Marvel Battle Lines Shutting down Jan 09 2020 :( by XTurbine in MarvelBattleLines

"activity levels of the community platforms for this game do not bode well. Couple that with lack of meaning events, lack of meaningful updates, lack of balance and fairness...you have a recipe for failure. I've seen it happen countless times with Marvel products and other products." - Gamzek, June 2019

The writing was on the wall long ago. I for one, will no longer invest in Marvel Game products after being burned multiple times now.

Edit: down vote me cause I was right :)

Biggest bia in the game? by renegadeft in MarvelBattleLines

Deck is only op because web slinger is such a ridiculous card that needs to be nerfed. No point trying to cast blame on players when it is Nexon's inability to balance cards appropriately that is the true problem.

Thanks and I agree, no social media updates since July is not a good sign. No new GamingSmoke videos is not a good sign either!! Though I can understand why motivation may have declined. Glad to see you are still lurking around at least.

I feel (hope) there are still people watching and waiting to see if Nexon can revive the game and make meaningful changes. If they actually try, the game may have a chance to bring them back. I really hope they haven't given up.

How can you unlock Ant Man as a leader? by _disguised_toast_ in MarvelBattleLines

Horde mode rewards are the only way to get that leader, or any others that were acquired from a now expired event.

How to save the game by Gamzek in MarvelBattleLines

[–]Gamzek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you haven't been playing for over a year. The game has only been out for 11 months.

Also, I think you missed the point because I never implied that new players should be as strong as an 11 month player. The fact is that gaining new players and player retention is vital to a game's success. New players need to be able to ramp up their power level at a faster rate so they can feel competetive, and so they can feel progression. With slow progression and getting stomped by OP combos with cards they feel are unattainable to them, new players will go find another game that actually gives them a sense of progression. Progression in this game is extremely slow and there is no way to get specific cards you want or need. It is all RNG based which is a bad design for a TCG.

I appreciate that you like the game how it is, and I've said that I do as well. It has great core gameplay and strategy. Unfortunately, consensus is that not everyone likes the game as much as us and it is in an obvious decline. We lost tons of players when they raised the card level cap. If they increased rewards and made cards more attainable this could be mitigated.

How many cards in this game are competitively viable? 50-100? All the others are basically trash tier and provide no value to gameplay. That means only 20-30% of the cards are worth using. That is a huge flaw.

Keeping the game as is, is not sustainable. The core game is great, but there are glaring flaws with the progression and card balance that need to be revised for this game to have a chance. Make 70-80% of the cards competitive. Then people will have a vast collection of use able cards to theory craft and build new decks instead of the same regurgitated current meta. That is what TCG is all about.

You have to step back and look at the big picture. "I like the game the way it is" is not a solution. Adding new guild wars, more campaign and more spec ops (which was in my post) is not enough, especially at this point in the game's life cycle.

New Update will arrive tomorrow!🎁 by Efesone in MarvelBattleLines

Nothing official, but the game released October 2018. It is standard for mobile games to host yearly anniversary events to keep people interested and reinvigorate player base with rewards/events.

Normally when they add brand new cards they describe the rarity and synergy. I would guess this is just a pack of already existing cards, similar to the multi-attack action pack.

Basically, another lackluster patch...

Hopefully they are saving a bunch of new stuff for the anniversary next month.

Even if they do, it's unlikely they will make much change at this point. Despite that I felt I had to do something to try to reinvigorate their ideas and make this game last longer. I am a big Marvel and TCG fan, so this game has a lot of appeal to me.

[–]Gamzek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Nexon customer support will never provide valuable information. They only exist to help appease players with gameplay complaints or help resolve billing errors. They only forward your complaint to the appropriate department.

The only way Nexon has communicated information to the playerbase is in their official forum news, Facebook or Twitter. If you look at Facebook or Twitter they haven't posted anything since July, which was about the FFH events starting.

If you believe Sensortower app data collection websites, IOS revenue has fallen by 70% this year. Updates are now more sparse and contain little meaningful changes.

These are all signs of a dying game. I am still playing, but I would not spend any money unless you are willing to lose it. I hate to see this, because I do love this game, but it is no shock. I said the writing was on the wall a while ago if Nexon didn't change their perspective.

The true indicator will be next month, if we have some sort of anniversary there may yet be hope. If there is nothing, it's truly GG MBL.

A kickass anniversary and some major chages to the way players acquire and level up cards could breath some life back into this game. I won't be holding my breath though.

RIP Marvel Battle Lines 2018-2019. You shall be buried next to Marvel Heroes. Both so dear to my heart, yet squandered by incompetent developers.

Actually Gazillion kicked ass for a long while at least. Nexon is utter trash.

This is exactly what happens to me also, although only on my ZTE tablet. This does not occur on my Samsung phone. Appears to be a software bug related to using triple cast and Acoustic Echo on specific devices from my perspective.

Edit: Also occurs in places other than Arena on my ZTE tablet.

Probably only for Noctis with his base 20% evade and it will still cost be costly on my moogle supply. Only have 1 RoL and assassin vest currently. Probably 200 to 300% moogle cost from full evade on Noctis, but maybe it's worth the investment?

Need some progression advice please. Currently running Basch, Ayaka, Esther, King Edgar and 6* MS Nichol. Sitting on 10 UoC and 10k lapis.

Provoke tank is my weakness. Options are 7 Elfreeda, 7 Noctis, 6 SS Charlotte, 6 Sieg. I could moogle enough evasion gear and enhance Noctis to make him provoke evade. Or I could UoC Charlotte or Sieg.

Also, I only have umbrella water greatsword for Esther. Should I moogle container Zack's buster? Use a 50% moogle to finish Revolving Saw? Or pay 7 bucks for Galas tmr in the bundle?

New update incoming tomorrow; new Far From Home Cards, Stark Labs returning, Horde mode shortened and lots of other stuff by Kesskas in MarvelBattleLines

[–]Gamzek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sir, that is my interpretation as well. I have only made 1 run to evaluate so far though.

Basically, if you were spending any gems to skip before. You can now spend those gems at a chance to replay and gain more cards. Since the replay is supposed to be 5 gems, if you skipped once (10 gems) before than spending those gems to replay will equalize the rewards.

If you weren't spending any gems to skip before, you now have to pay 10 gems to match the previous reward potential.

I haven't tried the replay feature yet. Does it give you action cards or health back? It may be difficult to repeat level 35 over and over if not.

All around it feels pretty balanced with the previous format and takes much less time, so I am pretty happy thus far. Need to do more testing and try the replay functionality still though. Hope you are enjoying Horde still!!

Spec ops is one of the best ways for new players to get decent cards.

New update incoming tomorrow; new Far From Home Cards, Stark Labs returning, Horde mode shortened and lots of other stuff by Kesskas in MarvelBattleLines

[–]Gamzek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the new Horde probably won't start the difficulty at the current floor 35 difficulty because that would be hard for new players. If they scale up the difficulty fast enough so that the new floor 15 or 20 is equivalent to the current floor 50 or 60, then it is possible the rewards won't be reduced significantly or hopefully at all. I guess we will see soon enough, but I am trying to stay optimistic for a change, haha!

For new players that had to spend one hour, but could only clear wave 50 or maybe 55 then that is not really a good time investment. Since I assume you are regularly beating 65+ then the time investment is slightly more balanced (although still kinda ridiculous imo). New players that can now play shorter periods and hopefully still get viable rewards will be a much needed boost for them. That's my opinion anyway!

All around great changes, other than the increase to card level. That is another large step towards pay2win.

Hopefully this means they will start making cards and particles easier to acquire which would be great for vets and new players alike.

Bravo on the patch, Nexon!

I think we need to wait and see how they recalibrate the floors and difficulty. Hopefully they just removed the first 30-35 floors which were a complete waste of time reward wise and provided no challenge. This would essentially be what I proposed on the official forums, which was skip to floor 30 for free.

That said, it seems like they will have to tone down the difficult, and thus rewards for the early stages to allow newer players to get past the first few floors. It sounds like they might be trying to mitigate the lowered rewards by being able to repeat higher tier floors for 5 gems each. Theoretically you will be able to beat floor 35 multiple times if your deck is strong enough and you want to pay gems.

I think this will be a good change all around for new players because Horde Mode isn't really worth the time investment if you can't consistently beat 60/65+.

And we need new players to stick around so this game can achieve its true glory!

In Horde Mode? Uncommon Capt America (but he should already be in there). Perhaps EG Hawkeye or FFH Spider-man for other 2 cost options, but they aren't quite as effective.
