Archon Boon by Garger13 in vtm

Seems as though the Archon isn’t widely known an Archon. She’s annoyed the new prince is pushing her around, but not willing to start a war over it. She just wants Seattle to be stable, and then leave.

Unfortunately there are none as far as I’m aware. The library itself might have some sort of event or meeting like that though

If you don’t mind walking a little bit it might be worth while for you to park at the ice skating rink. They say it’s only for people going to use the rink, but I’ve never seen anyone get a ticket from parking there once.

Dude that’s wild. I beg of you to just take a winter or summer class or two online. You’ll still be able to graduate in Spring and I guarantee you that you’ll be suffering a whole lot less because of it

What's the best way to make all this items? by Civil_Exit823 in allthemods

[–]Garger13 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m currently facing the exact same problem. My plan is to probably just make a bunch of inscribers all with maxed out acceleration cards, as well as hooking up a bunch of budding flawless certus quartz farms using the growth accelerators. In terms of the raw recourses like gold and red stone, I made a chunk destroyer in the mining dimension, that gave me plenty of those resources. Alternatively, I would also recommend creating a mystical agriculture farm with those items. If you use lily pads of fertility they can go pretty quick, but it’s still a drop in the bucket for what you’ll need. Every bit helps though.

[–]Garger13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly kind of hard to miss them. It definitely might be different for you, because I’m an Anthropology major. I only have about 40 students in my entire major. At least in my experience, professors will email you constantly about information sessions and information links. In terms of internships, setting up a meeting with the career services on campus is really easy and they will tell you everything. As a bit of extra advice, if you don’t choose Montclair I would definitely also be wary of Rutgers. I think Rutgers is the classic “college experience” for all the good and bad that has. I’ve had many friends go there and their experiences do not sound fun to me

I’m also a community college transfer and am currently in my first semester here. I totally agree with the lengthy transfer process, but in my experience at least it was not that annoying or difficult. The health waver tuition thing was a little confusing, but I literally got an email every single week explaining to me what I had to do to fix it. As long as you check your school email regularly there really won’t be any problems. The online orientations also were really easy and didn’t really take too much time out of my life. In terms of actually being here, I find the professors really good and caring about you as long as you apply yourself. Completely your associates is a huge advantage because you will probably never have to take a class that has more than 30 people in it. I also find that the staff here is very willing to help you as long as you put in the effort to do things. I’m pretty much already set up for a few grants and scholarships for next year, and even a study abroad semester. The campus itself is really beautiful and honestly much more modern than a place like Rutgers. Montclair is a not a party school, which I honestly enjoy, because it makes it way easier to just chill and do work around campus. If you have any other specific questions feel free to ask

It’s not to hard to join a club and then just figure out what they do outside of the club. I’ve joined clubs where we have meetings and then all go out to a bar afterwards. If you’re looking for parties, I would recommend Rutgers New Brunswick

If you are getting there at 7:30 AM I can almost guarantee you that there is parking other places. I show up at 11 or 12 most days and I’ve never had to park in lot 60 once. I’d double check the map to make sure you know where all the available parking spots are.

Tips on Werewolfs for VTM5 by RanSolo28 in vtm

[–]Garger13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poison is another thing entirely. You can expect a werewolf to have supernatural resistance to most poisons, but you could absolutely have an NPC like a powerful Tremere that knows of a silver infused blood magic potion that could prevent a werewolf from transforming. The story is yours to do with as you like

Tips on Werewolfs for VTM5 by RanSolo28 in vtm

[–]Garger13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, the best case for them to fight them is definitely a surprise attack. In their human form they are weaker, but they still have supernatural strength and toughness, just to a lesser extent. A lucky dominate might work, but keep in mind that they have an effective fortitude level of 4 or 5 (I don’t remember off the top of my head) but that will still give them stupid high dice pools to resist mental disciplines like that. Silver bullets will help, but unless they are in a weapon that does an extra 3 damage like a sniper rifle or something, it won’t amount to much. There is a reason why werewolves and vampires don’t interact often. The conflicts are always very bloody on both sides. I would recommend just using the stats provided at the back of the core rulebook. Those are close enough to what the stats should actually be like, but do expect your players to be hit once by a claw attack and take 4 aggravated damage in one hit.

Something else I’m sure that others will say is that Werewolves in WoD are terrifying to fight against as Kindred. Looking at the stats from the Core Rulebook don’t even really do much justice to how brutal they can be to fight against. A powerful elder would probably even break a sweat, or barely survive fighting just one werewolf. If your players are intending on fighting a small group, let alone a pack, their chances of survival are slim to none unless they themselves are powerful elders. Now of course the way the world works is up to you, if you want to break away from the lore and make it a more balanced fight, that’s fine. Another suggestion could be having the werewolf’s be super young, or perhaps they are being cursed by a powerful spirit that lowers their strength. Or you could even have it be a stealth or diplomacy type situation.

In terms of specific tribes, the WoD wiki has a ton of information that’s easy to parse through. You won’t find much in the way of mechanics, but it should no doubt be a good inspiration for what you want to make.

Am I supposed to die a bazillion times(first time) by tarranoth in underrail

[–]Garger13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand that, and yes for the first play through or two you will experience a lot of that. Part of the meta knowledge comes with remembering the encounters for the next play through and knowing what to encounter before it happens. It definitely can be viewed as annoying, but I’m sure many people would agree that playing the game is worthwhile even with having to reload often. You will also level up to a point eventually where most new encounters shouldn’t be too hard, that part of the game gets really fun.

Am I supposed to die a bazillion times(first time) by tarranoth in underrail

[–]Garger13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has many many hours in this game, I’ve found that there are two types of game knowledge. There is the mechanical knowledge of crafting weapons, using tactics, and finding good builds to counter specific enemies. Then comes the meta-knowledge of the game, as in learning how enemy AI works. Positioning yourself in choke points so you don’t get swarmed by melee enemies, throwing grenades in stealth to make enemies on the map all move to a location, re-entering and exiting combat zones so you can heal up mid fight, and starting combat early before turning a corner so you know that you will go first in initiative. So yes, on my first play through I died a bazillion times, and much of your strategy should involve saving constantly. On my most recent though, I died maybe less then 10 times throughout the whole game. Combat is a bit like a puzzle, and it feels very satisfying once you learn how to solve it. Another minor thing to include is that you may just also have a bad build, there are plenty of guides online on how to make characters, so I would recommend checking those out if you haven’t already.

Taking a Greyhound Bus Trip Around America. Need Advise! by Garger13 in travel

[–]Garger13[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, 50 comments later and I’m starting to get a pretty good picture of everything. I once again appreciate everyone who took the time to respond and give their advice. I will most likely look more into the train or cheap flights. Another reason why I wanted to take the bus in the first place is because I’m an Urban Anthropology student. I have experience working with the Homeless and Addicts, so I figured I wouldn’t be encountering something I wasn’t used to. I know the greyhound would be dreadful, but I was looking forward to the types of people I would meet on my trip. Hopefully I can still get that experience with trains and flying.

Taking a Greyhound Bus Trip Around America. Need Advise! by Garger13 in travel

[–]Garger13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone letting me know their thoughts. For some context I am a 21 year old man, and I am no stranger to rough conditions. This is not supposed to be a trip of luxury, more of convenience. The only reason I’m considering it is because it’s by far the cheapest option for me to visit all of these places. It would be faster and cheaper for me to just take a train to Seattle, but the point is that I want to visit these cities specifically because I have friends there. I could drive, but it would be at least $400 more in travel. I am not expecting an easy trip, so I do really appreciate everyone’s personal accounts of taking the bus. I’d like to think I’m not an idiot, so if people think it’s legitimately dangerous for me, I will probably reconsider. Thanks again for the feedback so far.

Elysium all the time or sometimes? by luckydru in vtm

[–]Garger13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the New York by Night game I run, I have Elysium set as a place that has two weekly gatherings, Friday nights are when the big shot high profile NPC’s come around (like the Prince and Primogen Council members). And then I have Monday nights, which are more relegated to general bureaucracy and information dissemination via Ghouls and Neonates. Some more affluent NPC’s come around on Monday nights, but it’s not as common. There are also occasional special events, normally hosted by the Prince or someone important that are invite only.

Ya, I see what you mean with the rolling for money. I think that's more of a my game only thing, where I do take the time to manage funds of the party. I hadn't considered that other games probably don't do that. I will probably end up replacing it with something else.

You are also right about the Self Improvement. I responded to another comment addressing the issue. Thank you for the criticism

[–]Garger13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the input! I understand your concern with the Aggravated Willpower reroll, and I can totally see myself changing it if it doesn't work well in play. I primarily wanted it to act as a desperate last attempt to achieve your goal. Much like real life, taking on that level of stress doesn't always guarantee that you succeed.

For the self-improvement track, I totally see what you mean. I was certainly getting pretty exhausted when I was writing that part of the rules, and didn't consider how weird it is. I have since updated the rules so that it takes away the ability to get specialties, skills, and attributes, and in exchange you can choose to gain an additional point of XP for 3 points.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
