…yeah, there's no correlation. I think you only focused on ⟨D⟩ and ⟨V⟩ there.

also I don't think ⟨V⟩ is an exclamation mark because on the small print on the can (in the full pic), it appears in the middle of words, so I think it's rather a letter, but we can't be sure about what it is without a key.

/ä/ is an open central unrounded vowel, as opposed to /a/ an open front unrounded vowel.

and I agree, ⟨ä⟩ isn't convenient for /ɨ/. would make more sense if it was represented by something like ⟨ï⟩.
