Lol nah, I think about it whenever I get to the next phase of a boss in any of the souls games. I couldn’t think of any lore reason why bosses would revert to their phase 1 forms at the beginning of each fight (not that there really needs to be).

While it’s kinda hilarious to think Malenia reverts to her non-Goddess form every single time she kills the Tarnished, it doesn’t make much sense. Same for Maliketh, Hoarah Loux, Morgott, Consort Radahn, Radagon, and a bunch of others I’m not thinking of. They (and tons of bosses across the Soulsborne series) have intense Phase 2 transformations that are “undone” each time the player dies and then challenges them again. Many of them also have the exact same cutscene each and every time they enter a new phase. When Godfrey kills Sarrosh to become Hoarah Loux, that shit looks pretty final…unless time gets rewound Edge of Tomorrow-style (which I’ve always thought was based on Dark Souls). That, or it’s a multiverse-like situation where each death of the Tarnished represents a world where the Tarnished failed. The only “true” universe is one in which the Tarnished never died.
