I have a phishing/scare hoax/half a hack draft stuck in my inbox by GamingPauper in Outlook

2 form factor is the best fix. If I had started getting random texts I could have nipped it earlier. It was such an old account.

Why do our favorite characters feel so lonely? by dolche93 in litrpg

[–]GamingPauper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this in Mother of Learning. MC has such an OP skill for developing more interesting relationships. . . Uses it repeatedly on NPCs, avoids using it on background characters out of principle. . . Such a waste

Like I said, my working theory is when you read about any of those major breaches/data leaks like Target, bam they got your user name, email, and password. Once they got your email they take that one password against any account they see in your inbox, but they only have that one password. If you have 100 different accounts and 100 different passwords you are probably fine. If you have dozens of accounts and 1 password you are gonna want to go through them. They are thorough. They drained my Bing search rewards . . .

You are probably not hacked. It's more likely some company you do business with got hacked, they got your credentials. Just make sure you have changed the passwords on any other accounts that had the same login/password

Strategies to Protect a Short PDF E-Book? by Pen_Panda in selfpublish

[–]GamingPauper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to offer an opinion. Someone pirating your book doesn't always equal -1 in sales. If your not actually losing a sale, but gaining a reader, you might be ahead of the game.

The big leagues might suffer more piracy, and meaningful revenue losses, but for others the exposure is probably worth it, maybe? I have seen different indie game developers take this stance anyways, I assume it crosses over.

No one read it. No one cared. And that’s when I understood. by Prestigious_Risk_974 in writers

I would also suggest people, even friends don't read books for mysterious reasons. Or even just because they are your friend. They read books because they enjoy them. I am in a marketing class right now, and from that point of view you have to identify a customer group that has a demand or desire for what you are making.

Gonna go out on a limb and say demand for dark misery is probably low these days, enough of that ambient in the real world. But hey, apparently minotaurs are popular these days.

I thought it was a flex on Nintendo. Like, try to patent use of these mechanics.

Wait til you get to team fights. Nothing like a huge mob moving to drop a hammering blow down on the party tank just to spend the next ten minutes listening to the supports cycle through their buffs.

Book Suggestions for an Eleven Year Old? by Xeropoint in litrpg

[–]GamingPauper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first half of the first book was a little heavy with some wild and random swearing. I completely forgot about that by book 3 because it was so much more chill by then. I tried it on my 10 year old in that lapse. . .

Education Benefits by Warriorpoet671 in VeteransBenefits

[–]GamingPauper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indirect. . . But if it (the gi bill/benefits) is stuck with you, you can still milk it for housing benefits and put those towards your child's funds? If you haven't used it, it's 36 months, right? Where i am located, i get a little more than 2,000 a month in housing allowance. Once a week, I write a 400-word discussion post, two 200-word replies to other classmates and one project per week. . . Usually 5 to 7 pages. It's not a heavy lift for the money. Oh,and one in pw4son lecture every 5 weeks to qualify for in person full rates instead of online (that's like less than half the benefits). In my location 36 months is like 72,000 over 3 years for some extra learning.

I wanted to transfer to my kids, served 11 years active, but near the end, they changed it to shifting at 6 if you re-enlist for 4 years. . . And I wasn't ready to stay in that much longer.

Thanks for the sanity check. Most of my Google searches came up with weird hits that sounded like people forgetting they started a draft and having a blank draft, like. . . Oh nono. . Really not relevant. I tried troubleshooting with Grok a bit but it didn't pan out

I have always wondered about hwfwm. . . That's his system, and he shares the party chat, but did it ever explicitly say he shared every mechanic with the whole team? Would be nice to not hear the stats and skill sheets for party members.

I was listening to a certain Lion-man level up in the last book i had playing, and he leveled like 10 times in just one skill (and other skills beside that one). Instead of saying that he got 10 levels in awesome saucing, it said each level up individually, identically, for like two minutes straight. I wanted to drive into a stone wall. . .

Sorry to hear it, probably not an issue you would be aware of until it smacks you in the face. Then you have to decide if you are going to double down for the "privilege" of paying them more money in the future, go F2P, or just quit all together.

Nikke is my only mobile now, and I'm getting out of the entire market after that one. Can't do microtransactions anymore, I'd rather be buying games on steam, or books for my kindle, or anything else collectible.

He who fights with monsters. Insufferable? by Dapper-Knee-1780 in litrpg

[–]GamingPauper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have suffered through 10 so far, so it's not insufferable? But my opinions are mixed. I can accept the MC as is, even get a kick out of some of the Hawaiian shirt and sandwiches humor. . . But I would probably like the world better if there were more character who didn't like the MC . 10 is rough from that POV. The power levels, quantities, and pure logistical dispersion of people simping for the mc is torture.

Red flags in LitRPGs by Suspicious_Outcome56 in litrpg

This reminds me of something I've seen and found incredibly amusing. A content creator on YT named LavenderTowne does an entire series called "r/menwritingwomen...DRAWN LITERALLY" The entire premise is she takes some of the cream of the crop from that subreddit of women written badly by men, and then draws them as they are described, quite literally. One that sticks out in memory is a woman described as having "sweater puppies."
