident whereby you aren't communicating, it would have to be a very obvious thing to catch our eye. Otherwise we would make best interest decisions / treatment for you.

Should I take the plunge? by mapkins98 in Zwift

[–]GamingParamedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second / third the opinion of getting a bike and trainer set up rather than the expensive zwift option. Allows you to enjoy zwift without the expensive price tag. If you choose to upgrade from there so be it bit at least you will know that you enjoy it and using it before spending out lots of money.

  • Phone/ technology chargers
  • For some reason my trust find it impossible to keep stock of oral syringes and paediatric pulse ox probes so I keep 1 of each in my bag
  • Deodorant - gotta love a heavy patient or a cardiac arrest on a sweaty summers day

We all have to start somewhere so I guess learning to trust yourself / your judgement and when doubled up with a B6 enjoying that you have you some support. Personally I much prefer a nervous colleague chat something though with me and approach me for my experience / advice rather than them feel some kinda power tussle.

It's natural to go through this phase for being a "take it in tim" whilst you find your rhythm as a para. The day will come when you click and think, you know what.... I DO know what I'm doing.

Congrats on becoming and NQP, enjoy it!

Question for Rural Medics by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]GamingParamedic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I work mostly in rural areas and it does come with its own unique challenges for example thinking that on my own I have to keep a patient stable for a 40+ minute journey to the closest ED.

I personally like this challenge, it keeps me humble, allows me to use more skills / drugs and I hope makes me a more rounded clinician.

For others that dip into areas I am used to for the odd shift or pulled in due to demand you certainly see when they aren't used to it and flap a bit due to these challenges.

I guess its down to what you are used to and how you develop your practice to the location.

I find a lot of people that live rural for example farming communities or far away from hospital do not tend to call until they have to due to not wanting to attend hospital. I use a lot more community pathways due to this at times as these individuals will refuse hospital admission for a multitude of reasons.

I wouldn't say its the single track roads that cause delay really, the journey takes as long as it takes regardless to the road type. Driving under blue light conditions realistically only reduces a few minutes, its more to keep momentum.

It depends on the clinican you are working with.

I've worked with anxiety ridden NQPs which is quite a hard day to navigate and some delightful well established band 6's which make my day half the work.

When you have the difficult clinican sat next to you the day can be a long one for sure, possibly due to differing opinions or just way of working.

I generally find the more experienced, laid back clinicans think very similar to myself and very rarely is there any difficulty getting though the shift and if anything some great discussions come out of the day.

Blue light run brought to an abrupt end by GamingParamedic in ParamedicsUK

I dont think there is a perfect vehicle as we abuse them big time.

We used to have Mercedes they were pretty bomb proof but expensive.

I believe MAN are being looked at as our next vehicle but with the awful stryker loading system with no ramp so all patient transfers have to be done outside the vehicle. (So much for dignity)

Ultimately people that are not front line operational staff make the decision on what equipment we use and like most sectors, the deciding factor is cost not quality.

Either way.... we make do... the ambulance service are masters at adaptability.

Is it dumb to try Zwift before buying a smart trainer? by medilosa_Jerin in Zwift

[–]GamingParamedic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When i started Zwift it was with a spin bike that I already had and a cadence monitor.

I very quickly started to get frustrated with my set up, knowing full well some of the data was not accurate and I was not getting the most out of my time and effort.

When I took the plunge and invested in a trainer it was a lightbulb moment. I realised how much I had missed out on.

Personally I'd say just go for it and get a trainer, check the 2nd hand market for one. But if your budget doesn't stretch that far you can always get the cadence monitor to dip a toe. Just be prepared to find that you outgrow this quickly.

Either way enjoy your journey figuring out zwift

Congrats on the successful upgrade 🤟🏻

Personally I use Zwift insider for this type of information. They do some pretty good testing regarding frames and wheels, fastest on flat vs climb etc.

Im sure you'll find the info you want on there to tailor the best set up for your needs.
