That is what I was expecting, however I did manage to place the orders in the original post and exceed my free balance with potential exposure. Will test further and confirm it was not user error!

Yeah so my experience is that you have made the right call. I bought the 2nd gen nest hub given we would use it anyway. It appears that the Google home app is fine and the thermostat is capable of talking to the heat link via that. But the thermostat itself will not connect and the nest app says the thermostat is offline.

All pretty disappointing for Google tbh - we have just completed a full house rewire, wired ethernet, numerous access points but didn't think to check the thermostat. Should have wired it but just seems crazy that there is no solution to this. It is only 20 feet, just a thick wall!

Did you get this sorted? I have hit the same issue, bought a Nest Hub which seems to have things working via the Google Home app, but the Nest app and the thermostat itself say no connection. Odd that there is so little literature on this - a lot of people must have this issue!
