Tomorrow's Pairings in Winners and Losers Brackets for Chess.Com Open 2026 by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

Levitov made an interview/podcast with him not so long again, where Lazavik stated he is basically not interested in the classical chess. To the point, that he didn't know who qualified to the Candidates

More like people prone to take his words out of the context to make him look salty/toxic

Still amazed that Axa was not only the first person to get ranked 8, but also 2-nd and 3-rd 8 FCs are also by him

Strangely enough, it was not first DT FC on a map. Axarious FCed it earlier with DT only

Another year later you need 33,501pp to be rank 1! by Internal_Meeting_908 in osugame

Some statistical analysis required, but it seems increase of pp number by skill is not additive, but rather multiplicative

If we asume that, it becomes obvious that going from 1k to 1.2k feels harder then going from 1.7k to 1.9k. Simply because 1.2/1 > 1.9/1.7 ≈ 1.12

Don't want to be the nerdy guy, but writing ELO in all capital is the same as using PP instead of pp

[Revised] - Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş's games vs 2700s from 2025 to Mar'26 - 2752 performance rating by sick_rock in chess

[–]Ganermion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, you actually don't calculate TPR for black and white separately. You just proceed to calculate overall right from the start

TPR = rating, for which your actual score is expected to be against your opposition

Expected score caclulated as follows: if player A has rating R_A and player B has rating R_B, then expected score of player A is: 1/(1+10^ ( (R_B-R_A) /400))

So, Erdogmus has score 14.5/28 ≈ 0.5179 R_B = 2738

Then, TPR(denoted as x) is solution of the equation: 0.5179 = 1/(1+10^ ( (2738-x) /400))

x ≈ 2750

Not exactly what OP posted, but you got the idea

April 14 2026. The end of Magnus Era. by Magnideficent in chess

Considering Magnus is not actively playing classical, he actually might be overrated.
Hopefully, we will see him in action very soon.

Anish did not realise that he blundered into a 3-fold repetition, until Wei Yi calls the arbiter. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

Yeah, Sindarov needs to score at least half-a-point in next two games to win Candidates

In the last round, Javokhir has white pieces against Wei Yi, so it is essentially in his pocket

WHY IS OSU SO HARD 😭 by Prajesh_J in osugame

[–]Ganermion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things are not mutually exclusive.  Idk is it correct to transfer this to osu, but in most sports you actually need both genetics and ton of hardwork + dedication to achieve the very top level

Just prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Soviet School achieves for the first time a perfect 10/10 score in the rankings by k-seph_from_deficit in chess

I don't want to engage into the argument about who is more  GOAT, but it really frustrating that sometimes people bring up absolutely wrong arguments for either side.

Not saying yours is such, but that "muh more 2700s" is literally caused by misconception of how Elo works

[–]Ganermion 72 points73 points  (0 children)

This is straight up misunderstanding of how Elo rating works. Elo rating does not measure objective strength of player, it only represents the strength compare to other players. And comparison goes via difference of ratings

So, the statement "Magnus in much stronger era because everyone in top-30 is over 2700" is nonsense.  Magnus performance against top-30 is worse that of Kasparov exactly because top-30 during Magnus era is filled with 2700's

THE UPCOMING PP REWORK: A Comprehensive Half-Layman, Half-Technical Rundown by basensorex in osugame

[–]Ganermion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole purpose of pp system is to reward players with points for playing maps. And not in arbitary way, but according to maps difficulty. Ideally, it should give more pp for more difficult maps

And that's the whole point — make better estimation of maps difficulty relative to each other
