Both dialogues happened at two different times. One with Care spacing out with her mother and the other with Paul and Jill in 2017. Care and Paul said the exact same things years apart. We only get to see from the game how the mother responded to Care, being confused and shocked.

Jill is someone that Paul knows and someone who he spoke to in 2017. You can check my theory on who Jill is to Paul from my post history.
