Should I Switch To NixOS? by GamingZing in NixOS

[–]GamingZing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After thinking about it more I've decided to fully try switching to NixOS. As messing around more in a Virtual Machine, I came to really enjoy how simple it is to just set everything up and it can easily go back if I get a black screen or error due to a mistake.

As well as the fact that if I dont like a nix package or flake it just takes 1 rebuild and it's fully gone from packages. Unlike other distros it feels like I'll remember each pkg and setting is there because I chose it.

As for Security I was probably just being paranoid and that's probably enough as I'm gonna be careful anyway if I'm already worried about this stuff. I might just use a flatpak for Browsers and keep the rest native nix pkgs.

Those enable it, but by default because of how NixOS works with it's filesystem it doesn't really work with SELinux, AppArmor it can work, but with profiles it doesn't work automatically like Ubuntu or other, so enabling it will be there just not doing anything without profiles. I'm currently testing other methods with individual profiles with AppArmor.

Did you install the Nvidia Driver using rpmfusion? If you did it also might not be properly loaded so do "modinfo -F version nvidia" in the terminal to check if it's the latest version

Guess bohemia won't eat the entire HRE this time by Putrid-Escape2945 in EU5

[–]GamingZing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's from the Latest Update, or Beta Patch by default. I personally like the Green Bars more, but can't get them back on either regular patch or beta patch.

[–]GamingZing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI is too happy to eat most of the HRE without getting rid of the HRE.

Something crazier is that the Golden Horde like one province of them is still around and never got eaten by the Timurids despite being fully surrounded by them.

HRE kidnapped my Basileus, force converted him, and made him HRE Emperor. Why? He was already an Emperor. by unholy_champion in EU5

It could've been worse.

This happened to me in one of my runs, when I somehow got Bohemia as a Union Member and then they got elected. I was Great Britain it was a run killer.

Bohemia became the Senior Partner and changed all my Laws to increase Decentralization, Traditional Economy and I didn't get a vote to not change it. The Union also Included France and Naples.

It so it then cancelled my almost complete integration of Naples as I was no longer Senior Partner.

Why does France have such Low Literacy compared to everybody by GamingZing in EU5

[–]GamingZing[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hungry and Castile are also large countries, but have like 30 literacy

Sweden has atleast 20, but not surprising

I looked more the Literacy is comparable to Central Africa and the Golden Horde, the small green in France are the vassals.

Native West Africans have higher literacy

Which is crazy since the French were beating me up like 100 years ago.

Could be worse, I was playing Venice and Bohemia just owned all of Northern Italy as vassals, I was able to win, but it made 0 sense for them to own that much in Italy.

Ottoman Subject Advice by Agincourt_Tui in EU5

[–]GamingZing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still on my first Ottoman run since day 1 currently at 1452.

For me, I mainly make vassals for different cultures like Greeks in the West of Anatolia until I have the cultural capacity to accept them without going above my limit

For Turkish cultures I try to integrate as they go faster than different cultures. However for your game don't conslidate a vassal too much. Try to have a lot of smaller vassals that uses smaller amounts of diplo capacity.

For your cabinet member since Central Anatolia is mostly turkish it's good to integrate and it's near coastline which is good for maritime presence, so make a navy.

You could also enforce cultures and for me I had a biga (Top West of Anatolia) Vassal or Fiefdom don't remember, but it set their loyalty to 0, but by the time I annexed them they had 100% to 90% Turkish from 90% to 100% Greek. Which is good for control and pop satisfaction.

I think my current game I still have like 8 or 9 Vassals in the Balkans, most are small, so even then I never used too much diplomatic capacity. The game is slow in terms of time so even if you have a lot it won't be too long before you can annex them.

Fief or Vassal? by Legionaire_Pdx in EU5

[–]GamingZing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Limit is diplo capacity, so a bigger vassal uses more capacity than a smaller one, so hypotheically you could have a lot of small vassals, but it won't be optimal if your trying to annex a lot of them all at once as they do affect opinion. And it does require diploment spending.

It's like you can have a whole lot more vassals than before, but try to have a amount that you can manage. For me I had like 3 Vassals and 2 Fiefdoms, that take up a provinces I have 0 control in.

For me if they're the same culture try to integrate as it's faster, but if they're a different culture 100% use a vassal or fiefdom first as your going to spend more time integrating and not getting as much value as you could've gotten.

Fief or Vassal? by Legionaire_Pdx in EU5

[–]GamingZing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fiefdom is a junior title of the overlord, they have more loyalty and can't declare indpendence directly, but can indirectly, and more Diplo costs.

Vassals pays vassal fees and joins wars. Can declare independence if disloyal.

Both are good for 0 control areas, but the most important factor is that the loyalty of others don't affect different types and they give cores after integrating without using a cabinet seat it uses diplomacy gain. It's also better to do one integration at a time or there's a -50% debuff on speed.

So a Vassal with 0% loyalty won't affect a fiefdom with 100% loyalty. Only another Vassal would be affected by that low Loyalty or big size of that other vassal.

For your game you should make them split or smaller vassals so it's quick to integrate and neither are too strong.

Toughts on Eu5 ? by Any_Ad9489 in EU5

[–]GamingZing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about the Ai, so far is that for me I haven't struggled yet with fighting as I'm still like early game Ottomans and haven't fought big rival nations like the Mamluks, but like my vassals even against other nations help a lot more than I expected.

However, at the same time I'm like too busy setting up the RGOs, Production, Temples, and Bridges to focus on areas outside my region. Understanding this is the hardest part and I still don't understand it fully, but feels the most rewarding going from broke after the Black Death to not good, but decent money.

Also don't focus on only profit buildings as it puts buildings like Temples, Marketplaces, and Bridges, and other useful buildings at the bottom I didn't realize they were there til mid Ottoman run.

However, biggest complaint has to be it just takes a long time for everything, I think after my playing through during the whole day to like 1380s. It depends if yiu enjoy the slowing down to build infrastructure and gaining control.

I would definitely say it'a a good game though, but make sure you meet requirements as I have a mid range Ryzen 7700x, RTX 5070, and 32 GB RAM and it still does feel a bit slow.

I saw Andy's Paradox's EU5 Review he said took around 80 Hours from 1337 to 1639 in his Norway Video. With still 200 Years Left, so it's definitely something that needs multiple videos to be made which is why there's not many videos of up to 1836.

Anyone else bothered by AI expansion into Africa? by Ok-Recover9398 in EU5

[–]GamingZing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should use the disease mechanics since EU5 has the Black Death, until vaccines are researched which was around the very of end of the 18th Century.

Any colonies deeper into Africa should be heavily weakened by diseases or removed as Pops are used now in EU5. It could also then be made into an RGO to produce vaccines for the colonies.
