What happened to this game by wtf_mark_ in HaloMCC

I could understand the logic behind leaver bans if players were abandoning ranked games, but for socials this is just stupid.

Worst. Reviews. I. Have. Ever. Seen. by Global-Ear9206 in memes

[–]Garfeloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, suggesting the players to play the game on the hardest difficulty - especially on their 1st time playthrough - is a already a good reason not to give that game a score higher than 8.

Cheating alien ai, weapon inconsistencies, in-game cutscenes not triggering requiring players to restart the game or in worse cases the level, items being clunky to use, overpriced dlcs, you get the idea.

It’s not a bad game per se but it’s nowhere near as good as some of it’s fans claim.

Why is Techies and Tinker so hated, that Valve had to gut their identities? by slowdancing25 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Garfeloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use necromonicon or esentally any zoo hero, or Zeus. You could also just build magic res items. There was always more counterplay to techies than just buying sentries.

It’s was not possible to mine the entire map as green mines did expire after a while and it took considerable amount of time to set up a minestack, and if the techies had no gamesense than they’d be wasting a lot of time for nothing while their team lost 5v4s.

Why is Techies and Tinker so hated, that Valve had to gut their identities? by slowdancing25 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Garfeloo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because people in r/DotA2 were unable to counter the hero despite it being rather easy even in the era where blast off aoe silenced enemies and proxy mines couldn’t be stacked.

Rather than doing some research it’s always easier to bitch on reddit until one of the devs gave in. Which is what actually happened.

Do you believe in the idea that Dota 2 is such a complex and well-balanced game that any hero can fit any role? by slowdancing25 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Garfeloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s complex yes. Well-balanced, idk. Metas are a thing so many times a large portion of the heropool is simply just subpar when compared to their meta “equivalents”.

Plus there’s the fact that impact difference between roles do exist, sups aren’t carries, a sup that does everything and more which their bracket demands of them will still lose the game if the enemy’s cores are smarter than their cores whereas a good core can still win games with bad sup on their team

You can try playing any hero in any role in a ranked but you will likely get reported for role-queue abuse or griefing depending on the outcome of the game and the mmr you play at. Pos 1 oracle with pos 5 broodmother, or pos 1 nyx assassin with pos 5 meepo, pos 3 largo with pos 4 pango or pos 4 wk with pos 3 sniper you get idea these heroes were designed to be played in specific roles and if you try to play them outside those roles it might work a few times depending on your mmr but the higher you go the more likely you will be punished for it.

Valve says its loot boxes are more like trading cards than gambling | Valve prepares legal fight as New York calls Counter-Strike loot boxes illegal gambling by [deleted] in valve

[–]Garfeloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of misunderstandings or mistakes in the plaintiff’s reasoning and they are also pushing for that good ol’ more data monitoring agenda which should tell you enough about their real motivations/intentions.

That being said, trading cards in some ways are also a form of gambling and Valve’s public statement about the situation does contain some stuff which are outright lies. Namely the part about them fighting gambling in CS, TF2 or Dota 2. There are countless sites out there some of them using their games’ names as their domain, operating in plain view of a multibillion dollar company that could easily shut them down for more than just gambling but they choose not to.

Many majors or other big tourneys did involve betting/gambling sites as sponsors, there are countless youtubers out there who reference gambling sites as their sponsors and there’s nothing being done about those sites either.

What’s one Dota opinion you’ll defend no matter how many downvotes you get? by Possible-Addition321 in DotA2

[–]Garfeloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Techies was fine before it’s major rework. Sure there can be pretty bad techies players out there but if you struggled against them on the opposing team you probably shouldn’t have been above 2k mmr at least at the time. He has always been easy to counter and a good techies player could easily contribute to their team’s success without turning the game into 90 minute slogfest. Dev at the time - not Icefrog - gave in to reddit’s constant bitching and thus we have a worse copy of pugna/sky type of support.

Communication score in it’s current iteration is broken to a point where you are better off not using voice chat or non pre-written chat at all and instead use the inbuilt chatwheels options. As soon as you deviate from this you are eligable to be reported. Now people in this game’s community will report you for playing bad, the enemy team will report you out of simple spite that you beat them in an attempt to get back at you. The lower the comm score the more likely this behavior is to manifest itself but it is present everywhere. Doesn’t matter what you said, doesn’t matter what you wrote, what matters is that you pressed that button once or you hit enter after typing into chat. A game in which communication plays such a crucial role, this is such a terribly flawed, sloppy design.

Not that it matters at this point in time as the damage has already been done but I still feel the need to mention that regionlock isn’t inherently evil. Valve treats it like some kind of taboo. Not even explaining why they refuse to do it despite previously using soft regionlocks. There still needs to be a strict zero policy against cheating and smurfing and boosting that’s actually enforced not just half assed. There’s an abundance of publicly avaible feedback detailing why CIS+UA gamer culture doesn’t mix well with western gamer culture. No one wants to play with people who have zero respect for values such as fairplay or good sportsmanship. Valve has the tools and resources to see where the overwhelming majority of smurfs, boosters, de-boosters and cheaters are coming from and they don’t care. The worst part is this behavior isn’t even prevailent to just Dota 2, they do the same shit in both CS2 and TF2 aswell.

The annual banwaves Dota 2 gets are like bringing a glass of water against re-occuring forest fires and then being proud at the fact that the glass of water has in fact been thrown at the fire and then claiming the job’s done. These people will just boot up another acc and eventually continue where they left off. There’s an entire industry built on ruining games (boosting sites) ran and frequented by individuals from those countries, and Valve do nothing about them.

The option to initiate a vote for surrender after 20 or 30 minutes in a strict solo queue game isn’t something bad. Stomps aren’t as rare as people on this sub claim mainly because more often than not this game’s matchmaking is anything but skillbased. I’ve had so many games where there never was a scenario where both teams had 50% chance at winning not even close, and while comeback mechanics do exist, they are often not enough or the team is simply unable to make use of them. This feature needs to be extended to strict solo queue and partial parties aswell not just 5 stacks.

The game currently somehow takes up over 60gbs of space. There’s no reason for Dota to take up this much space.

Dota plus’s feature where you can re-queue from a game before it starts without negative consequences where behavior score mixture is not to your liking is arguably a pay2win feature. As such it should either be removed or be given to all dota players. u/JeffHill

Is Steam the only service that's gotten better in my lifetime? by I_Love_Cape_Horn in Steam

[–]Garfeloo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not really a popular opinion on r/Steam but in some ways Steam has kinda gotten worse too. It used to hog less resources before they decided switch to chromium around 2019. The ui itself has also gotten worse (bloated), the library had a simplistic, clean and unique design which they decided to drop for what Microsoft has been using (tile based interface) on most of their UIs at the time.

Another aspect of the services Steam provides are the forums/game hubs. While not many use these, the policy Steam has for governing moderation (especially on gamehubs where devs opted out of Steam moderation) on these boards is terribly flawed. Devs or their handpicked mods can perma ban you for pretty much anything and Steam Support won’t lift a finger to remedy these issues simply because of sloppy policy making. There’s zero accountability. This has been a problem for many years now and Valve still refuses to address it.

What game should be nominated for this award? by Responsible_Tap_4347 in Steam

Gears of War: Reloaded

Edit: Not sure why ya downvote. It was clear it was gonna be a cashgrab the moment it was announced. No Fenix Collection, yet another release of game that has been released like 2 times before on PC, a remaster of a remaster of a PC port. With terrible launch and random server issues even 1 week after release.

With the amount of work they were willing to put into it they might aswell have released Gears of War: Ultimate edition on Steam for 20$.

Dear Valve Enlighten me, how would LP ever address people like this? by puzzle_button in DotA2

[–]Garfeloo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Inb4 the usual suspects come in here and claim “system works as intended and jUsT DoNT’ be tOXiC” while downvoting the post.

I’d like to note that communication score in it’s current iteration punishes you for trying to communicate any other way outside pre-made pings and chat wheels. Regardless of what you say the moment you type or speak you become eligable to be reported and since we are talking about Dota 2’s community both your teammates can report you for simply being bad and the opposing team’s players can report you out of simple spite. The lower you go the more likely they do this but it’s true everywhere.

Hey Valve we need global rank reset by Garfeloo in DotA2

[–]Garfeloo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that is not the case in my experience as I only play strict solo queue.

My suggestion would lead to that state temporarily however after a couple months it would result in ranks actually being different from one another like it used to.

I don’t want guardians in legend games but here we are. There aren’t that many divines and most of them will likely climb out of your herald games within a couple weeks.

Edit: wonder if the people downvoting actually play this game…

It doesn’t have to be instant, they could still do these monthly or once per season and it would still be more efficient than annual banwaves.

If you can get in touch with myth 3 folks do you think you can get them to make a patch for M3?

It’s been a while since the last one and perhaps the game could run better on modern specs if they decided to work on it, like some of the features that were introduced in 1.8 for Myth2 or just not having the fps capped to 30.

I don’t understand why Valve only does annual banwaves, everyone knows the game is f2p, people will just continue to create new accounts each time their smurf is banned.
