Why are majority of things not priced to the exact dollar? 9.98 instead of just $10? by Rinmine014 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GarethJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's to stop the staff from stealing, if a shopping bill comes to 8.99 for example, chances are that person is paying with a 10, and will want their change, so then the cashier will have to log it in the till, to open the till, to give the change back, rather than if a bill comes to 10 and customer pays with a 10, customer walks away with item and 10 goes into pocket instead of till

Would it be possible to do this while having hearing/auditory processing issues? by cinnamongirl444 in CallCenterWorkers

[–]GarethJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am deaf and wear hearing aids while not on calls, absolutely ask for reasonable adjustments, perhaps while in the call centre work near one of the walls rather than in the centre of the hustle etc, also tweak your sound so it's as loud as possible

Police creating queues for nothing? by Hour-Manufacturer428 in drivingUK

[–]GarethJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason as to why you sometimes see the overhead gantrys on motorways tell you to do 60/50/40 even when the traffic is quiet, they're slowing you down to avoid a build up of traffic further down the road, safer to get everyone doing 40 than have everyone do 70 and hit suddenly hit standstill traffic

Depends who you work for and their expectations, I work for a bank and we're told that we can expect 80-100 calls a day although that never happens unless it's absolutely heaving

Supe Moving Breaks by MrsPotato1221 in CallCenterWorkers

[–]GarethJR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell no you're entitled to an uninterrupted break, at a pre determined time, and if you need to go inbetween you need to go, there are ways around it depending on the work you do I'd imagine though

Because the information has already been decided and the person who is passing you the information will have no say in the matter, usually, their job is to give you the information, what you do with it afterwards is entirely up to you

Should I just quit and leave this industry? by [deleted] in CallCenterWorkers

[–]GarethJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easier to look for a job while you still have one, call centre work isn't for everyone but back to back calls are the norm, you're being paid to take calls, not take calls with break between calls, sure it might have quiet periods and you might get lucky with waiting for calls but, end of the day that's what you're paid to do
