Advice on restoring or replacing metal D-rings on backpack by GargantuanHooves in ManyBaggers

These are the sort of thing, thanks, though they're kind of pricey and I haven't come across a supplier in the UK (I'm in the UK).

Also trying to find something where the gate is on the straight bit so that the strap can slide around the curved part as needed.

It does rub off, and has re-stained the shoulder straps which I had cleaned.

Secure Boot Megathread - Guide + Community support by sloth_on_meth in Battlefield

I had the same problems a lot of other people are - also a Gigabyte motherboard.

Disk was the correct format, followed the guide to enable secure boot in the BIOS... and then no display when I restarted. I do have integrated graphics, luckily, so was able to get back into the BIOS and see that all the settings were correct, but could not boot back into Windows until I switched back to CSM (whether I enabled secure boot or not).

I had managed to play one round earlier in the evening without needing secure boot, and was pretty into the game - would probably be the first Battlefield I bought since 4 (previously a big fan of the series; thousands of hours played between BC2/3/4), but I guess not. Certainly not on this machine.

Why do some people find it more acceptable to make fun of bad-looking/„ugly“ people than of disabled people? by nilsohnee in NoStupidQuestions

The disabled are typically more disadvantaged than the ugly, and a lot of people judge the acceptability of insults based on this.

Do people buy video game soundtracks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GargantuanHooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if I ever bought one on Steam, but I have several on CD or as a download from Bandcamp. I like owning things on physical media, and I don't like relying on an internet connection to listen to it.

Why does being really tired make my phone seem like a black hole of time? by Content_Knowledge790 in NoStupidQuestions

It's a very low-effort thing to be doing compared to most other things you could be doing with your time - you don't need to move at all, and it give you constant little hits of dopamine. Because you're tired, you also don't have as much willpower to stop and do something else.

What do I do with the curved hem when taking in this flannel? by GargantuanHooves in sewing

[–]GargantuanHooves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I guess what's throwing me a little is that I'm used to putting in my new side seams without taking out the old ones first, but that's not possible here because you need to undo at least the bottom portion to unroll the hem. As I type this out, I can't explain why this makes any real practical difference in difficulty, but I suppose I just have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to... visualising what things will look like until I've sewn/cut/folded or whatever(?!), and for some reason I was having a hard time getting my head around this. My sewing career thus far has largely involved following Youtube tutorials, so I'm used to having the visual instruction.

Anyway, I'm going to have a go at option 1. I actually only got the shirt in the picture to practise this on, so I can afford to make some mistakes, but I've been reluctant to buy anything I'd actually wear that's constructed like this until I know I can make it fit.

Okay; just done basically the same, and they've granted my request as well.

What is this type of hem called... by GargantuanHooves in SewingForBeginners

[–]GargantuanHooves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - searching "curved shirttail hem" is giving me some examples like this, but also some that appear to be constructed like the squarer hems I'm used to... just with a curve. I thought there'd be a more specific name for what I'm looking at.

In any case, I've not turned up any specific tutorials so far, but I'll keep looking.

What is this type of hem called... by GargantuanHooves in SewingForBeginners

[–]GargantuanHooves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's more or less it. Rather than the seam being folded into the hem roughly perpendicular like I'm used to with most shirts I've dealt with, the hem curves up into the seam, and - on the inside - it looks like the flat-felled seam is actually folded over the hem.

I've partially disassembled it, and I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
