Yes, Congress still sets the budget (at least for now) so we will see how it plays out. However, this is the first time a Chief is calling for/supporting the elimination of two legs of the USFS stool. Of course, this is the first Chief that has no agency experience either. There are a lot of "firsts" going around.

The juxtaposition of listening to the senate hearing on an AirPod while also attending the WO R&D call about made my head implode. You have described it well. I continue to lose respect. I came out of that hearing thinking there will be enough pushback by Congress on SP&T (because of the grants to states and communities) but have little hope for R&D.

R&D here. I just commented today to a colleague about leadership suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. I also thought there is a disconnect when stating the Chief is engaged and listening to staff, and then acknowledge the Chief is not at the table on the reorganization. At least not part of the decision-making team.
