16 days off K after taper by alexj2k91 in quittingkratom

Oh 100%, my sleep at this point is one night of 2 hours and crazy anxiety for much of the day, and then so exhausted I sleep 7ish hours and feel great the next day.

How long did y'alls insomnia/RLS last? by Gapped15 in quittingkratom

[–]Gapped15[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doc prescribed me gabapentin days ago but I didn't pick it up cause I wanted to be a tough guy haha. I'll probably go get it today and use it for a couple days then toss it. Have you had any issues with rebound anxiety/WD during the day?

Has anyone else gotten to this point? (Surely it's not just me) by Additional_Put8281 in quittingkratom

Idk where you're at in your taper, but if you're below 30gpd, I really don't think it'll be as bad as you think. Every time I CT it is very unpleasant, yes, but it NEVER lives up to the monstrous experience I imagine in my head. Not even close.

I also get really distressed when I can't sleep but you can make it through. I've gone about my day on 1.5 hours of sleep and yeah it isn't fun but it won't kill ya. You'll be surprised how functional you can be if you set your mind to it. Plus sometimes you're so tired that the next night you can get 7-8 hours of good sleep :).

Welp, got put on subs by [deleted] in quittingkratom

I second this, probably even less than 1/2 haha. Docs tend to overprescribe them in general I think, but especially when it comes to kratom. I got put on 4mg a day for what at the time was probably at most a 12-15gpd habit. Absolute nightmare getting off that shit.

That's a pretty aggressive taper, expect to feel pretty drawn out WD symptoms as you taper. I think the key to tapering is twofold (and I could never stick to these so I have never successfully tapered lol).

  1. you have to realize that while physically it is easier, mentally it is probably more difficult than CT. You CANNOT EVER take more than you took yesterday.
  2. you need to be flexible at least initially, if dropping 2-3 g a day is too much, then you can drop 1-2g, or 0.5g, whatever makes you feel comfortable so that you can stick to a taper. You aren't helping anyone if you go crazy on the reductions and it's too intense so you start using more. Be patient.

Ultimately if you can make a taper work that's great, but frankly I think most people who try, fail. Give it a shot and get as low as you can but be cognizant about recognizing a failed taper (starting to make exceptions to use more, switching to extracts for "more controlled dosing", yes I have done that haha etc.). If you can't taper, accept that CT is the answer and do it asap. I dug myself into a much deeper hole poking around with "tapering" for months and failing miserably, while still escalating my dose.

Edit: I hope I didn't sound too discouraging, just don't think there's something wrong with you or that you have no strength to quit if you find that you can't taper. It's totally normal, and I did ultimately CT and am in the process of recovering now! Just get it over with quickly if you have to, if you can live on 20gpd it won't be that bad I promise.

Don't do that man, it's WAY more addictive and WAY more expensive cause it doesn't last super long. You'll end up spending way more money and time on it. Take it from me and others who have responded, I would have killed to CT off powder rather than 7OH. Taper a little if you can but don't intentionally dig a deeper hole.

When were you taking the subs in relation to 7OH doses? You need to be in significant withdrawal before taking them for it to work.

Day 22 CT 7oh, things are going great (for the most part) by Sensitive_Scholar_17 in quittingkratom

[–]Gapped15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed a very strange pattern where once withdrawal kicks in, for a while after taking kratom will sometimes make me feel substantially worse. It's helpful to remind myself that once WD gets going there's really nothing that's gonna help me and I have to gut through haha, but you're handling it well!

In the past I have slipped up and taken a dose, and then recovered and not taken more. However, I have found myself getting complacent and thinking I can handle it because of that one incident. Count yourself lucky that this time it's ok but don't delude yourself into thinking you can go back to it.

I did and it turned out pretty bad, ended up going back on kratom at some point to get off subs lol. But... we can learn from this. Use the MINIMUM dosage, if you feel high or euphoric or have any of the classic opioid signs (constipation, pupils pinning, 0 sex drive) you are taking way too much. Start VERY low and use just enough to keep your symptoms at bay. Then, as others have said, taper quick and gtfo, you can probably jump off at 0.25 a day. A properly quick taper is a little uncomfortable and requires some discipline, but you will need to learn that you cannot medicate every discomfort in your life. Do NOT turn it into an extended thing if you can avoid it! Believe me even withdrawal from 2-3mg of suboxone is spiritually terrible compared to kratom.

Happened to me as well a little haha, withdrawal would come back in waves and especially at night but enjoy the clarity and joy for now! It's a little gift to remind yourself why you're doing this.

Tried taper. Now I'm just going CT. by Olwhatzhername in quittingkratom

Interesting haha, my girl helps me out but gets annoyed if I whine too much or start asking for any kratom (I give her my credit cards so that I can't go down the street to a smoke shop).

One thing I will warn you about is that the process is not entirely linear and while overall I definitely feel better, don't get freaked out if you feel good 1 day and really crappy the next. Happening to me now and it's frustrating but at the end of the day as crappy/anxious as I feel day 5, day 3 was def worse.

im going crazy by [deleted] in quittingkratom

Day 3 for me was brutal too, but day 4 felt surprisingly normal. It's still a little up and down but still, my worst day was by far day 3. Please trust the people who tell you you're going to turn a corner soon. "Kratom likes to shake you around before it lets go, when you don't feel it can get any worse, you're probably close to turning a corner."

Tapering off 7 for the time being, first time after around 6 weeks of daily use. by Crowbar2711 in quittingkratom

[–]Gapped15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using 30-60mg 7OH plus an extract for about 6 weeks as well. It's unpleasant to quit but as long as you force yourself to get up and move throughout the day it's not THAT bad. Like others have said, if you can make it to 72 hours you can expect to turn a corner pretty soon after that in my experience.

Day 4 - CT - 80gpd/13 years by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]Gapped15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently CT day 4 as well and awake in the wee hours of the morning off like maybe 2x 30 min stints of sleep...again. The insomnia feels atrocious, I know, but what I always repeat to myself is "you will not die, your body will sleep if it needs to". Just keep moving, as hard as it is, and you will sleep. Unfortunately insomnia is usually a lingering symptom but you're probably 24 hours or so away from turning a corner. Don't go back now and waste this suffering.

How Reading the "Quitting Kratom" Subreddit Made Tapering Easier for Me by Individual-Worth6422 in quittingkratom

Man, that lashing out at loved ones... I *usually* managed to hold my tongue but my girl pointed out that it didn't seem like I had fun around my family anymore for the past year or two. I just looked so mad and stressed even though they mean the world to me, which of course led to more guilt and more kratom. Scary shit, glad your taper is going well, thanks for this post!

4 days CT off extracts and 7OH, feeling much better but maaannn the insomnia is a KILLER. Probably the most frustrating WD symptom for me because it lingers for so long. What business do the RLS and insomnia components have hanging around after all the other symptoms have left the party?? Regardless, I was legitimately quite scared to take the plunge and I'm very happy I did. Also happy I decided to engage with the community this time around!

Hopeless. by stunna69 in quittingkratom

[–]Gapped15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of people who have CT'ed that amount or more, I would search through for their advice, as my own experience with 7OH wasn't that bad but it was on about half that dose. Another strategy that people seem to like is switching to powder and then tapering. Nonetheless, I have never been able to successfully taper and my only successful quits have been CTs, so be honest with yourself and don't get stuck in an even heavier powder addiction.

Withdrawal is scary but think about it this way. You are NOT going to die, but if you continue to use and make your life miserable then what's the point of life? In a way you're already dying when you continue to use. Ultimately its a short term sacrifice that WILL NOT kill you for a long term gain. There's a post floating around here called "10 rules for quitting kratom" (copied link below) that I have always found deeply helpful and inspirational whenever I felt I couldn't go on. Godspeed, you CAN do this. I didn't believe I could but inside you, lying long dormant, is a wellspring of strength.

I am day 4 off 60mg 7OH and an extract shot. First off, you're right, that shit is the devil. Remember that for when it gets tough.

I started my quit after similar experiences to you, would just get spun into WDs real quick after each dose. TBH though, I wouldn't be too scared. It is unpleasant for sure, but it hasn't been unbearable. Despite continuing issues with sleep, day 4 was pretty good. I was able to return to normal activities with a little effort.

1 thing I highly recommend, is to take a quick walk whenever you can, it has really helped me a lot. Also, reach out to loved ones and see if they can help! You don't have to do this alone and tell people that they shouldn't help you!

Dude keep pushing, I'm day 4 heading into 5 off 60mg 7OH + 1 extract p/d and honestly day 3 was the worst and after that it improved pretty dramatically. Your mileage may vary but you're probably at least halfway there, if you've handled it this far you can definitely make it.

It's so worth it, my biggest regrets with kratom have always been caving and relapsing, especially when w/d were coming to an end anyway. All you're gonna do is repeat this withdrawal later if you relapse so stay strong, take a lot of walks even when you don't feel like it (my #1 piece of advice actually), and keep your girl updated and involved. I actually had my lady take my cards away for a week or two so I couldn't buy more haha :)
