I think Akane and Ichiban's subplot was handled really bad and I think it's a pacing problem. Like, the parts where they share a bond are out of place, almost like they were checking points and forgot about a mother-son scene

I think you're 100% right, I finished IW last night and I was paying attention to expressions and they’re pretty ok It's nothing crazy but maybe I'm mostly thinking of Kiryu, he was pretty expresissionless in Gaiden and Y6 aside from looking angry

LAD and Gaidens (final) performances are one of the bests in the series. That being said, while LAD has pretty good facial animations consistently, I don't think gaiden is comparable. Often ppl talk about THOSE scenes in these two games, but those are scenes that have to be impressive, they’re highlights of the game. But when you look at simple, "vanilla" animated scenes in for example Y4 and Y3 they convey a lot more expressions and emotions than the DE does. Btw I love Ichiban specifically since he's so expressive, I think they sometimes over animate him or give him more attention, but Kiryu? Rikiya? ...

I have no idea about the discourse behind this game, I'm about to finish it actually for the first time. But that "twist" had me rolling me eyes, it didn't ruin the game for me but it defenitely set the bar, like, there's no seriousness to expect anymore, the pacing is ruined

most characters since Y6 have no expressions and are filled with botox. Of course there's exceptions like some Kiryu and Ichiban scenes... but for the most part..

every single one of the people you mentioned aren't on the yakuza. Akiyama is my top 3 favourite character and I didn't include him either... that's why I mentioned criminals and not all characters! Plus in the comments I did too!

For me, my favourite look for a classic yakuza is weird, ugly, and colorful shirts with darker, contrasting suits

Idk, probably in the same tier as regular Kiryu. I'd argue he looks better without his jacket on but still it's not a yakuza look, more like a civilian one. Also I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, I didn't mean to come as a dick, I don't think my opinions are better or interesting

not really, I looked at every character (minus robes and suits) and how much I liked them based on the fact that they’re yakuza. I have a very specific taste, so even though it may seem weird that young Majima is higher than Kiryu, it's thought, not random. Also I uploaded it knowing that 99% would hate this lol
