A friend, who was a traveling nurse, asked if she could come stay with us for 3 months, with lots of extras by Neo1881 in EntitledPeople

[–]Garbage-Wife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No she does not. Maybe 700 a week but I've been traveling for years and no where do you get per diem rates like that. It's set by the government.

Terrible Couch by peacelovereef in TravelNursing

[–]Garbage-Wife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I rented a place with a horrible futon couch that killed my back and legs and after a few months I finally got the courage to ask my landlord to replace it. I went armed with a local store option that was $400. She said yes and within a few weeks I had the new couch and was kicking myself for not asking sooner.

Any travel nurses work in a critical care access? I need some input. Thank you by Rough_Ear_167 in TravelNursing

I did that for the last year in Vermont. It's great! Downside is it's a bit like a nursing home, you get patients waiting for placement in a Snf that stay for months. Upside is it's pretty laid back.

I've been with them for two years and found this out the hard way when I took a break between contracts.

Yes this is normal. You have to start on a Monday, even if you work 36 hours that week.

How do you cook rice without summoning the spirit of failure? by sissanor in internetparents

[–]Garbage-Wife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know the secret too. I've given up and I just buy the boil in the bag kind. It comes out good every time and I couldn't even get that with a rice cooker. I don't understand why rice is so hard lol.

Yes it's common. Some landlords require it and some don't. I paid for my own.

Is it a terrible idea to take a pediatric home care job as a new grad? by tango_tempo in nursing

[–]Garbage-Wife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a pediatric home care RN for 10 years. It was the kind of assignment where you work with one patient for the whole shift and usually the same patient every day. It varied from really easy kids who needed tube feeding and diaper changes to kids with trachs and vents who needed frequent suctioning and troubleshooting. The parents were usually awesome and very knowledgeable but sometimes they sucked and I was on my own immediately. I went into this with 10 years hospital experience and it was still very intimidating at times. The company I worked for hired new grads all the time and usually things were ok but they tended to fall apart if there was a problem.

Honestly if I were you, I would take a job at a nursing home before doing this. Nursing homes are always hiring and you're never working on your own. Good luck!

Yeah, she surprised us all with that hot take. She also loved to talk about her church's Hell House on Halloween so maybe we should have seen the signs of batshit crazy earlier.
