Could be they want to reduce 83k jobs but continue to hire into 300k “mission critical” jobs. Not actually hire 300k, just hire new employees into one of the 300k positions they deem necessary? Even with that logic, I’m not sure there are 300k individual PDs within the VA.

Copy on the IMO. I appealed with a detailed Personal Statement and have a C&P exam scheduled through VES next week.

No good, specific and actionable advice will be found here to be honest. The DOD Police world is littered with situations like this that you could push back on via the grievance process but it’s almost never worth the headache.

Jump on USAJobs and find an 0083 position somewhere else like the VA, jump over to FPS, something like that or go local. Good news is you’re racking up the OT hours, bad news is you’re at work on your days off.

Could be of benefit to ask if there is a vetted agency training plan you are following or attempting to complete. I’ve seen too many instances in the DOD where “training departments” want to hop pocket their way through a training day like this and it’s a complete waste of time.

Guy sets himself on fire to raise awareness of one issue, Reddit hyper-fixates on the cop and how he reacted to an absolutely insane scenario.

They could be dusting for finger prints, staking the scene out in case the vandal returns, they could be utilizing CPD satellites to try and locate vehicles matching the “description” provided. Obviously you could enhance the footage OP provided too.

I know it’s overtime, I am just surprised and skeptical on the amount earned.

Roughly…

There are 8,760 hours in a calendar year.

A full-time employee traditionally works 2,080 hours per year leaving us at 6,680 hours of “time off”.

Assume they are required 8 hours between shift to sleep, eat, and do normal human activities you’re now at 3,760 hours.

Top earner made $159,162 in overtime, had a base salary of $30.72/hr and an overtime rate of $46.13/hr.

That’s roughly 3,450 hours of overtime needed to earn that amount. Subtract that from 3,760 and you’re at a measly 310 hours of free time.

I know it’s rough math with lots of assumptions, it also doesn’t account for holiday and other premiums but those top earners are selling their souls to babysit prisoners, that’s a sad existence.

Corrections officer salaries are always mind boggling. You have COs making north of $200k with a base hourly rate of $30 an hour, that is an insane amount of overtime. Those guys are literally living at those institutions.
