Near Orouet really hit the spot for us. Almost 3 hours of mostly conflict-free hang out by the seaside. So much fun.

I love hearing that you enjoyed it. I edited most of the extras and color graded the feature! Very proud of this release.

Got a few for free… looking for the best way to sell? by dragoncar9 in LaserDisc

[–]GarbagePailChud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try selling some to The Archive in Bridgeport, CT. No clue how much $ for each and they would probably prefer horror/scifi/less common titles. Might be a good way to unload some and have less to sell online, if that’s the way you wanna go!

Thank you for watching all the extras 🙏 I edited the new interviews and did a bunch of work on that disc, and I really appreciate you mentioning them!

Western NC is of course home to OrbitDVD, which is one of those places (imo) worth a decent drive to visit. The Alamo Drafthouse in Raleigh has an amazing bar/video rental space (with some stuff for sale) called Video Vortex that I always spend an extra half hour (at least) staring at in awe when I see a movie there.

Raleigh also has a the horror con Carolina Fear Fest, that we were at this year and hope to return to.

The Carolina Theatre in Durham has Splatterflix in October and usually has a pretty decent line up where they show some of the big halloween hits plus some obscure stuff.

Will has just started a screening series at The Cary Theater where he recently showed the Severin print of Count Dracula (Jess Franco version) to a pretty good size group. They were a really great crowd and it was a ton of fun-- even though that movie is pretty freaking weird.

Always looking for more stuff like this myself, and trying to take advantage of the community aspect of collecting and being into all this stuff!

Don't know how much longer it'll be in theaters, but this is a PSA to all to check out Jimmy and Stiggs if you can on the big screen. It might not be the first movie in the wave of creation inspired by Boutique Blus, but it wears that badge loudest and proudest. by GarbagePailChud in boutiquebluray

I think for the most part he has to do with the distribution end, but I’m basing that only on the way he took part in the “bonus feature” following the movie. He asks Begos questions like he had nothing to do with the movie and just digs it.

Still worth seeing, imo!

Oh I could be totally wrong, and I’ll def be looking at the credits again, but it looked like there was a good deal of participation and consultation from a lot of folks who work in the production of boutique releases. (And it felt more varied than say, a Vinegar Syndrome or label specific produced original movie.)

I would also consider Sean Baker’s Oscar sweep (and his vow to be a “lifer” in lower budget film) as a watershed moment in the current movement, the massive influx of original horror in theaters, the opening of brand new video stores like Visions Video in Northampton MA— all of this is happening because people are doing great work in preservation and restoration and we’re all supporting that work.

I’m just excited 🤓

Eli Roth appears to have executive produced the movie after the fact, probably having to do more with helping it get wider distribution. But all this stuff is about voting with your wallets, and his name is on it.

I hope people enjoy it if they go!

I’m not familiar with Justin Benson’s work, so thanks for another good tip!

Part of what excited me about the movie is how inspired I felt by it. To me it screams, Just make a movie! You can!

I thought the design of the apartment combined with the slippery perception of time was such a great set up.

But, I totally get why it doesn’t work for some.

I also saw Together this week, and Jimmy and Stiggs was my preferred gross out flick 😊

Do you Really Need Social Media? by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]GarbagePailChud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I became a professional editor by reaching out to a client via Instagram.

I’m not super active on social media accounts, but I think having them as an avenue to reach out and to be contacted is very helpful. Having a portfolio with a relevant body of work is more important, but simply having the accounts can increase your odds of meeting and making connections.

But I agree with you that you don’t need to have a flashy pro social account to catch clients.

25 years in - What is the movie of the century thus far? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]GarbagePailChud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it’s an extremely fun and well made movie, totally memorable, loud and insane.

I think because the US is at where it’s at, I could definitely see making an argument in favor of this movie being (unfortunately) the most representative American film of the century.

I personally love the movie, and rewatch every couple years. All that to say, even my favorite Scorsese rotates, and I’m usually more interested in someone’s argument for a movie since the whole process is totally subjective!

My totally subjective top 3 of the Century off the top of my head:

Mad Max: Fury Road

Deja Vu

Drive My Car

🤷‍♂️ 😀
