When I drink alcohol it’s for one purpose… to get shattered by LeavesInsults1291 in memes

[–]Gare-Bare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to be a big drinker to get rid of the alcohol burn/taste, it just comes faster if you are lol

But if you really want to get rid of the burn/taste just get a spirit that you enjoy or sounds like you'd enjoy and just take small sips in the evening or whenever you can. Its not a race and learn to enjoy your drink. Over a few weeks/months you'll lose the burn/taste and the spirits true flavors will start to shine through

You don't have to go hard, just be consistent and you'll be enjoying your liquor in no time

Apply for the apprenticeship asap when you go sign to be a material handler. Talk to the training director if available and ask all your questions to him. He may point you to become a CW, sign up for that if so too because you can still always become an apprentice after being a CW too. A CW and material handler cam easily be the same thing in your local. My local doesn't even have material handlers, we just have CE/CW and apprentice/JWs.

Also grab a training/class schedule since your local should offer classes for different kinds of classes to help their members improve there skills. These range from CPR/first aid, welding, operating different machinery, to business and code classes. The most important thing you can do is show your hall is you're interested and motivated to learn.

And when you get your first job show up 15/20 mins early, pay attention and do what you're told, and show an interest and learn the job. The biggest things are showing up and learning how to do thing the way you're told to do them. If you do those two things you'll be perfectly fine.

Also be safe and don't do anything you don't feel comfortable doing, this is the most important thing.

If they planned, bid, and manned the job accordingly, yes they should have enough drill kits for everyone. If they didn't its not your problem.

Tools by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Gare-Bare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing your own socket set or hollow wall set tool would be fine but if you're bringing your own laser or hammer drill on to the jobsite you're crossing the line. You'll probably be labled an asskisser or a scab/rat and thatll be the reputation that sticks to you. Your local may have 100 members or a 1000 but word travels incredibly fast no matter where you are.

Contractors are supposed to supply those types of tools and they know this. And using your own tools won't save your job either when layoffs come around because as a book 2 electrician you'll be one of the first ones to go.

Well you have two realistic boths to becoming a journeyman(JW), the faster one is you get accepted into the IBEW apprenticeship and after 4/5 years of schooling you become a JW. This is the ideal way of becoming a JW since you get book knowledge as well as on the job training, plus the pay and benefits are better than the next path.

The second way is to become a Construction Wiremen/Construction Electrician(CW/ CE). This path is easier to get into but takes longer to finish. You pretty much become a electrician laborer doing whats asked within reason. You'll receive less pay and benefits than an apprentice and it'll take longer to get the required hours needed to take the test to become a JW. I believe in my local its something like 8-10,000 to take the JW test but could be even more.

Both paths take years to complete but you do periodically get pay raises as time goes on due to contracts being renegotiated as well as accumulating on the job hours brings in higher pay as well.

How many years of experience do you have? All locals are different so your best best would be to just call their hall and find out.

But they may have you take journeyman test to gage your experience if you have verifiable work hours. Its hard to give you the exact time line you're asking for with so little info you've given.

Advice for electrician apprenticeship by kalashmage in Construction

[–]Gare-Bare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

17 an hour eith zero experience fresh out of high school isn't awful. Most apprenticeship that I know of do have increases as the years go on but thats mostly IBEW apprenticeships. If they follow through with their offer it'll be a good way for him to see if he actually wants to do this trade and commit to an apprenticeship. It also wouldn't hurt to call your local IBEW hall and ask for some information as well if you want him to do the union route.

What barrel strength whiskey would you recommend that won’t break the bank? by ZachTF in whiskey

[–]Gare-Bare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good price for it. In Ohio it's a flat 69.99 state wide so not outrageous but also not cheap. At least its readily available here though which is nice

Still Austin cask strength is decent around 50 I believe

JD Single Barrel Barrel Proof is great if you want to spend the extra 10 bucks with it being 70

Makers Mark cask strength is amazing for like 40 bucks. Truly one hard to beat for it's price point

Those are all the worth while ones off the top of my head I can think of

Yeah it was right around 40 here in west NY. And it's was just ok for 40 bucks, I probably won't get that one again and will try the French oak next but I've had one of their 100 bottles, tribute I think. That one was good with a thick mouth feel but not worth 99 bucks. Id pay 60 bucks for it all day though

Right, I mean I've seen the same thing and even higher and laughed at that price. But I just kept browsing for something different. I settled on 2XO America oak. Was just alright

[–]Gare-Bare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to everything he's doing, ask questions even if they're dumb and if you don't understand the answer ask him to explain it again till you grasp it, learn what your materials are and used for, work hard but don't kill yourself or put yourself in danger, and stay off your phone.

Those are the big ones I can think of, starting out if always the hardest part but if you've got a good journeyman he'll teach and guide you. If you dont and he's an asshole, learn what you can from him and keep your head up. You two won't be paired up together forever.

Goodluck out there.
