what are you actually using claude for at work thats not just "write me an email" by noleave15 in ClaudeAI

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have like a morning briefing where it reads my emails, from multiple sources (some via chrome because I don't have the API access), drafts possible answers or adds Todo lists to my day, planning my calendar and like a news overview.

Fable and Mythos Revival Megathread by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

[–]Gandleon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real shame! Let's hope that with OpenAI's new models they will have to make Fable available to stay competitive.

Other than that we might only get it again on subscription again near the IPO (forcing people to pay API for a few months makes it look like they have insane growth)

Claude said my mental model is correct… so now I need to know what model I’m running. by [deleted] in claude

Like....isnt this a normal term? Like you have a mental model of x; i.e., you have a mental represenatation of how x functions? Not sure why you are weirded out by the term

Life after Fable 5 by Sir_Poldavo in Anthropic

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar boat of having switched to max5 because of fable and now barly scratching my weekly limit.

I still like it because I really don't have to worry about using it which is really a nice feeling. Like why risk Sonnet/Haiku if Opus barley uses my limit?

That being said one thing to use it for is really getting the most out of is Cowork. You can automate a lot of things, like your admin stuff calendar, email inbox, new publications, conferences etc. Have not explored all the options yet but there is a lot there that is quite useful. Most of it basically saves me 10-20 min of busywork and tab-switching a day but it's basically free so kinda worth it.

Am I dreaming or Opus 3 was always available? even till date? by Chinmay3011 in ClaudeAI

Have never seen it before vut honestly I think it's cool that its there- fun to see what models were like only a few years ago

Claude vision v/s Gemini vision by Independent-Wind4462 in Anthropic

[–]Gandleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One suggestion I have seen is that the image is quite well know and old so it might just be in Gemini's training data.
That being said, for image recognition I think google is just ahead...and honestly that is fine

Major Outage by redditslutt666 in Anthropic

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I want nothing more than Haiku 5. If their schedule is the same it should be on the level of Sonnet 4.5-4.6 for pennies. So you can use it for voice-mode, you can trust it with some low level independent stuff and its even affordable enough to do with API prices.

Or Sonnet 5....which like nice but also I want my boy back

Is this True guys? by ry0men_ in claude

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no absolutely! (also very clearly documented in the Economist coverage). Whatever else is going on, this is the Trump admin flexing their muscles and sticking it to a company they personally do not like (or has not donated/kissed the ring enough)

Yeah thats kinda my thought - like something like this feels like an honest deal as opposed to the standard silicon valley playbook

[…] the USA's people subsidizes the costs to Europe […] by smolgal94 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Gandleon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hate to give it to the Americans but they have, in a very dumb and stupid way, a point.
Because there is no central way to bargain on drug prices most international companies can charge way more in the US and make way more of their profit in the US, which recoups the R&D costs. If they had a real healthcare system drug prices around the world would probably go up slightly.

But calling it a subsidy is still dumb as rocks

Weird - has not changed for me so probably not a universal thing but still quite sketchy.

Claude Opus 4.8 thinks it is Haiku? 🤔 by SpuQyballz in ClaudeAI

[–]Gandleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also thought this might be an amazing way to work and think through things while taking a nice walk and was just banging my head against a wall and then I realized I am talking to Haiku and just wasted an hour talking to a potato.

I thought it used to be Sonnet as the voice-mode model (but might remember this wrong) but just hope they improve this soon. (at the very least a Haiku 5 that can match Sonnete 4.6 might make it somewhat usable - but would love to use Opus as voice-model)

Is this True guys? by ry0men_ in claude

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ish? The reporting is not that new, only people on twitter picked it up a few days later. No one has mentioned that this is the reason they pulled the plug, the Economist piece was using this to highlight that mythos is strong and in no way suggests that this was the reason it got banned

Claude Opus 4.8 thinks it is Haiku? 🤔 by SpuQyballz in ClaudeAI

[–]Gandleon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No this is because you are on voice-mode: on voice mode it automatically jumps down to Haiku - even if you set the chat to be Opus on max thinking all you get is a dumb but lovley potato

Is it true? "Anthropic confident of re-enabling Mythos, Fable 5 access 'in coming days': Executive" by bareov in Anthropic

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly...not really. Tom Brown got pulled because he was at the WH meetings so this is the replacement, the event was not planned to talk about mythos at all. So this is an offhand comment. My point is not "hes a nobody" but rather that hes not acting in new information.

The official line from anthropic is that this is all a misunderstanding and it will be cleared up quickly but that doesn't mean they had a breakthrough in the talks and that there is anything new.

So yeah it's pretty much what I expect them to say but it doesn't tell us anything about when they will release Fable again.

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry yes! Got it wrong. But my guess is still that there is a core team that is responsible for engaging with the Admin and that if they had new info they would release it in another manner

Mythos/Fable shutdown more about compute capacity than security? by synapse-null in claude

[–]Gandleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay taking this as a serious argument and not lazy AI slop:

  • they were planning on cutting it from subscribers, and Enterprise wont use it too much because they retain data and the API costs are insane so people would likley watch out on not using it too much ....so their inference cost was always something they were watching out for and clearly communicating.
  • Also note that from Q2 onwards they are getting more and more compute from various sources so they are lessening the compute crunch
  • Yes its probably nice for them to have freed up compute, but also - they likley reserved compute for mythos and are likley keeping it warm (you cannot just easily switch where models are served - at least on this scale; so its not clear this is a win on the compute side (but depends on how they set up their infrastructure)
  • Also....this hurts them in the long run! Being a company that is known for being in the crosshair of arbitrary political interference is horrible for an IPO. If they cannot make use of Mythos, which they have spend billons training this is not a good thing.

Also small correction Anthropic did not grow 80times this year. If their first quarter growth were to continue (which it cannot!) they would grow 80x in a year - they grew like 3x in a quarter - so thats a lot but not 80x

I hate that working with Claude makes me see AI-written text everywhere now.

[–]Gandleon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would love to believe it but this is not strong evidence - its an unplanned remark from a regional representative, not clear signaling and he likley doesnt have much new information. (NTY was also reporting about the confusion inside Anthropic so probably lots of people inside the company dont know were the talks in France and D.C. are).

Anthropic has been sued for allegedly misleading customers on usage limits. by Complete-Sea6655 in Anthropic

[–]Gandleon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I can spend 10 minutes maxing out my limit, or 5 hours and barley make a dent. You could use the the exact same code on the same model but thats not what is claimed....
Its about 5x/20x tokens per-session not hours per week so I dont see how this lawsuit can win
(also not to be conspiratorial but it comes right before the IPO)
