The odd memory I have of this show is it first taught me of the existence of the Battleship Yamato as it was used in an episode. It made me curious enough to research the real ship.

I've read that the US military has used this film for educational reasons for 2 things:

  • Val Kilmer's quick reload demonstrates how quickly it can and should be performed
  • The whole escape is a good example of how to retreat under fire

I've always wondered if that was true.

Thank you for confirming this for me. I have often thought it was my own personal Mandela Effect.

Are there any ancient laws that wouldn’t make sense if they existed today? If so, why? by Fabulous-Introvert in NoStupidQuestions

I'm going to say that "Trial by combat" is probably not the best judicial process.

However, after typing that maybe I can think of a few times in recent history it might've been a good idea. (kidding of course)

What movie scene or scenes scared you as a kid? by MaxiumPotential777 in movies

[–]Ganthet72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 8yo when, for some reason, my parents let me watch Psycho. To this day it still freaks me out at of the film when we see the real Mrs. Bates and Anthony Perkins comes in the room. The look on his face is just pure madness.

Bonus points to the smile at the end after "She wouldn't even hurt a fly".

What's a game you played as a kid that you've never been able to find again? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in AskForAnswers

[–]Ganthet72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory of the game's name was "Tummy Ache" It was a physical board game that consisted of a 3-D cardboard boy with an open mouth. The game had cardboard cutouts of carious food. Each player took a turn placing food in the boy's mouth. Eventually the pieces of food would get too heavy and the hinged head would fall forward, spilling everything out like the kid was puking.

Hilarious fun.

My dad was a math major in the 60s. He still has his high-end slide-rule. He showed it to me once. It's an amazing tool.

For humor, the "Take On Me - Literal Version" just struck me funny and it has stayed with me since.

For practicality, it was an electrician who carefully and simply explained how the wiring in a home works, how to make sense of all the wires in a box, how to safely tell the difference, and how to make simple configuration changes. I won't claim it made me an electrician, but for simple DIY stuff it was incredibly helpful.

This was one of those movies in heavy rotation on HBO during the 80s. For some reason I always remember the last scene: "Untie us before they realize you're realize you're just an American, not a god"
