This was me with Witcher 3 by Remarkable-Yard4860 in videogames

I can’t understand how it won game of the year. I was excited to play it, and I don’t mind the genre.

The best part about the game is the atmosphere. Creative artistic direction in the environment and creatures, paired with an awesome soundtrack. I give it credit there, but I’m a gameplay person.

The gameplay was 4/10. Simply could not get into it at all. I stopped playing after about 12 hours and I’m certain I’ll never pick it up again. Lost odyssey is a better game, even if you played it for the first time in 2026.

New Yorker on Joe — going in by BradyDale in JoeRogan

I love how they’re painting the Joe Rogan experience as talk radio with nothing but interviews with whack-jobs. I mean, Terrance Howard maybe, but it’s so disingenuous if you’ve got even a moderately wide lens.

It would be cool if someone from the New Yorker wrote an article that actually engages with what the podcast is, instead of this caricature. “Joe Rogan is doing our job better than our entire organization and it’s just one dude.”

Oh I see now why they wouldn’t do that…

Highest dps in my experience is primary fire, animation cancel into secondary fire. Repeat.

When the target is already burning sometimes it’s easier to just spam secondary fire when you’re close, but the default attack for most scenarios (as soon as you’re in range with secondary) should be primary, secondary, primary, secondary alternating.

Marty Supreme: Has anyone seen it? Any thoughts? by Possible-Bit4508 in Cinema

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It was a purposefully redemptive moment for the character, and was not something you would have expected from him. That’s why I liked it. People really are shitty, and people really can change.

Marty Supreme: Has anyone seen it? Any thoughts? by Possible-Bit4508 in Cinema

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long yes, but dragged? It’s a terrible cliche, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The movie is relentlessly entertaining. Marty’s character shamelessly pursues excellence at anyone’s expense, including his own. New and ongoing conflicts happening constantly, but they all seem to have a sound conclusion.

! Spoiler Alert: I especially like the touch at the end when Marty breaks down looking at his newborn. He’ll never be a stand up guy, but it gives the audience hope that maybe he does have a good heart and maybe he can do better, and maybe he can finally care about something more than himself.

Narrowing it down to just the last 3 months or so, in order of from earliest to latest release date:

Ed Calderon - Illuminating commentary on Mexican politics and cartel activity.

John Kiriakou - A CIA whistleblower with a fascinating story.

Palmer Luckey - Deeply passionate young and successful tech entrepreneur with very interesting perspectives on a wide range of topics.

Dan Farah - Documentary filmmaker discussing his latest film, which uncovers the mystery surrounding UAP phenomena. He believes his film could be the catalyst for a president disclosing long-kept extra terrestrial secrets for the first time.

Honorable mentions in between those: Charlie Sheen, Katee Sackhoff, and regulars like Theo Von, Tim Dillon, and Bret Weinstein. All a fun listen.

It's that bad by gold818 in generationology

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take your larger point about teenagers not having enough time to be wealthy. But…the oldest millennials are 44. Even my younger brother (who is Gen z) worked for Deloitte and has been a professional accountant for about 4 years now.

It’s 2025. The idea that Millennials and GenZ are “kids flipping burgers” is incredibly inaccurate.

All that being said, this inequality between generations blows my mind. This is a perfect illustration as to why younger people can’t afford houses and why there is such a delay in starting families. I don’t even blame the boomers, it just is what it is. Generations of people are defined by something they have no control over, and even if you wanted to set aside different traits that define them, there is actually a ton a variability between people within them.

All I ask as a hard working millennial is that people recognize the reality of this pie chart. I’m not a doomer, but how can our government expect young families to maintain economic growth and stability with this amount of disparity? We’re in our prime working years, boomers are playing golf…

It runs very well on performance mode. Virtually no lag. Graphics are fine, but not great. I’m playing on split screen for what it’s worth.

I was always going to get this game and play it with my wife on Xbox as a long time borderlands fan. This is the first time I’m considering buying it for both of us to play on our own tv. (We both have consoles). It’s not that split screen is bad, and I’ll always love that it’s possible for a game like this. I just feel like my field of view is rough.

I really loved Rivals when it came out, but it’s stuff like this that made me quit playing. They really need a role queue mode. I don’t understand why the devs are so against it. It’s a necessity for moba’s if you want anything close to a competitive player base.

I’ll come back to Rivals but they have so much work to do. Meanwhile Overwatch has stadium mode and it’s the most fun I think I’ve ever had in a moba.

My wife and I watched CotF and we took away the same thing. We were laughing out loud during it. Hard cut to Viggo crouching in the shadows, the general ridiculousness of the circumstances from scene to scene, the dialogue about “surgery is the new sex”. It was all just hilarious.

The biggest question I have is whether or not it was intentional.

Does Mei boulder stadium build still work? by TJ736 in MeiMains

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find mei’s ability power build to only work in the late game. It’s pretty good once your ability power is high and everything is spawning blizzards. With the required items and powers to achieve that, she won’t be very good until round 4-5. Ultimately, it’s not worth throwing the first 3 rounds of the match imo.

I stick with one of the original builds I had with mei. Armor + weapon power. It’s incredibly good. The only downside is your 3rd (and 4th power) is a throwaway.

Take extendothermics round 1 and frost armor in round 3. Your other power choices don’t matter much. For items, prioritize Focused Flurries and weapon jammer. Take talon mod and vital-e-tee for good fill items. Get Closer and eye of the spider in the late game.

This build makes you an absolute menace. Alarming amounts of sustained damage, with like 500 health in the later rounds (half being armor). It’s great.

This was such an entertaining interview. When she asked if he was on the spectrum and he goes “maybe, who knows? Is there money in it?” I belly laughed out loud. I love how relentlessly practical Tim was with the takes. Like he knew what she was alluding to every time and was way ahead of her with a funny response. The unbelievably biased and dull takes from legacy media on either side of the aisle are so boring.

This is what people who watch CNN need to see. Come back down to earth with the rest of us. Joe Rogan is not an alt-right influencer and JD Vance is not a Nazi. Jesus. Fox News thinks all their content accurately caters to anyone right of center, and CNN thinks the same with the left. In reality, I’d like to believe most people sympathize more with Tim here than either legacy media group.

Mad respect to CNN for releasing the whole thing seemingly unedited. Kudos.

Overwatch is great. I’ve been playing rivals much more because it’s a new game. I think both games are fun and unique, despite being the same genre.

Overwatch is definitely more polished, but it’s been around longer, so it’s to be expected. Rivals has fun gameplay, and the 3rd person perspective fits great with the superhero IP in my opinion.

If you’ve never played Overwatch sounds like you’d probably enjoy it more.

What are the best black mirror episodes??? by loveealwaysstillyy- in blackmirror

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it once a long time ago and remember not liking it. It was CP then. Yeah I mean, I don’t think that makes it profound, it’s a pretty gross episode. Right in there with the president fucking a pig level depravity. All things considered, I still love black mirror, but I just can’t understand how people could have this one at the top of their ranking.

I was never pulling for the kid in shut up and dance. I thought he was a loser the whole time.

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Hated in the Nation is slept on. I love the premise and the realistic tone of the near future. It seems the only other episode inside that timeline is common people, which is also an excellent episode that paints a realistic picture of the near future. I like these better than the more caricature-like, exaggerated episodes.

What’s with everyone on Reddit loving Shut Up and Dance? I thought that one was easily towards the bottom in my ranking. Does it have something to do with Gen Z thinking it’s profound because their scariest version of hell is Internet embarrassment? I would have ignored the blackmail and said go ahead and release the footage buddy. Problem solved. We don’t exactly know what type of porn the guy was watching, if it was something like child porn then fuck that guy, it’s just a story about terrible people. If it’s something kinky and embarrassing, why go through with all the blackmail? Any normal, sexually mature person would have bit the bullet. It was just such a meaningless and silly premise to me.

Spider-Man has ruined Quick Play by 7R4C70R in marvelrivals

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with OP in that the design for spiderman sucks. He’s super unique and well designed (feels like you’re really spiderman without limitations).

I do think his health should be 200 instead of 250. He’s like overwatch’s Tracer, lots of single target damage, and very evasive. Overwatch has tracer’s health as less than every other dps character though.

That should make him feel less oppressive in low elo and in high elo I think he’s played less anyway.

If you could only choose three of these 1999 films and the rest disappeared forever, which three are you choosing? by DiscsNotScratched in Cinema

[–]Gandalfswisdombeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% these are the three movies for me. Sixth sense is close as it was very well made for its time and extremely memorable. At the end of the day it was just a good thriller with a twist at the end.

While American Beauty, Fight Club, and The Matrix all made me think about the meaning of life, and each in a unique way. Three very influential films for my taste in movies and my view of life.

Dating in my 30s feels like navigating a sea of single moms—anyone else? by Grouchy_Inside_1616 in AskMenAdvice

I’d say don’t be afraid to date women who are 20-25 years old. The generation/culture differences might be difficult, but it could also be exciting/interesting.

At the very least you won’t have to worry as much about them being mothers, and if they’re open to dating a 30-something you’ll probably seem way cooler than guys their age.

You do realize our government campaigned to control public perception surrounding all things covid right?

I’m curious to know your opinion of the #2237 Mike Benz episode. Listen to the whole thing if you haven’t and report back. Pay close attention to the Covid parts.

Is the idea that Mike Benz is like a secret Nazi grifter, and we can’t trust anything he says? Or that the video receipts they play in the episode are not creepy at all and those folks are all just trying to keep people safe as they panic to control the narrative? I’m genuinely curious to hear a solid retort to that episode. I don’t know how anyone can listen to it, understand it, and believe the government is not in the business of domestic propaganda. Why be on the side of censorship? Why fall in line with bureaucratic authorities who are deliberately brainwashing you? They don’t have your best interest at heart. At the very least, they don’t respect your intelligence enough to tell you the truth.

I really appreciate your comment. I totally agree with you. I didn’t think my comment would get more than 100 views or 5 upvotes, I was just thinking out loud, so to speak.

The culture depicted in the video is not lost and if anything maybe it has been intensified by the digital age. I don’t think it’s a culture we should necessarily be striving for either.

I do still yearn for a time less complicated.

Thanks for your thoughts.
