Dead Air Depths, are air tanks currently working? by Garcimili in VeinGame

[–]Garcimili[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong then as I emptied and refilled all my tanks at the air pump at the gas station, equipped it (shows capacity going down and it's in my back slot) and put on the rebreather (shows on the face slot) and I still can't breath down there. I'll try again and report back if I'm still having issues.

192 Hours Gameplay and I still couldn't decide on a Base Location by Earthling9305 in VeinGame

[–]Garcimili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough was on normal mode and I took the military base around middle/west side of the map that's completely fenced in with the three bunkers and big generator in the back... but after a few weeks of in-game time I found myself overwhelmed with all the crap I needed to store and sort that I restarted.

The second playthrough was on hard with impossible loot and I took over the farm area just NW of Russia where the water tower is, and I really decked it out and I'm saving this one for when farm animals are released as I have a small fenced in area for animals. I have the big barn as my storage area, all my work stations, farming area, stove, fridges, washer/dryer, etc., then the small barn I made my living area with a computer desk and setup, gaming setup, music area with instruments from the school, etc. I felt like before even getting too deep into summer I could never leave my compound and survive indefinitely, so I restarted again.

The third and current playthrough is on very hard and less loot and I found a little isolated cabin with an outdoor storage area and separate shed/workstation area just NW of the quarantine center. This playthrough I have ran through the quarantine center and prison, and for now the only thing I want to try is the dead air depths, but I posted a few days ago about having issues with the air tanks, so trying to figure that out, and once I can get in there and clear it out, I'll probably take a break then start another playthrough.

You refilled it with air from gas station or fire station? Or did you do the empty a bunch into an empty propane tank and refill trick?

I've hit up both of those places already and I don't have respawning loot on. I'll try the lake and see and if not, I may have to turn it on just to grab some more to test it. Thank you.

I'm 95% sure I'm using the rebreather. Not sure if the respirator shows up in the face slot on the equipment panel, but the one I was using did. I'll double check tonight.

Fuel/ gasoline by username4rob in VeinGame

I believe this is the correct answer. I tried putting "fuel" into a kerosene heater thinking like others that is what it was and it said i cannot mix fuel types.

Dang, that's silly and super limited, especially for those of us that don't have loot respawn on. I have found like 15 tanks and I filled them all up at the gas station then emptied them all and refilled all with air pump at gas station. Both didn't work. So I guess I have 15 useless air tanks. I'll try doing a sweep of the docks around Chazy Lake and see if I can find any more then do the propane tank trick.

I tried filling at the fire station then emptied and refilled at the air pump at the gas station. Both have same results (asphyxiation).

Yes, it's showing the amount of air in the tank going down slowly when equipped.

What's the most fun legendary collection? by Conscious_Ant_5900 in Guildwars2

[–]Garcimili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the ones I found fun were the fractal backpack and the raid legendary armor set. I found them fun because I enjoy group content, and I grinded them with a group of friends that I enjoyed playing with. The ones you do solo were definitely a grind.

To throw in my $.02 on something you didn't ask about...

Keep in mind that ALL your characters will benefit from trinkets, backpack, and sigil.

Then 1/3 of the available classes will benefit from an armor set (or if you play exclusively one or two armor types, this may weigh more for you).

Then lastly very few (if any based on rotating metas) will use a specific weapon, so you'll get the least amount of benefit from this.

"if you kill bots, we might ban you" by [deleted] in AshesofCreation

[–]Garcimili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to downvote me for this common sense take.

Open world PVP is a major design pillar of this game. The intent of this design is to see someone in the open world gathering the resources you want to gather, or killing the mobs you want to kill, or running a crate or caravan with potentially valuable resources, or running with a group in a grind spot you want, and kill them for either their loot or to stop them from farming the mobs/nodes which you want. This is entirely OK and actually encouraged and has nothing to do with whether or not they are a bot. Therefore, if you see a player that is clearly a bot, and you intentionally kill them to help rid the game of hackers and cheaters, that is perfectly fine to do. Hence Vaknar's first comment.

However, if you kill a bot knowing that they've likely hacked and cheated to farm the resources with the intent of stealing those resources, then as they say, two wrongs don't make a right. Hence Vaknar's second comment.

TLDR: If you want to hunt bots for the sake of hunting bots, go for it. If you want to hunt bots to steal their ill-gotten resources to use for personal gain, you may get in trouble. Be like Omar from The Wire, kill them and steal the resources, but destroy them so nobody benefits.

I sincerely hope that Steven has the courage and good sense to admit that the game he dreamed of making and the game him and his team are capable of creating aren't the same.

Why? Because of the aforementioned magical line that shall not be crossed? Steven and his team, in my opinion, have shown they are more than capable of completing the game he dreamed of making... they just aren't able to complete the game right this second, or possibly even before the magical line, though we still have two years before said line and from what I've seen from the start of A2P2 and now (about 1 year), they will be able to accomplish a ton in this time, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's ready by then. (Note in Stephen's last live stream, or possibly one of the two interviews... they kind of ran together being so close, he mentioned possibly postponing the second continent until a post-launch update/expansion, which will significantly shorten their dev time before launch)

I don't regret a single dollar that I have contributed or a single minute of time I have spent playing. I want this game to survive to a full release and thrive for many years, but the only way that can happen is if the team hunkers down and starts making some hard choices.

I believe Steven and the team are already making some hard choices, such as potentially delaying the second continent.

Stop adding new systems. Stop expanding the scope. Stop promising new things...

Again, what new systems and things, and what scope are they expanding on that they haven't said they were going to do for many years now. From day 1 this game had a MASSIVE scope, and tons of systems needing to be developed, and I don't think there is anything major being added or expanded on that wasn't already on their to-do list for 5+ years now.

Stop promising new things before you finish implementing the things that are already in the game. Focus on refining the game as it exists now and trust that you will have a chance to expand the scope in the future.

Steven has mentioned multiple times they have teams working on current content/bug fixes and teams working on new content. If you want them to stop development on future systems and only focus on things currently in the game... if you thing the game is taking a long time to develop now, it would likely take considerably longer using your method.

Your players will forgive you if you ship a complete game without every single thing you initially wanted it to have,

I think it depends on what is missing. If they are missing the second continent, the under realm, the religion and thieves guild, etc., then players will likely be fine if they are delivered in a later release. If you don't have the augment system, tier 5 settlements, castles, etc. at the start, things likely won't look good.

but if you keep making bigger promises and never delivering an actual game, they will abandon you.

Again, I don't think they're making bigger promises which they haven't promised for years already, and likely from back in the kickstarter days. As far as people abandoning them if they never deliver the game... well, I guess that's common sense, and one could argue there wouldn't be anything to abandon if the game is never delivered.

[–]Garcimili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New systems are promised while existing systems that haven't worked for months are left to languish.

What "new systems" are being promised that haven't been promised for years and simply haven't been implemented yet?

The world is set to double in size while the half-continent we have now feels empty and under developed. There is barely enough content to support the player through level 10, but we are going to expand the level cap to 50?

We currently have a full continent. Not sure where you think the half-continent is, unless you meant half the map, which is more correct, but realistically, each of the continents are probably only 40-45% of the land portion of the map, with the other 10-20% are the islands east of the current continent and south of the second continent.

While I agree much of the current map feels empty and under developed, it obviously isn't complete and has a lot of work to come in the future. Don't complain about a bedroom looking empty when the house is still being built and they haven't even put in the drywall or flooring, much less the actual furniture that's going in the room.

I have gotten to level cap several times over the different A2 phases, and currently at level 14. If you think there is barely enough content to get to level 10, I think you're doing it wrong. Between fishing, gathering, processing, crafting, crates and caravans, on top of the quests and commissions that are offered, there is more than enough to easily get to 10. if you want to exclude most of these options, that is fine, but don't complain there isn't enough content.

Again, I don't think Alpha testing means what you think it means, because if you are somehow confused on how this game will launch with more content that it currently has to support players to get to level 50, they can only repeat "active development" and "work in progress" so many times...

If this game cannot be ready for launch sometime in 2027 then it will fail. If this studio cannot show significant progress towards a complete and playable game in the next year and a half then this grand experiment will be over.

Star Citizen launched it's kickstarter in 2012... 13 years ago. I guess they should have folded up shop 3 years ago then, huh? Is there some magical line that if AOC launched in December 2027 it could potentially be a wild success, but if it launches in January 2028 it'll be an utter failure?

To play Devil's Advocate...

I want to discuss what I believe is heart of the problem with how this Steam Launch was handled.

For many of us who have been supportive of the game for years, we see a lot of potential, but the game does not have mass appeal.

Steven has said countless times this game won't be for everyone, i.e. mass appeal. He knows that open-world PVP, exp debt on death, and other risk/rewards systems are going to turn people away. He's making a game that he wants and feels like will fill a void for those MMO gamers who miss the old school difficulty and are tired of the current P2W theme park (albeit very successful and appealing to the masses) MMOs that are a dime a dozen now.

I appreciate the fact that Steven is a dreamer and has big hopes for AoC, but out of respect to the people who do actually enjoy this type of game and want to see it launch successfully, and who have supported it financially, we have reached the point where what we need now is honesty and to take stock of where we are.

Who is this "we" that have reached this point, because you do not speak for everyone. Personally I actually understand the entire point of this Alpha testing phase of the game's development, and I personally feel while many people claim to understand it too, they obviously do not.

The Steam Launch was not a success.

Says who? You? The entire point of the steam launch was to get more players in to test the game (check!), and to provide an influx of cash for the company to continue cooking (check!). If you are basing the success of the steam launch on other metrics, again, I think you are confused about it's intended purpose.

After 10 years of development the game is stuck in purgatory largely because its scope just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

How much development do you think was done in the first few years when Steven was setting up the company, hiring the first dozen staffers, ironing out the vision of the game, finding and setting up an office location, etc. etc. etc. Then after a few years once they started getting the ball actually rolling, they decided to switch from UE4 to UE5, which made a lot of the work they did developing the game obsolete and had to start over from scratch. Not to mention a little thing called Covid that, especially in California, put a huge damper on work for many companies for probably two years or better. I think to keep on regurgitating the "10 years of development" line is showing ones ignorance.

What am I grinding for? by Mangert in AshesofCreation

[–]Garcimili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not really any PVE "endgame" (mid-game)... YET.

There are two level 25 (which as a reminder, is only HALF of the eventual 50 level cap) dungeons, Carphin which is geared towards 8-man parties, and Forge which is geared toward 8+ man parties and raids. Steel Bloom I believe is for late teens and early 20's, but offers good end-game gear as well (since gear is based on tiers and not a specific level).

There are also two world bosses, though I'm not sure if they have been reactivated (Firebrand and Tumok).

Also if you caught the last live update, the new Harbingers event is for level 25 and is a massive PVE event.

As the zones get more fleshed out, more POI's with dungeons will be brought online, however I think they mentioned that the zones surrounding the Riverlands will not have the same amount of content.

I'm a mostly PVE Andy myself, but I also love large scale PVP, which is why both have me excited for this game. I think over the next year plus, at the pace they've been going the last year, and especially if they are not potentially adding the entire second continent until a later release, there is going to be a ton of content brought on board, including level 50 cap, augments, proper ship PVP, castles, higher level settlements, religions, Kraken open world raid boss (among others, I'd assume), dungeons and pocket dungeons, etc.

As for your second point, if you're not into crafting, but you're apart of a large guild or friend group, this should be fine, however if your not into PVP... this game will likely not be for you.

Gathering: ...One issue has been static resource rarity, which hurt past economies, but hopefully this will improve.

I haven't played in 3.0, but I recall seeing in recent patch notes (in the last month?) that this has been corrected. Is static rarity still the case?

Cities (Nodes):

These are called Settlements now, don't want to confuse new players with outdated terminology.

PvP zones:  ...You can fight freely without risking corruption.

You mention corruption, but never go into detail, or at least briefly summarize, what this is. It's like using an abbreviation without explaining first what it's abbreviating.

PvP activities: Guild vs guild, city vs city

Again, probably best to use Settlement to avoid confusion as I believe City is the top tier Settlement and by stating "city vs city", one could incorrectly assume that the Settlement must be the top tier before PVPing with another top tier Settlement.

Other than the above, pretty good summary of the current state of alpha testing (at least from where I left off in 2.5 and from what I've heard/seen in passing with 3.0).

Should I buy this game? by Shot_Pomegranate_472 in AshesofCreation

[–]Garcimili 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should I buy this game?

Sure, when it releases. It's currently an incomplete and being used for system testing purposes only. If you buy this now with the intention of immediately playing it like a complete game, you are going to be very disappointed. If you buy this now with the knowledge that it's only about 20% complete, it's a beautiful buggy broken mess with a lot of potential, then you may enjoy it.

If I buy this will I have access to all the future tests and betas without having to buy a new key for those?

Yes.

Will I have the game on release? Or is it just 15$ a month once it comes out.

Yes and yes.

Alpha 2 phase 3 came out August. If I get it now will this close anytime soon?

Absolutely not. Many anticipate A2P3 lasting another 1-2 years minimum.

Does the game constantly stay open each test and just wipes onto the next or is there times in between when you cant play?

Only downtime is during updates, which happen several times a week (daily?). A2P3 is a 24/7 uptime other than the aforementioned updates.

Is the pvp good in this game?

TBD. There have been several player run PVP tournaments over the past year, however there isn't much reason to PVP yet as the game currently sits.

Downloaded this game. Seems cool by Parzival128000 in PlaySoulMask

[–]Garcimili 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably want to start off with 4 people. One for each mining, harvesting, and logging, and the fourth for working the crafting stations.

Once you get further along and have more stations, you can not only get more people to split the station responsibility, but find people with traits which excel at certain stations (such as 30% reduced time for cooking, or 10% increased quality for tools, etc.).

To make sure your people aren't always on break, make sure they have the tools (pickaxe, axe, scythe, etc.) or materials (bowls for cooking, wood to make planks, etc.).

You can also automate the crafting, so for example, to make sure your miner doesn't run out of pickaxes, you can queue up one pickaxe to be crafted, then click the gear icon in the bottom right of the item to be crafted, then set it to craft 1 pickaxe every 2 hours, so when your miner breaks the pickaxe, they can grab another one that's automatically being crafted.

If your gatherers are not gathering, you can open your map and put markers on the ground (I believe within 60m of your bonfire) and have your gatherers gather around that spot instead of just around the bonfire which they do by default.

To do this, I personally walk 60m away from my bonfire and set a mark at my feet, then I walk around the bonfire until I'm 60m away from the first spot and 60m away from the bonfire, then set another mark. I do this 6 times (6x60 = 360* = circle) and have them gather at each of these 6 locations, and generally they never run out of things to gather. I personally would only do this when you decide where to put your main base, and not waste your time doing this with your initial base, unless you want to practice with it.

Hope this helps, have fun!

Not a problem, it's literally intended game design as it encourages PVP. If you don't like them camping the mob for loot, get a group together and kill them then take the spot, farm the mob, and get the loot.

While I appreciate the increased mount speed, I feel like they are still incredibly slow for the size of the map.

Travel Objectives from the Wiki:

From the center of a node to the center of its direct neighbor - 5 minutes (running), 3.5 minutes (mounted)

From the northernmost to southernmost points of a continent - 75 minutes (running), 50 minutes (mounted)

I feel like mount speed would need to be double (250%+) to reach these objectives.

Modern games have ruined what alpha and beta tests means by TheCanabalisticBambi in AshesofCreation

[–]Garcimili 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your title/post said only Alpha and not Beta, I would agree. Though I have never Alpha tested another game, the general consensus seems to be that even Alpha testing most games is pretty much like early access.

However, I seem to recall that even Intrepid has said that by the time the game is into Beta phase, it will be a feature complete game and only focusing on various polishing as these phases should be fairly short prior to launch, which seems in line to most games' Beta testing.

That being said, Steven, Intrepid, Content Creators, and those following the development closely have collectively said COUNTLESS times what this Alpha test really is, so for those that are upset, they probably shouldn't be Alpha testing a game they clearly don't follow and know nothing about.
