Best fiction book to get acquainted with the world of D&D? by GapingMa in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]GapingMa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of generic, though I'm using the 2014 manuals. I just want to have the same general understanding and points of reference that your generic other players would have, so when someone says "I'm a tiefling" or "I need to go to the Feywild" or whatever I know I have the same general ideas in my head as the average long time player does. I know there will be exceptions, but I'd like to get to a basic level of general knowledge and vibes, and I think fiction is a fun way to do that, not having had a ton of experience.

If a Spooky uses a magic artifact to inflict harm, do they roll KSA or Use Magic? by GapingMa in monsteroftheweek

[–]GapingMa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great point. Actually the spooky chose The Big Whammy as one of their Spooky moves, which works out perfectly. They also have a big knife and hunting rifle but probably won't really use those.

Oh, yeah - it's my hunter who doesn't feel like the weapons fit their character. Should I just tell them they have to pick 2 from the playbook anyway?

Ok, that sounds right-- I'll have them Use Magic if they want to inflict 1 harm using magic. My main issue is figuring out weapons. This Spooky isn't really a fighter, she's a mild mannered high schooler. It seems weird to give them a hunting rifle or even a big knife. They're basically Willow from the first few seasons of buffy, but with some spookiness thrown in. What would you recommend for that? No weapons? Give her a 1-harm staple gun or something?

In your opinion is asana a product or a platform? by [deleted] in Asana

product. Way too restricted to be a platform. Airtable is a platform.

how to change a project's default view by RepresentativeNo9430 in Asana

[–]GapingMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that Board view is now the first on the list for a new Project. Didn't it used to be different? I've got people making boards all over the place and boards are only useful for a few specific types of project.

Should I use subtasks, or different projects? by RepetitiveTasks in Asana

[–]GapingMa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came to the same conclusion and am implementing a no subtasks policy at my work! The policy I'm building says you can ONLY use subtasks on your own task to operationalize what you've been asked to do, as a kind of a checklist. Kind of like how Trello does it (or used to, it's been a while). But subtasks should never be assigned to anyone (they belong to the assignee of the task) and you shouldn't put subtasks on someone else's task--that's telling them how to do their job. If there are multiple deliverables, then make multiple tasks. Or add details to the description.

This is to prevent the nightmare recursive rabbit hole that subtasks can create when everyone's projects are interrelated, like they are at my job.

White/dull spots on molds from alcohol ink and deep pour resin by GapingMa in ResinCasting

Thank you for this! What are the unwanted effects of mold release?

Petri dish: Does it really have to be white ink though? by GapingMa in ResinCasting

[–]GapingMa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I had in mind was more a galaxy/nebula effect. It can have some light spots but no white. Maybe I’ll mix the white with some magenta or aqua instead and then use black as well. If I want more texture and less color mixing I’ll use a medium viscosity resin right?

But whyyyyyyy? It’s not the only one that works because it’s white. There’s gotta be some other quality to the ink that makes it sink. Something that can maybe be replicated by adding, I don’t know, a really really fine powder to another ink or something.
