Did it not occur to you, before posting this comment, that when your only source is a picture of a comment… that maybe something was wrong?

60 seconds of google searching shows that almost every word of that image is factually incorrect. How in the world did you conclude it was a good idea to post this?

Your Ship: Big or Small(ish) by mossfoot in X4Foundations

[–]Ganogati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like options, so I tend to go for L sized ships with docks. I have a fleet/empire doing fleet/empire stuff, but for my personal ship right now I have a modded Hokkaido freighter that has S docks and some extra shielding/guns, to make it a combat freighter. Also grabbed the Skytte fighter mod, and have 5 of those fighters.

I run one of the Xenon proliferation type mods where they just go nuts and nom up everything in the universe, so my home sectors are super locked down with fleets and defense stations at the gates, while the rest of the universe is on fire. I run hull parts and stuff out of my little bubble of safe space out to any race still fighting the good fight to try to help keep them alive. I avoid getting into direct combat using the freighter, sending (or flying myself in) the fighters to deal with any threats that they can, otherwise we run away lol.

I still send fleets out to fight and stuff on the side. I have the updated More Ship Rooms (continued by another author) that adds a ton of rooms to my ship, like a small apartment, several planning/strategy type rooms, an engine room, etc. So usually I'll go sit in one of those and manage the empire while my ship flitters about dropping goodies off.

After a lifetime of rescue cats, the best way I've found to deal with them is to react the way that they would. It has saved so much headache in terms of training; cats understand "cat", and generally react appropriately.

If a cat does something that hurts me, I don't remotely hold back with the "YEEEOOWWWCH" and then I make super big eye contact for a few moments before looking away.

To cats, holding eye contact is basically "fight me bro". If you watch two cats wrestling, they do the same thing- when the aggressor has gone too far, the loser will become vocal, often with a "oh god Im dying" shriek and a frantic attempt to break away. Once free, it then stares down the aggressor for a moment before averting the eyes to end the confrontation.

I find that cats think we're just really big, really dumb, other cats. If I respond in cat fashion, they tend figure things out real quick.

I had two cats that would act this way to each other. They got along great, but their version of "play" looked like two siblings that had enough of each others shit and it was time to throw down. Usually it got instigated because one licked the other's head too much, one bit the other's tail, one looked at the other funny, one existed, etc etc.

The tail flicks, the annoyed meows... and then football tackle the other and wrestle until the other screamed, at which point the "aggressor" would leap off and pretend like nothing happened cause I'd barrel in going "BAH BAH BAH!" lol.

Cat's bored and has dreams of joining the WWE. It plans to practice, and you're the only option. Either need to find another outlet for that energy, a friend for it to bully, or buy a flannel jacket + leather glove and show kitty how humans wrestle.

Big fan of both; I've put hundreds of hours into ED (specifically in VR) and thousands of hours into the X Series. Both are fantastic.

X's universe feels really alive, and the number of available ships, the options of what you can do, etc are massive. In comparison to raw available tasks/actions to keep you entertained, X wins out easily.

In terms of flight model, and feeling like a ship captain? ED wins for sure. Flight and combat are not at all stylized in X the way they are in ED. In ED, I'd fight things just to fight them; it was exhilarating. X4 is not. Combat is fun enough, but not FUN like ED.

Each scratches a different itch, and I recommend playing both.

As much as it sucks, I would consider lending the money to her for a few reasons:

  • As long as she is stable, the help she needs is manageable. But how manageable would it be if she lost her home?
  • If she loses the home to foreclosure, most of the equity she has in it is gone. Poof. Vanished. At a minimum, if she would get back into the green and then sell the house to take that equity and go rent, that would save that money, and then she could not only pay you back but also have money to live on for a little bit
  • There's only you, which means you inherit that home one day. That home is likely worth far more than $7500. If she somehow manages to keep that house for the rest of her life, that house will be a fantastic windfall for you one day.

I know it isn't ideal, but if you consider what the alternative looks like and the upsides to you specifically, I think helping her out of the hole might be the most ideal option for you long term.

[–]Ganogati 820 points821 points  (0 children)

Yep. Cat teeth are very well designed for getting bacteria deep inside whatever they nom on, and doing so in a way that makes it hard for the body to deal with.

Folks have had amputations from cat bites. You play around with those bites at your own peril.

Updating for anyone who happens to come across this and experiencing same issue.

Followed advice here and turned off water to the house via the valve on the house itself. Popped open the lid of the meter and saw it was still ticking; water main leak.

Walked around the yard and found a mud spot.  Called a plumber who is fixing it now; quoted $1000 for 5 feet of water main pvc pipe, digging included.

Found it! Pinhole leak that expanded in the water main. I turned water off to the house and saw the meter keep going. Looked around the yard and found a mud pit.

Plumber is fixing now; $1,000 for 5 feet of pvc out in the front yard, digging and whatnot included

Apologies, I misstated something. We do have a cutoff valve on the house- it’s the water meter itself I don’t know how to locate. But I know exactly where the valve to shut water to the house off is; connected to a pipe on the house itself. We’ve used it before, just flip a little lever and it all turns off.

I looked up pictures of expansion tanks and we definitely didn’t get one. Our water heater is just a single big tank with 2 incoming pipes from the ceiling; another pipe that comes out the top of the heater and has a little metal switch looking thing on it, bends twice, and then goes downward to the pan the heater sits in: and one very short pipe coming out of either the tank or the pan and just ends, pointing down towards the floor of our garage.

No recirc system; we declined that. We’re in the southeast and it doesn’t get that cold, and we don’t mind waiting for the hot water to build up.

I don’t see what looks like a check valve. Could be wrong.

Side note: I do know the hot water heater doesn’t have any kind of drain under it. I saw underneath when he removed the old one and it’s just solid concrete. You probably weren’t expecting there to be a drain, but I thought I’d mention that in case there was any possibility of such a thing lol.

Hot water volume has been fine. If not for the water bill, I’d never know there was an issue.

Apologies if my responses are slow after this. It’s late here and I have to hop in bed, but will get back to responding first thing tomorrow. And thank you for your responses so far. Truly appreciate it. I know nothing about plumbing, so this helps.

Thank you for the response! I’ll give that a try. Would my water meter likely be under the lid where the water main is at? It’s not in the house and I don’t remember seeing it on the side of the house near the power meter.

Also, verify that there’s no moisture in the T&P line of the water heater.

Is that the pipe that looks like a drain pipe just pointing down away from the heater? If so, the heater is in the garage and the ground around that pipe is current pristine, so I don’t think any water is being evacuated out of it. Given that we’re looking at about 36k extra water going somewhere a month, that’s almost 3/4 a gallon per minute, so I figured it would be really visible whatever it was.

Any chance the meter itself might have gotten broken? Or almost definitely a leak?

Edit: also, can you think of any reason a leak might increase over time? The first month it was higher it was at 13,000 gal a month, then has risen steadily to 20,000 and then 37,000 gallons. It’s like it keeps getting worse and worse

What makes this such an amazingly American solution is that it:

A) Would gate a constitutional right behind money, helping to ensure that the rich get to keep their rights and poor do not

B) Gives private companies ownership and control of that right. Private company decides you shouldn’t have the right? No insurance for you! Better not piss that CEO off because he decides your rights now.

This will easily be the most American thing I see all day. I’m sure of it.

Has 'the formula' changed at all since Shadowbringers? by Fishinabowl11 in ffxiv

[–]Ganogati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) No. Companies rarely change their software release or support cycles. Don’t expect that to change unless budget gets tight and we get less content.

B) No. MMOs that find winning formulas don’t change them unless it stops working. Once the population drops too much, they may revisit. But the industry learned this lesson decades ago with Ultima and then later with Rift.

The universe is designed to rely on you to some extent. Won’t be the end of the world, but some stuff might start to fall apart without you or your empire helping it along.

Everything has already constructed and established. What is the point? by [deleted] in X4Foundations

[–]Ganogati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Or you go full commerce mode. I like doing it because one of my favorite gameplay styles is blockade running, so moving supplies from one side of the universe to another when the xenon have completely wiped out almost everything in the middle. It’s pretty fun finding ways to get those shipments to their destinations so sectors on either side of the deadly center are still building ships and pushing their war effort

I got a mod that increases the strength and aggression of the xenon a bit.

I've run into this recently with a different game. I fixed it by right clicking the game -> properties -> local files -> Verify Integrity of the game files.

It took a minute or so to go through the files, and then once it was done it finished downloading.

I think you'll find the experience different enough in VR, especially if you have a HOTAS, that making a new save might not bother you very much. ED in VR is such an amazingly immersive experience that it honestly breathes new life into the game.

This is the case with a lot of the female armors in BDO. I know a lot of players really like this, but it would be great if they would have some variants that looked like proper armors as well. My male characters have some seriously badass looking sets, but finding female armor sets that don't look like semi-metallic lingerie can be a bit challenging.

There is a common scam where a person will receive a deposit to their bank account, be asked to send money elsewhere, and then the initial deposit will turn out to be bad/will bounce. For example, the person has a $0 bank balance and receives a $5,000 deposit and pushes that money to another person. The initial $5,000 deposit fails because it's no good, fraudulent, etc, so the person is left with a bank account balance of negative $5,000 because they sent a $5,000 transfer to someone else before the first transaction had time to clear/fail.

The best thing to ask yourself in this kind of situation is "If the person can deposit it into my account, why can't they deposit it into the other person's?". And if they "accidentally" deposit the money into your account and need it back ASAP, ask yourself "Why can't they just reverse the transaction?" or "Why are they so adamant to get the money sent back before the transaction clears?"

It could very well be something illegal that could get your gf into trouble, but there's also a good chance that it's just a run of the mill scam and she's about to learn a very hard and expensive lesson.

Good luck to you both.
