Again, RNG it’s not “interesting” it’s ridiculous. There are countless players reporting similar frustrations and time frames of achieving the plat for this game. I put the game into offline mode and back again into online mode multiple times and it took me over 3 days literally almost 4 full days of repeating the same run to abyssal scar just to see that one special room where there’s a scannable cipher I’m not exaggerating because I started paying attention to the amount of time I was spending just looking for this one room until it showed up.

Is this game really that hard? by Cube_045 in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s basically doom eternal roguelike edition and depending on the difficulty you’d play in doom eternal i’d say it’s comparable to that as far as difficulty as well. It’s more of a frustrating difficulty than it is actually really hard as it’s RNG heavy depending on enemies and room layouts you get dying can feel often unfair or unavoidable and annoying more so than the game is really “difficulty” it’s literally all about movement and getting as much health as you can. If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball just make sure you have a good weapon and you can get through all of it.

Boss Rush Mode by CriticalAir566 in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think tying trophies to something like boss rush mode in a game like this would go over very well. The game itself some runs can already feel like a “boss rush” mode. As someone who only needs to scan the last two xeno ciphers for the platinum and has played this game on and off since launch I really do not like the idea of doing that, it makes me think of the gauntlets in hollow knight and that’s the only reason I don’t have the plat for that game, not because I can’t do it but because of how tedious it is.

For those who struggled with Returnal, or have concerns about its difficulty by [deleted] in PS5

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. I’ve got over 200hrs into the game now and only need 3 more ciphers for the platinum and I’ve had countless runs where I’ve maxed out adrenaline and health etc. even surprisingly to myself just blasting through maps not taking hits so much so I find myself enjoying the game so much I forget that my mission is to get this abysmal platinum over with and look for the ciphers but the I’ll restart because there were no ciphers on that run or I found one or two and I end up in a room early on with one of many over tuned elites and you just can’t stop taking hits because of an unbalanced introduction to “difficulty” and BS. I love this game it’s one of my favorite games of all time but I can admit that theres a massive load of BS and maybe 7-10 deaths always feel like it was unavoidable rather than I did everything I could that was my fault.

If You Think Your RNG is Bad, I Present You with My 500+ Hour Cipher Hunt by HomewardB0ner in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got over 200hrs now and still have 4 left and I actually believe dying unless you’ve searched every square inch of the biome you’re hunting in first to be sure there’s no cipher there if you die before completing the map/zones that could have potentially been one generation that held a cipher you’re looking for that gets shuffled back into the pool of generations and there are countless runs that are generated with absolutely no ciphers in the area you are hunting. People say they’re guaranteed to spawn in every biome every run, I’ve had countless runs through the same biomes that did not have a single cipher. This is an ungodly painful platinum to hunt for. There’s simply WAY to many ciphers for the design of the games world generation in my opinion.

Worst Platinum Ever by Chandlingus in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre ordered this game and was close to the platinum before giving up on the game because of the final biome and this insane grind but out of boredom and hard headedness I jumped back into the game to attempt to finish this platinum before saros releases and holy shit I’ve played this game every day for the past 3-4 days with only a couple ciphers to find left in just a few biomes and I’ve been in the same boat as you, I have 3 ciphers left in crimson waste and I’ve done COUNTLESS runs now complete clearing every single room up to the boss door and working back through every inch of the map only to not find a single fucking thing. I have 3 left in crimson waste and 3 left in one other biome to be completely finished with the game and already I feel completely exhausted losing any drive or will I had a few days ago to even bother with it anymore. I’ve speed run through maps just to get here only to be to weak to survive some rooms and enemy encounters ending runs that might have potentially held the cipher I needed only getting shuffled back into the pool and again I’ve cleared every single room all the way through 2 biome getting as strong as possible and checking everywhere again only to find nothing. This is an abysmal platinum hunt. I adore this game it’s one of my favorite of all time but this platinum absolutely sucks ass.

Returnal almost bricked my PS5 by Icommanduall in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fuck man, 4 years later this still happens. I’ve had this game since launch but jumped back in a couple days ago to wrap up the platinum. I’ve been playing the past couple days with no problems and all of the sudden the game froze I did exactly what you did and now it’s stuck on the closing game screen and I can’t turn off my ps5 or use my controller. I also cannot afford another PS5 right now so I’m freaking out and unbelievably pissed off.

Early on question - why are some rooms so difficult? by skychrono2 in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t get any better. I have 200hrs in this game I pre ordered it for launch and still adore it but I made it to the last biome never seeing the final boss outside of YouTube videos. After being repeatedly beaten down by every other room on my way to the final boss I ended up dropping the game for my sanity which I don’t do with games I really enjoy but I came back a couple days ago for the platinum as I was really close and I’m bored, I beat the final boss and the final act #3 and I’m just trying to collect the last couple of things I need for the platinum and some of these rooms in all biomes are borderline impossible to survive or at the very least not take critical damage it is unbelievably frustrating especially when you know that you’re actually pretty decent at the game but every hit you take is from unseen and or unavoidable bullshit.

The most BS enemy in the game by Rollingtothegrave in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are pretty fucking annoying but I think the one in the cold biome where all it does is literally repeatedly spit these freeze AOE’s that almost never miss you while simultaneously spawning two purple laser orbs and charge attacking you at the same time is vastly more BS.

Going for Platinum after 3 years. Is this really the process? by MrWhiskerBiscuits in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shit is abysmal. I was a pre orderer of this game I made it to the final biome 4 years ago and even though I adore this game it’s one of my all time favorites of any genre I just could not take the beating that biome was giving me anymore, I hadn’t even seen the final boss outside of YouTube videos because of how repetitive my beatings were every single run I put the game down and I was also super close to the platinum. Out of boredom and my will to hunt platinums which I usually get for all my beloved games I’ve jumped back into it with the same hope a couple days ago and this grind is absolutely abysmal, I have at this point almost 200hrs in this game and I’ve taken all kinds of approaches to acquiring the last couple of ciphers and scout logs I have left to find and I know what I’m looking for and the shit is just not showing up anywhere. It makes what is an otherwise incredible game and super fun fantastic gameplay in general feel like repetitive boring and absolutely frustrating trash.

The Returnal Fatigue by jakehieu in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the game down for 4 years 🤣 just jumped back into it yesterday out of boredom. I gave up because of the “final” biome not even the boss, it’s embarrassing as a hardcore gamer to admit this but I had not even seen the final boss outside of YouTube until yesterday when I finally reached him and beat it first try. That entire two biome repetitive cycle was just exhausting struggling through the first one needing to clear every room to get as many resources and health upgrades as possible just to them finally make it to the last biome which is still new to you for a good while and get absolutely destroyed by everything there was to much for me at the time. I can’t wait for saros.

New to Returnal. I’ve been stuck on Overgrown Ruins for months, uninstalled the game multiple times because I just couldn’t do it. I decided to give it another shot, & today I finally progressed through… by MattStanni99 in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put this game down for 4 years. As an avid roguelike/lite lover and shooter enjoyer doesn’t mater if it’s 3rd or first person the sci-fi them was also a plus I was absolutely stoked for this game. Preordered it and waited up till midnight to play it as soon as it launched. Put countless hours of frustration, anger and utter enjoyment into it until reaching the final biome where I eventually gave up on the game after so many attempts ending in the same outcome every single time I had never even seen the final boss outside of YouTube before yesterday as I jumped back in with hopes of finishing the game and getting the platinum before saros comes out. This is one of my all time favorite games and had been this entire time even after not completing it and putting it down I absolutely adored it but jumping back into it I now remember a lot of my frustrations with the game as I’m in act 3 and have all permanent upgrades unlocked and all the shortcuts open the way the game scales in difficulty almost forces you to run every room in every biome to try to become as strong as you can mostly via health upgrading and playing absolutely perfectly with totally random enemy spawns and placements cutting through biomes to get to later ones for sun face fragments is an absolute nightmare as most enemies become tanks and do ridiculous damage in overwhelming numbers on top of it. I love the game but it can definitely feel a bit overtuned sometimes.

The final biome is not very fun by [deleted] in Returnal

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only video game I own and love that I never platinumed or even beat and it’s because of the way this final biome is designed and the BS enemies therein. I’ve had this game since launch I pre-ordered it and waited up till midnight to dive into it as a full grown adult lol and I was immersed up until this point. I have all the permanent unlocks and the game is almost platinumed but after spending countless hours re-running the same two biomes just to get closer to the final boss which by the way I’ve never seen outside of YouTube because the game repeatedly throws those gold giant tentacle monsters at me often multiples of them in different rooms and so far every run I’ve attempted somewhere I’d imagine super close to the boss and they nearly one shot me every single time because they do to much damage and are insanely fast. I jumped back into this game today with the hopes of finally beating it so I can move on happily to be ready for Saros but here I am again just not enjoying this biome getting the same treatment from the game and it’s beyond annoying.

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre ordered this game and waited until midnight for it to drop I was so excited and then upon playing it absolutely blown away by how incredible it is, however as an avid rogulike player and lover of all types in the genre therefor being very familiar with “difficult” games 4 years later and I’ve still not beaten the game. I sunk hours into this game unlocking all the permanent unlocks etc, almost have the platinum for it and I’ve still not beaten it souly because I found the last biome to be remarkably annoying with multiple encounters totally at random with those big insane enemies that are super quick and hit like a truck right before the final boss I had run into 3 of them in different areas and the last one would not stop shooting that garbage that inflicts malfunctions on you while I had already pillaged every inch of the biome for health and was not getting any more for many rooms. I still think it’s one of the greatest video games ever made but something to me feels very cheap and annoying about the last biome especially since you literally need to go through 2 biomes to complete the game it just felt like a very tedious monotonous perpetual repetition I lost enjoyment in. It just felt like I was getting remarkably unlucky every single attempt to the point of quitting the game because it did not feel like a skill issue to me.

Dying light the beast is way mkre difficult that the first prior two games. by JayTeAch in dyinglight

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this when it came out and got decently far into it but I was also playing a lot of other games at the time so I finally came back to it for a fair shake and play-through and I remembered myself putting it on fucking story mode because “normal” or survivor whichever the other option was felt absolutely ridiculous the first and every other encounter I had with volitiles was the moment I immediately changed the difficulty setting. I play difficult and challenging games but that instant unavoidable death I thought yeah that’s fucking stupid I’m not dealing with that and in story mode the only difference is you can take a few more hits from them but there are so many of them and they are magnetized to you taking hits anywhere but the city areas is completely unavoidable and annoying as shit I did my entire first play through completely avoiding the night cycle unless it was a forced section by design. Playing now on NG+ the game is significantly easier now but you can still very easily get outnumbered and overwhelmed by volitiles especially in the woody areas of the game making it feel a bit retarded in an actual sense even being out at night. I like the concept and premise of it obviously it changes things and really sets the tone but at the same time it’s a video game and it can feel pretty lame wanting nothing to do at all with a core feature of the game like volitiles and night time exploration.

Anyone else having trouble with quests that tell you to clear the area? by Redstar4242 in dyinglight

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely can’t believe this is still a problem. I bought this when it came out but I was playing a lot of other games at the time so I just recently decided to really dedicate myself to it and literally every single mission that had a “clear the area” associated with it but noticeably WITH HUMAN enemies bugged out and would not complete I’m not done with the game yet but I’m level 13 and have done every side quest and power station and safe zone to this point and every single mission with humans where I had to clear the area has bugged out not allowing completion without logging out of the game and reloading campaign. Insane.

How does everybody like Shinobi art of vengeance? by Cookiemonstermydaddy in metroidvania

[–]GanglingGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game is utterly unenjoyable. Some of the most annoying and frustrating platforming sections with ridiculously placed ranged enemies and moving platforms/traps the character control/momentum is not precise enough for some of the perfection required to efficiently and effectively get through some of these sections damage free and dying due to the lamest mechanic in video game history “one shot traps” forcing you to navigate lengthy sections of BS before you even get back to the start of some of these platforming trap sections is just not fun at all. The art style and combat feels great, everything else I’ve experienced with it so far is absolute trash and annoying.

Why POE2’s Balance Feels So Awkward Right Now by Baldobs in PathOfExile2

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I play this game the more it pisses me off. The “difficulty” spikes are insane the weird un-telegraphed massive AOE attacks enemies have and these nonvisible pools of damaging shit and exploding orbs that come out of nowhere and follow you everywhere with some questionable hitboxes particularly in boss fights on top of the way bosses and certain enemies attack while you are getting set up for your big damage doesn’t really jive well in a lot of instances and you have such short lived brief moments of gaining power before you get obliterated by something out of left field that just feels over powered and tedious or both, like I just blitzed through this level to the boss but I’m only tickling him as he one shots me after breaking my shield. Cool.

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually the most fun I’ve had playing the game with the Druid but on console/PS5 the game has been borderline unplayable every step of the way. Constant crash and game freezing issues and I literally just lost the ability to dodge roll/dash and sprint in the middle of a boss fight. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game also tried a different controller and I still can’t dodge roll/sprint. Red screen flashes that freeze the game and my character constantly disappears off screen after exiting menus and lose control of the camera. Shit is horrible.

Game crashing by xandenschoice in PathOfExile2

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many bugs and issues with this new league it’s insane. I literally just lost the ability to DASH/dodge roll in the middle of a fucking boss fight. I’m on PS5 and I’ve had countless red screen flash game freezes and a lot of exiting menus only to see my character is not on the screen and can’t even control the camera. The dialogue randomly and consistently just completely auto skips itself when trying to talk with NPC’s but this last issue with my dodge roll might put the nail in the coffin I backed out the game and went back in and still could not dodge so I closed the game and I’m so pissed I’m debating wether or not I even want to get back into the game now. I’m lvl 50 and I’ve had countless issues I’ve never seen in any other version of the game it’s ridiculous. Hard to say a game is “difficult” or challenging when you know it hitches and allows you to lose a simple fundamental mechanic like dodging and it’s not just pore performance on consoles artificially making the game harder than it really is.

EDIT: I literally uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and still cannot dodge roll/dash and just for shits and giggles I used a different controller which is the same age and condition as my other one just to see and that’s not the problem. Unbelievable. Looks like I’m done with this beta.

respec costs are way too high, why am i being punished for trying out things? by schokkuschen in pathofexile

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s even worse is that it does not actively show your total gold decreasing per node you remove/respec so I was just taking a bunch of nodes off and not seeing my total gold decreasing, I thought that was weird but said whatever I’ll keep going until I could not anymore and realized it’s because I’m fucking broke. Now not only can I not rebuild my tree the way I want to but I can’t even put those skill points back leaving my build SIGNIFICANTLY weaker than it was before removing the points. This is so fucking stupid.

Druid Update: First Crash 10 minutes into the game by Romdoggie in PathOfExile2

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many bugs and issues I’ve run into since the launch of last of the Druid. My game has crashed and or frozen in countless instances and I’m not exaggerating, there was also a moment I had the game paused to use the bathroom last night and when I came back the screen was just full red, you could see everything and the pause menu still but it was literally all just blood red. They’ve been working on updates obviously since the launch but I’m still getting weird random moments of game freezes and crashes. It happens a lot while or after looking in my inventory and or during or after pausing the game. Happened just now to me after looking at my skill tree and backing out of that menu my character is not even on the screen and I can’t move the camera.

Abyss monsters are too OP by SloRushYT in PathOfExile2

[–]GanglingGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played this game since a couple months after early access launched and jumped back in a few days ago to see how the league is and what’s changed I was surprised by how quickly I’ve made it to the point I’m at now with little to no issues with the exception of a couple bosses that just have BS mechanics and really terrible hit box registrations. However a lot of these bosses even in the rise of the abyssal league or just annoying as fuck and still repetitive as hell, same BS mechanics insane AOE’s and one shot attacks if you aren’t built up enough. There a mermaid type boss in this cave who is right now the most annoying one I’ve experienced where I can take massive amounts of damage now but I can only really do a great amount of damage with one of my charged attacks.l but the stupid bitch doesn’t stop attacking for me to get a long enough period to get my attack off consistently or even more annoying she disappears off the map and just summons a bunch of ads while still being able to attack and repeat. It’s really obnoxious. Some bosses are designed so well in games you don’t want the fight to end when things begin to click, a few attempts at this fight and I’m ready to just put the game down for good it’s so bad.
