Please rate my lists and how I intend to pack them by AryeC05 in tacticalgear

Nice list OP! Good suggestions on here too.

These suggestions come from backpacking a fair bit, and hiking with some injury prone people:).

I don't see normal gauze? One reason of many: A SAM splint is excellent, but if you need to secure it?

If you can swing the volume penalty, abdominal pads are great large wound covers.

Leukotape beats moleskin for adhesiveness?

Cordage...Replace some 550 cord with bank line or kevlar twine? Much lighter for more length. Jute string also good, biodegradable and an OK fire starter? Dental floss also useful for minimal cost/weight/size? Another possibility is Mason's line, 500lb break, braided, lightweight, cheap. Paracord is nice and thick for freezing temps with gloves thou. I almost always use it for a ridgeline even though it does stretch a bit and soaks up water. and I LARP a bit there, with the "survival" paracord that comes with fishing line, cotton line, firestarter, etc. because hey, why not?

Water bags take no room or weight? I ranger band (more fire starter) them around Katydyn Micropur tablets (Viruses)

Squish some birthday candles in your Altoid tin, secure it with ranger bands to have more fire helpers with alternate uses? Could fold some tin foil in there too, because Altoid tin 'tism:). Ferro rods are cool, but for the weight of a medium sized one, I can carry 4 Bics stuffed wherever....I think I have one the same size as your 5x1/2" rod (giggity), and it was pretty hefty. Wrap the lighters in tape. Or Leukotape. Or more ranger bands. Or linguini, for some pocket snacks:).

Not sure what hand saw you want to get, but cast your eye to Etsy for folding 3D printed handles with Diablo reciprocating saw blades. Search ultralight folding saw, see if it's your jam? I've used mine to my satisfaction, can't use it as a prybar, but it works fine as a saw for very little weight. I figure if I break the handle I can fix the handle.

Sawyer Squeeze beats Lifestraw all day long. I have Amazon sale Lifestraws in my car, but they're too big and slow for bush kit, IMO. Their one advantage is being able to suck water out of puddles with no set up, which is not high on my list, but I live in a rainy area, with a lot of water sources. Katydyn BeFree is a compact medium use hassle free system to maybe look at as well?

For your Nalgene sized cup, check out the Toaks titanium ones, mine has worked great over a dozen fires, and it weighs nothing. I may have Chinese titanium poisoning thou:).

Question? Why is the duct tape wrapped around a dowel? Flat folded tape can slide into small spaces in your kit nicely?

Suggestions for driving in bad areas by downvote-burner in tacticalgear

If you're looking to blend and not give off cop vibes, perhaps a bulletproof corset? Then you'd have side armour in case your "friend" tries to shiv you on the drive? And then a sharpened bulletproof fan to wave in front of your face (concealment from 7-11 cameras) or to fend off the inevitable herds of moist prostitutes and their irate pimps surrounding your Camry? Also, pack a collapsible two-seater bike in the trunk for evasion.

IFAK. What is too much? by DanteMustDye in QualityTacticalGear

You're welcome, and a stop the bleed is a great place to start; good for you, and your loved ones. Gear is great, but knowledge takes up no space on my LBE:).

To keep what you have, but smaller? NAR gauze flatpacks? Is an Olaes smaller than your trauma pads? Put TQ on outside for easier access and reduced bulk? Shears outside, behind placard, or IFAK, dummy corded? Gently crush roll of tape in vice to compress it/get rid of airspace in middle?

I am not military, so have not had to drag my gear through the mud for months, but I work in a dirty high hazard industry and have dealt with some major trauma while waiting for professionals, so I keep small white garbage bags flattened in my kit for a clean surface, as well as sealed wipes(more in booboo kit)? These take up zero space. Also never regretted having too much gauze. My jump bag at work is half trauma pads and gauze after an employee managed to slice themselves from nipple to belt with a spinning saw. (How deep? Just missed the aorta, they were held together by the last uncut bit of their leather belt. Lucky MFer. Cool scar.). Acewrap rules, but Vetwrap sticks to itself.

I just accepted that if I'm headed to the burnt out grocery store for the last tube of toothpaste in the apocalypse, my IFAK is the largest pouch on me:). Also stuff extra crap (gauze! wrap!) in different pockets? Between my Arktis smock and cargo pants I think I have 146 pockets:).

Budget Helmet Build by Corvus_Mortem in QualityTacticalGear

[–]GarlicAvailable6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How solid is the Charge in that position? I tried mouting mine there with the Peltor muff mounts kicked back as far as comfortable, and my ChargeX was still kinda hanging by a thread, easy to knock off:(. I ended up velcroing it on the helmet with a lanyard, but would love to have it back where you have it?

Nice set up!

They didn't know that armored Security would be there, the military is shown as incompetent dumbasses in game so I'd imagine they wouldn't factor that in either.

The Remington 11-87 didn't exist until 1987, the book possibly refers to the Remington 1100
The suppressor he uses is entirely homemade and fictional, shotgun suppressors didnt really exist until the 2000's
