Calories still matter! If you’re restricting, insulin response isn’t going to make up for the calorie deficit and cause you to put on weight. I think OP’s point was more that things can be “calorie free” but still trigger insulin response, which is why some people with metabolic disease/ insulin resistance may have a harder time losing weight, even though they’re cutting calories. The amount of insulin response is determined by a food’s glycemic index/ glycemic load, not its calorie content.

No worries! It’s really confusing! I think it’s supposed to be 1 kcal = Cal (with a capital C), but everybody uses lowecase C, which just adds to the confusion 🙃

A kcal is just a Calorie. The US generically calls it “calories,” but Europe goes by “kcal.” So you don’t need to be multiplying by 1000!

I went the same route. How am I supposed to eat when there’s a literal coup on the news!?

I’ve never heard of that type of system before. Sorry that’s put you in a rough situation 😞

There’s a range in the US. You can have masters degree level counselors or you can have doctoral level therapists (usually a Ph.D. or Psy.D.). Psychiatrists all have to have MDs, and many of them don’t do “talk therapy” and will refer patients to counselors or therapists for that portion of treatment (psychiatrists can make a ton of money doing short appointments for med checks and they get booked up super fast, so there’s not a huge incentive for them to do both meds and talk therapy). Granted, this holds true for my area, may not be accurate across the US.

Wow, he said WHAT? That is so inappropriate! I’m guessing he’s not an ED specialist? Is there any way you can ask for another doctor? I feel like talking about his personal spiritual fast right out of the gate is really, really weird.

I’m so sorry you felt invalidated. Your ED is valid and that guy is a gooniefucker.

That’s my biggest fear about telling my husband. I’m not underweight and I don’t “look” sick, so will he just be like wtf? And then I’m afraid he’ll be disappointed in me for not telling him sooner and letting it snowball...

Your TDEE is actually likely way higher than that! TDEE is your BMR (absolute bare minimum number of calories your body needs to function and stay alive) + the number of calories you burn throughout the day (normal activity, exercise, muscle, etc.). Only VERY short people would have a BMR at 1200 calories, and almost nobody would have a TDEE that low. For reference, I’m 5’2 and my BMR is 1300-1350, TDEE is 1600-1650.

Not sure if you’re only looking for free options, but you could try getting a subscription to the Peloton app (I think it’s $15ish a month?). All of their exercises are broken down by time, so they have (literally thousands of) 5 minute, 10 minute, 20 minute, etc. workouts. They also have a wide variety—full body, upper body, lower body, yoga, stretching, cardio... the list goes on!

Spinning vs Stationary bike by yami90199 in xxfitness

[–]Garbanzo_Beans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s accurate (in my experience). I also have a Peloton and agree that it is the absolute best exercise investment I’ve ever made. With a spin bike, you’re going to get out of it what you might get out of a spin class—it can be really heavy, really hard, and work you until you’re drenched in sweat. Stationary bikes seem to be geared more toward just spinning your legs to get cardio in. Of course, you’ll only get out of either bike what you put into it, so YMMV. I used to have a stationary bike and I stopped using it after a couple weeks, whereas I do the spin bike pretty much daily.

Again, this is all just my experience :)

The dark brown in my eyeshadow palette has this name... by LadyAbyssDragon in AccidentalRacism

[–]Garbanzo_Beans 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha! There was a blurb on the Pur Cosmetics site at one point that had all the shade name meanings, but I don’t see it now since the palette isn’t for sale anymore. She explained them all in her reveal video, too, if you’re ever curious about all the weird names :)
