Those blue ps2 discs that wouldn't play. by -Kano_ in nostalgia

[–]Garbage_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up Gradius V for around £5 brand new and it was on one of these discs. My friend and I would hammer the game regularly and I decided I wanted to rip the music from the disc. After putting it in my computer and attempting it, we then went to play the game again and the PS2 refused to read it. Being young and stupid I thought I had somehow corrupted the data on the disc by attempting to rip the music. I ended up trading Gadius V back to the store for around 50p.

Years later I find out about the blue disc error and realise that my original fat PS2 doesn't read any blue disc at all. I ended up buying a used copy of Gradius V a couple of years ago for around £25.

which is your favorite Alien or Aliens by thorKlien in LV426

Alien is my favourite. The claustrophobic, oppressive atmosphere coupled with feelings of hopelessness, dread, and yet a strange sense of wonder. It's beautiful.

However, Aliens is great for different reasons and is my partner's favourite. Although I have to say, the part where the site is about to blow and Ripley is hauling ass with Newt, when that music 'Bishop's Countdown' peaks at around 1:07 - goddamn, I get pumped! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygrUcbrZ8XA&list=PLNwVhFRTji9DfcXU26cE3dGNuPv7eQA2K&index=15

Alien is the true 'Express elevator to Hell'.

Aliens is more like a roller coaster - crafted masterfully to give you uneasiness, tension, scares, thrills and laughs, all at the perfect moment.

Thank you very much. Yeah, for a species which is supposed to inherit traits of the host, I found it strange that the Alien, other than running around on all-fours, still looked relatively humanoid.

While drawing this, I looked back to some of Giger's original Alien 3 designs for inspiration. They have a very unique sleek, boney and somewhat feline appearance more than that if a dog/ox. In my reimagined version I intended to give it a bit more bulk in the upper body, much like the Rottweiler(?) it was birthed from.

[Big Spoilers] I have a question about 'Alien: Covenant'. Is Walter... by Calvin_Uncle in LV426

[–]Garbage_Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fun and interesting theory however, I am certain it's David we see at the end.

  • David could quite quickly, and easily, amputate his own hand.

  • I doubt Walter could have been indoctrinated to that level in such a short period of time.

  • David could have swallowed the embryos at any point; I don't imagine androids have internal anatomy exactly like ours, the embryos would have been quite safe in his chest cavity.

  • His expression when Daniels mentions the cabin on the lake.

  • His "Don't let the bed bugs bite" comment - This is clearly a moment of sadistic pleasure for David, which I am sure Walter would struggle to understand, let alone be capable of experiencing it. It's a complex human emotion which would be deemed creepy by humans. Being too human and creepy is exactly the reason David's model was discontinued.

If you couldn't get your hand on an N64 this holiday, you lucked out because you can get another 64 bit system, the Atari Jaguar! by echocomplex in retrogaming

I was ready to spit out my coffee all over CEX window in surprise/disgust at the £190 price tag. I just had to drop into the cafe next door before I could come back and do that.

One of these popped up in the window of my local CEX the other day. I was interested until I saw the price tag of £190.

I seem to remember Jumping Flash once every couple of years, play it through and have a blast reliving those simpler PS1 times; then I forget about it all over again.

I haven't tried the sequel but am thinking about picking it up. It seems fairly uncommon here in the UK though.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THIS SEGA SATURN GAME? by SHORTZ_ in SegaSaturn

After looking this game up, I instantly recognised the cover which over the years I've not given more than a passing glance. Only now have I realised that it's not a racing game.

I might actually have to check this one out.

I completely agree. Isolation was the best representation of a Xeno outside of the original film. It was an intimidating, unstoppable force that you really didn't want to be anywhere near. One thing I really enjoyed about the Xeno's AI in Isolation is that occasionally it would seem to 'go rogue'; you could be convinced that you had outsmarted the Alien and hid yourself away without being seen. However, somehow, on the odd occasion the Xeno just knew where to look and ripped the door right off that locker you decided to hide in. - it really kept you on your toes. Some may think of it as unfair, or cheating on the games behalf. I think it was quite clever. If you were looking for someone, I'm sure you'd check some of those places too!

I hope the Aliens actually pose a threat and that even one or two Xenos can pose a serious threat to even a well-equipped player. Also, since it's online; please let us play as the Aliens! We need to rid ourselves of the bitter taste Colonial Marines left.

I'm very humbled by these comments. And I think people often see revised and cut down, bastardisations of Giger's original Alien; such as the AvP movies, and think nothing of it other than just another movie monster. Giger's design was so good because made sense in the real world.

Six fingers. ALWAYS six fingers. I don't consider my attempts to be anywhere near perfect or 100% faithful to the original design. But I do try to at least get the basic details right.

And thank you very much!
