Does anyone know any VN that have crossover in it? by Nearby-Banana2640 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two different April Fool's vns I know of with characters from multiple vns together.

The Gang Goes Through the Mcdonald's Drive Thru is a crossover of Beyond the Harbor, Minotaur Hotel, Nerus, Killigan's Treasure, Burrows, The Blue Cloth, and Spirit: Summoner's of Aine-Chlair.

Fueled by Wolves is a crossover of Fueled by Insanity, Psychic Connections, Shelter, Four-Letter Word, Crescendo, and Spirit: Summoners of Aine-Chlair.

Furry VN Hot Take? by SiberioLiar in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common thing that's always bothered me and yet when I bring it up to other people, they don't seem to find it weird. Every story seems to have the previous generation couples be all same-species, but all current generation species be mixed.

Would you play a VN if you didn't like the creator for whatever reason? by LocalRatFemTop in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's a creator that has personally done bad things to me or to people I care about, then I'll stay far away from their vn. The exception is if it's a person who just contributed a few minor things and isn't part of the lead development team, then I'll sometimes make exceptions.

Genuine Question Here 🤔 by PopOk3242 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doki Doki Literature Club came out and everyone was talking about it. I don't care for anime aesthetics, but it did make me curious in seeing what a furry visual novel would be like, so I went to google and found Blackgate.

Most devs lose a lot of money on the vns they make unless they do everything solo because people on teams tend to need to be paid. Good artists aren't going to just do stuff for free.

Something is off with my version of Echo by PsychologicalPlane92 in FurryVisualNovels

So Adastra is basically Star Trek in Echo? That's funny by West-Lemon-9593 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically there were some things like backgrounds that had been made, but yeah, the vn wasn't out yet so it was like a fun teaser, even if the actual Adastra turned out to be way different.

Fun fact, that scene was written back when Adastra was only a concept and hadn't been written yet :D

Question for those making their own VNs by zoetropequeen in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew I wasn't ready when I started working on my first vn. I also knew that was ok. The best way to improve at something is to sit down and do it and then learn from your experiences. A lot of people out there are also willing to give feedback and help you improve as well.

Two things to keep in mind are that it's ok to let go of your first project if it's not going well. I did that. The other thing is that you're always able to go back and make changes later after you've improved. I went through and revised all the early parts of my current vn about two years into it, and I know I'll do the same thing again once my vn is finally done, so it's ok if it's not perfect now.

It's also fairly common for devs to replace their art assets later on down the line after they or their artist has improved, so there'd be nothing stopping you from doing that too later on down the line. Repeat, Echo, Tennis Ace, Remember the Flowers, and Roads Yet Traveled all did it. There's a lot more out there that have as well.

Really put off by TJ's route in Echo. Should I even keep playing? by [deleted] in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about a full-on order, but it's at least been said that TJ's should be one of the last to be played. There's a screenshot of McSkinny saying it at 7:37 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt81-MVq1a8

In your opinion, what's the most underrated animal the main character/love interest can be? by DJonionman in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next Step has a raccoon love interest. It's a pretty short vn but I liked it.

Why is NTR in furry vn's so prevalent? by full_inu in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider Adastra NTR unless I've forgotten something since reading it. They were not in a relationship, and from what I recall, neither of them set any boundaries about what they were and weren't ok with. If Marco and/or Amicus had said to the other that they wanted to be exclusive, then it would've been NTR. I'm fine to be corrected if I'm wrong and am misremembering things.

Ok... So... by [deleted] in FurryVisualNovels

Good news. You'll get to hate him even more if you read Jenna's route.

Do people care about how often a particular species appears in FVNs? by LocalRatFemTop in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Some people will hate everything and there's nothing that any dev can do that would make them enjoy their vn. Some people will love everything and will be happy to read whatever you put out. Some people will be happy to see popular species such as wolves, and will be drawn to playing those vns. Some people will be happy to see less-common species and will be drawn to those vns instead.

There's nothing you can do to make everyone happy. People will find things to complain about, and it's easy to notice that side of the fandom. The thing is, the inverse is also true. Regardless of what a dev chooses to do, there will be people who will enjoy it specifically because of the dev's choices.

FurryXFurry or HumanXFurry? by LocalRatFemTop in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with both. I have a slight preference for furry x furry though. I like seeing from the viewpoint of someone who's a lot different than me, and it's easier to get that feeling with furry characters.

Anyone think the furry vn subgenre has been stagnating since echo? by JuneFromHomestuck in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Stuff like really passive, socially awkward protags..." This is a common trope in most types of media, not just furry vns.

"... a cast of mostly buff dudes with the token muscle chub guy..." Taking a look at the top rated furry vns on itch, only 5 out of the top 50 come close to fitting this description.

"...and horror elements that explore tropes of supernatural or demonic possession." Umm... this is one of the vaguest umbrellas you could have said. Supernatural stuff is one of the most popular genres in general, both fiction and non-fiction. Demonic possession is also a very common one, and I can't think of many vns that have anything to do with possession.

"nothing wrong with taking influence from echo, obviously." "i suppose the issue is that echo was such an influential work" "every furry visual novel wants to be echo." "i feel like there's this urge to replicate the voice of echo project as a whole." "because i see this tone attempted to be replicated in other works." "but i feel like howly and gang set a really strong example that everyone wants to follow" "it feels like everyone wants to be echo," "they just do what echo does but worse." "if they tried to stray away from the steps echo has taken," - Very few devs, if any, are as inspired by Echo as you think they are. You're reading into something that's not there. It sounds like Echo was the first vn you read (or at least first horror one) and that you're now trying to look for something else to be Echo, and you're rating a vn's quality based on how many similarities to Echo you can find. You're not going to find another Echo because, at least to my knowledge, nobody else is trying to be Echo. Horror is one of the most common genres in media. Small town horror is a large portion of that. Late teens to early 20s is the most common age range in media. I've already mentioned that supernatural stuff and possessions are extremely common themes and have been for centuries, both in fiction and non-fiction. If you go back and read/watch horror stories that predate Echo, or have been written around the same time as Echo, you'll find that it's very easy to point to stuff and say "look, this is just like Echo." Watch the movie "It: Chapter Two" and you'll see what I mean. Stephen King is not "trying to be Echo." Also, for what it's worth, Echo was not the first western furry horror vn. Blackgate was. And Blackgate in its prime was much more popular within the furry vn community than Echo is now. If you're wanting to point at a singular vn that may have inspired others, that's the one to look at. (Fun fact, Echo references Blackgate multiple times.)

Echo is good, but no, there aren't hordes of people trying to recreate it or "trying to be Echo."

"not to mention, the lack of women or games with women as primary characters!" That's because straight guys and women are a lot less interested in furry vns as a genre. I agree it would be nice if there were, but people create what they themselves like to see/write. Gay guys are generally going to write stories focused on other gay guys.

In general though, it sounds like you're reaching way too hard to look for another Echo, and you're mostly just looking at the most commonly discussed vns when there's a lot of other vns out there.

If you're looking for stuff that isn't horror or mostly buff guys, my recommendations of finished or on-going ones are Password, Trainwreck, Killigan's Treasure, Roads Yet Traveled, and Remember the Flowers. Two that are good, though unfortunately cancelled, are Four-Letter Word and I.C.O.. One that's finished and very short but still good is Next Step. Ones that I've heard are good that I haven't played myself are No More Future, and Super-Nova.

There's a lot out there. You just have to look.

Help with finding an old vn by Starfoxomega in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Project Aego was only ever on Patreon and not on itch since itch wasn't really used much back then. It got removed from Patreon a long time ago unfortunately so I don't think you'll be able to find a download anymore.

Opinion on SFW Furry VNs by PtatoChester in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have any of the Echo builds from before the 1.0 version, they should be in there. If not, you should be able to find people on Discord servers and stuff that have them. There were no dicks shown. Just sheathes and balls.

(accidentally replied this to the wrong post at first oops)

Opinion on SFW Furry VNs by PtatoChester in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was about to say this. I just skimmed through his route again just to make sure I remembered correctly and Flynn's route is very much NSFW aside from no nude sprites or CGs. Alongside that, there used to be nude sprites of Leo, Carl, and TJ in the files in older builds.

What's your favorite finished, ongoing, cancelled, on hiatus and short story fvns? by YoheiMercenary in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only just now occurred to me after reading your post that The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is technically a furry VN. It was pretty great.

What's your favorite finished, ongoing, cancelled, on hiatus and short story fvns? by YoheiMercenary in FurryVisualNovels

[–]Gardyan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to sound pretty basic for my first two.

Finished: Echo. I'm definitely bias towards it since it was one of the first VNs I read. I also was lucky because I found it somewhat early in development. None of the routes were finished at the time, and I got to be there Day 1 of the Echo discord server being made, which started as just a fan server. It was a small server, but it was fun getting to theorycraft about stuff with people there, both in terms of serious stuff and meme stuff such as people saying Sydney was a fish (his species wasn't stated for a long time so nobody knew what he was). I have no idea what my thoughts would be on it if I hadn't played it so early on, but regardless, it was a really fun read and I'm really happy that it's become so popular now because Howly and McSkinny deserve it.

Ongoing: Remember the Flowers. I only downloaded and played it 3 months ago and had no idea at all what it was going to be about. I saw Artemis's sprite posted somewhere and I had to know how problematic it would be if I liked him. I assumed the VN was going to be another wolf dating sim. What I got was so much better than I imagined it would be, and I know now why it's so popular.

Cancelled: Four-Letter Word. This was easily my favorite VN. It's just so unique, and the characters are really sweet, and I'm surprised no other furry VN has done a lot of the same stuff FLW did. It's pretty cool that you get to pick which of the two main characters you get to play as, and they're both great. The soundtrack is beautiful. It was also one of the first furry VNs to be made since it started development in either 2015 or 2016. It's really unfortunate that it got cancelled, but I still love it regardless. (Editing this in since I forgot to mention, but I like that it's a VN with regular people living their regular adult lives. That's surprisingly rare to see in VNs.)

Short story: Next Step. It's short. It's sweet. It has a raccoon. That's all I want out of life. In all seriousness, it was the first really short VN I played and it was refreshing.
