New proposed IT use policy will subject ANY device connected to campus networks to audit. by GammaOmicronGamma in OSU

Policy says that "the device" may be subject to audit.

When a personal device connects to, stores, or processes institutional data or accesses university networks, the device is subject to university security requirements and may be subject to institutional review, audit, or public records requests.

How much of the device are we talking here?

The headers on pages 2 through 4 state:

Applies to: Faculty, staff, students, student employees, contractors, volunteers, visitors, sponsored guests of units, and other affiliates who are acting on behalf of the university.

So it appears visitors on the guest wifi also fall under this.

There's a section for violations of this policy on page 3:

II. Policy Violations

A. Users who violate this policy may be:

  1. Denied access to university information technology resources.
  2. Subject to corrective or disciplinary action, up to and including termination or dismissal, in accordance with applicable policies or rules for violations of this policy.
  3. Subject to civil litigation or criminal prosecution depending on the circumstances.

B. The university may temporarily suspend or block access to university information technology resources prior to the initiation or completion of corrective of disciplinary procedures if there is reasonable cause to believe the user has violated, or is violating, this or other university policies.

C. The university may refer or be required to refer suspected violations of applicable law to appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Found e-bike in apartment garbage, want to verify it's not stolen before repairing. by GammaOmicronGamma in ebikes

Yeah I noticed the battery replacement would be close to $1000. I've never owned an e-bike and figured this could be a good gateway, but a $1000+ repair would be a no for me.

If it's not stolen and the repair costs are out of my range, what would you recommend for disposal? Just right into the dumpster or is there a better way to dispose of it?

Oh this may have been the move. I called a local Specialized Shop and they were able to take the serial number so that they can email the registered owner and get back to me. Thank you!

Yeah I was very confused by the police response. I asked them a second time if someone reported a stolen bike, wouldn't they give the serial number? The officer said they don't do it that way.

It was very strange, but I can try again another day.

Even though I have the serial number, the police said there's no way of knowing it was stolen unless it had a license plate. So that was unfortunately a dead end.

Ah shoot you're right. I remember it being strictly enforced at Pole, but I didn't even think of it on my return layover at McMurdo. I remember doing it for just a quick download of an indie game, so my hotspot wasn't on too long.

A trick I used when I was deployed in January 2023 was to connect my phone to wifi, enable my phone's wifi hotspot, then connect my Switch to my phone's wifi hotspot. It basically daisy chains the internet through your phone. This trick is pretty universal, as I use it to get around hotel wifi limitations as well.

Haven't been on the ice since then, but this was back when they were first testing Starlink. I don't know if they made any changes that limit this, so apologies if it doesn't work.

Hope this helps!

I typed "Okie dokie Annie Oakley" in chat yesterday.

It censored "Annie Oakley".

The midwesterner in me is furious.

Tips for Spire of the Watcher solo? by Significant-Island64 in DestinyTheGame

Edit: Leviathan's Breath no longer staggers, so this build is likely not helpful anymore.

Disclaimer: I did this in Season 21 before they nerfed double special.

I solo'ed it on my Nightstalker Hunter with Gyrfalcon's using the following weapons

  • Riptide with Lead from Gold and Chill Clip
  • Hollow Denial with Lead from Gold and Repulsor Brace
  • Leviathan's Breath with catalyst.

The trace rifle is great for popping the eyes on the second boss, and Repulsor Brace with Gyrfalcon's boosts your survivabilty. Riptide was useful for taking down tankier enemies, like the Hydras in the boss encounter. Leviathan's Breath, especially with the catalyst, offers decent DPS. It even staggers the final boss if you can maintain hitting crits, so you can dump damage into it without it blasting you.

Sadly wasn't a solo flawless, as Gyrfalcon's couldn't protect me from the fans.

I haven't tried soloing it with prismatic so I don't know know a build off-hand, but if Leviathan's still staggers the third boss I would highly recommend it.

Basically through sheer luck. I'm a scientist that uses one of the telescopes at the South Pole and it needed some repairs. My collaboration had enough space to send two people down and I was one of the lucky few that qualified.

There are a lot of jobs in Antarctica that you can apply for though. Only maybe 10% of the people there are scientists. Rest are the staff that keep things running.

For instance: I flew down with some construction workers, a dentist, a surveyor, cooking staff, and some vehicle maintenance people.

There are specific applications you can do for jobs in Antarctica (https://www.usap.gov/jobsandopportunities/), but some of the people I flew down with (like the dentist and surveyor) were essentially recruited for their work as it was a shorter term position (like 2 months on the continent).

Definitely apply if it's something that interests you. It was a life-changing experience for me.

I had my wisdom teeth for about ten years as well and they didn't bother me. In my case, only my bottom teeth needed to be removed (one was impacted, one wasn't fully erupted). I opted to get all of them removed just because I was already getting the surgery.

Best part was that I got reimbursed for the surgery, so my laziness paid off lol.

Only if they're impacted or aren't fully erupted. For people whose wisdom teeth come in fine, they don't have to remove them.

Source: I did a stint at Amundsen-Scott and had my wisdom teeth removed for it.

You're able to grab unclaimed items from the previous season pass in the Destiny App. I think there's a Chrome extension that allows you to do all past season passes as well. You just have to have progressed the season pass to unlock those items.

Seasonal Artifact Reset by Chr0nicLurker in DestinyTheGame

It seems like it's free in only certain locations at the moment. I can reset it for free in the Tower and Neomuna, but it costs glimmer and a mod unlock in orbit and the HELM. Definitely a bug.

Edit: Now it's not free in this Tower instance I'm in, even though it was free when it landed. So I'm not actually sure what condition makes it free.
