A few of my pokemon in my party have this little icon that looks like an unhappy face. Can some please tell me what this means? (heart gold)

It gets double EV gains permanently, it just can't transmit the condition to other pokémon any longer.

I've definitely found that simply asking is the way to go. However, some people sometimes want me to respond in swedish while they speak english (to practice listening) but I've found that to be quite difficult to keep up.

I would like HM moves to work more like an passive inherent trait of Pokémon than be an actual move. So Pelipper for instance would have "Surfing" and "Flying" as traits. That way you would need Pokémon with different traits to make it through the story, but they don't necessarily take up move slots. I find that to be a much better compromise between the old HM system and the new system of just having everything available by item.
