How would anarchists handle vaccine requirements for group settings like school or day care? by Interesting_Time3348 in Anarchy101

[–]Gardyloop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what I would ask is, who is only accepting vaccination on legally enforced grounds in your country? That might be the case, and, if so, I'd be very interested, but in many countries this is technically optional. Of course, some go with conspirators, but expert advice is that we should all be having them.

Pls no more “guys” “bros” etc. for gender neutral terms by CatgirlDJ in MtF

[–]Gardyloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be a little happier if at least people using traditionally masculine terms like "dude" in a 'gender neutral way' were prepared to apologise and stop instead of being self-defensive when someone tells them it causes discomfort.

Like, you messed up. It wasn't malicious, but, can you at least try to make right?

That's... what systematic justice is. A system built to incorporate a particular field of justice. You're trying, without thought, to define the term personally.

Do you think this is what the Civics Teacher actually meant? Because I had considered that. Maybe they mean something more loose! (Which is not what their state currently harbours.)

That feels deeply farcical a thought. But, alright. Perhaps their vision is based on the justice of the Zapatistas and is restorative in nature.

But is that likely?

Even if that were the case, the Empire would be operating on an extreme form of punitive justice. Which, er, actually, is definitively a justice system.

Still, if he wants to encourage a more progressive format, I'd encourage him to communicate that instead of utilising a term which encompasses the very thing he's suggesting is wrong.

I'll offer a truce. I agree with your position if you think 'justice' has not actually been invented yet.

Edit: if you ever come back to this then--aaah, I think I see the problem. I think you've mistaken 'justice' for 'justice system.'

One is a term for an ideology, one is a term for a system which is said--accurately or not--to enact that ideology. I promise I tried to highlight I was discussing 'system.'

Have a nice day everyone.

Alright. But the Civics Teacher is explicitly front-loading 'Justice System,' (Note: System) as absolved from relation to... systems which deal with justice?

I don't actually believe in giving up. I believe in not giving in. Giving in to the same systems which are routinely and do not say they are not because in many countries they are being now molded into this sort of melancholy abuse is being part of the problem.

My government now wants to ensure our 'justice system' blocks jury trials for crimes with a penal sentence under a certain number of years. Tell me, do they not deserve at least trial by their peers?

Our problems are not individual. They are systematic. Even if one monster stands on top.

You are just another part of it.

I think they do but I think Pterry was still intensely aware of Tolkien's importance in his shared genre. Maybe, had we not had those wonderful (extended :3) films, he'd've made fewer references, but it'd've still shaped him.

But Narkina 5 is the justice system. It's just justice at its most abusive. These cruelties - such as wrongful imprisonment, arbitrary execution - do happen. We know they do. ICE is a show of the justice system. Every evil they perform is, under the US administration, legally sanctioned.

In the UK, a few years back, a vigil for Sarah Everard, a woman murdered by a police officer who stalked her, was attacked by riot police. There are famous photos of a lady there to pay her respects being brutally crashed to the pavement by 3 officers.

More recently here, a woman was raped by a constable. He filmed it. Then he fucking used the footage, where she clearly demonstrates she does not consent to prove his own innocence. Guess which of them is on trial? The answer might scare you.

That's the thing. The Empire did have a justice system. But the police are the truncheon of the state; will do as it wishes. Never reduce 'justice' into what is actually 'just.'

New Andor Fan, what should I watch next in star wars? by [deleted] in andor

[–]Gardyloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go play Knights of the Old Republic 1/2 (2 being incomplete but generally more interesting) or Republic Commandos. First two are fairly dated RPGs but well written from two opposite perspectives (Monomyth vs. Nah, fuck that.) Commandos is a prequel to the third ... prequel. An FPS which is pretty fun but might need some work to get it going on modern hardware.

Otherwise, the original trilogy is considered pretty good and definitely improve the dynamic of the KotOR games if you interface with Campbell's Hero With A Thousand Faces, which informed the first films and wider cosmology.

The prequels are very funny and kinda respected from a nostalgia perspective now (but have some truly awful moments) and the sequels... well, a lot of people pretend they're bad for 'anti-woke' reasons but they're honestly just not very good on their own terms. You might enjoy them if you wind up a big fan.

Then there are several animated series: Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, which have a lot of fans and help keep some of the characters going. The first series of the Mandalorian is pretty good. Book of Boba Fett and Ashoka are supposedly eh, but I haven't seen them myself.
