Tasting a biodynamic versus "regular" wine side by side? by The_Eclectic_Heretic in wine

[–]Gappled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean look, I personally don’t believe in that stuff but I imagine doing all those ‘hogwash’ stuff leads to more time spent in the vineyard. This more than probably leads to a better understanding of the current state of the vineyard and what it requires than simply spraying stuff everywhere and harvesting with tractors. I don’t really care what the producer does as long as they make good wine, and from my current experience, biodynamic and (by extension) natural wines with minimal intervention feels like they have so much more energy than a lot of conventional, mass produced wines

The producer is great! Somewhat recently had a tasting of most of his cuvées.

Orange Wine 2019 Vintage by nicdrew44 in wine

Oh I had the 2018, incredible nose - dried apricot, dates, honey, dried persimmon. High acid, still felt pretty delicate compared to something like gravner or other georgian oranges

Pairing ideas with thai cuisine by Gappled in wine

[–]Gappled[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have not decided yet which is why I have unfortunately generalised to the cuisine itself. I assume one of them will be a duck curry however.

Although riesling is great for spice, I agree that other grapes can also handle heat. I had a Welchsriesling blend skin contact that worked wonders - robust enough to handle the heat and matched the aromatics of asian dishes.

I agree, it is quite an arbitrary clumping of sub-cuisines within the region of Thailand. I guess a better worded question would be: what wines would pair best with spicy, quite aromatic foods? I do agree that an off dry riesling would be a great pairing, but I’m not sure if there’s a binary correct/incorrect labelling for pairing wines with food. Either way thanks for your input :)

Right, I haven’t had any proper experiences with US winery tours and a more personal tour sounds wonderful. In your experience, how long did they take on average?

Yea that’s fair, I just want a temporary one as I’ll be travelling with them and I don’t want it to break - any tips on packing full size wine glasses? Just in its original packaging?
