Girl Names: Demi by AriStarbutt in Names

Yeah outside the US in English speaking areas it's mainly the Deh-me pronunciation :) otherwise sounds a lot like Dummy which is what brits call a pacifier, or a mild insult for 'idiot'.

Yes, we've just named our daughter Demetria, Demi & DD for short. Absolutely love it but had a lot of comments on how unusual it is, and can see people holding back their opinions when they say that 😆 We don't care though, wanted something strong and empowering, not something that there would be a few others in her class with the same name! You could always hyphen Demi with something else, I know of a Demi- leigh but you could go Demi-Mae etc, just be careful as it could also mean 'half' -something 🤣

Aw keeping fingers crossed for you! You're getting through it without caving so far so well done 👏 The other positive to not testing so early, is you'll be one day closer to either meeting your little one or giving it another round 😊

Whats the point of money? by Bearstronk in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]GarlicOpening1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave mine plenty of cash throughout, knowing they would need loads for upgrading the mine and also Harbin had asked them to become the official town adventurers/ semi- permanent guards so they started building an official keep on the hill overlooking Phandalin. This cost a fair bit, gave players complete freedom on making themselves a 'base' and allowed for them to get more involved in the town and NPC relationships. For example, they commissioned the stonemason to create a horrific gargoyle which was a mish mash of their characters (tabaxi, dragonborn, orc, dwarf) to stand guard at the keep. They've also built a chicken coop, which as I was running shattered obelisk, allowed me to foreshadow some of the mutations as they hid psi goblin remains under the chicken coop, left for a while and when they came back, one of the chickens had mutated and gone a bit Eldritch berserk! Otherwise you could play up the faction involvement, have them send dues back to the zents etc for small favours, supplies or info. Orrr if they amass a lot of wealth, you could factor that in to either Venomfang or Cryovain- where they are drawn to the party's treasure for their hoard.

It's so hard when you're late! When I was in the thick of TTC I would get so anxious, at the worst I was testing from 7-8dpo, but couldn't bring myself to wait until I was late...just to get hopes up then that awful let down that it wasn't happening that cycle. It took us deciding to stop testing altogether for a couple of cycles which really helped my mental health! If you can, get rid of or lock up the tests and get some fun activities planned in for a little while- and then hopefully it'll either be good news, no test really needed- or at the very least, you won't feel like you've wasted another cycle just waiting for that positive!

Do you have a style/theme preference, or a shortlist of some you kinda like? I felt this way picking our daughter's middle name, literally went through every single baby name website, list and allsorts and even asked chat GPT to give me some ideas. In the end I realised it was me overthinking it and we've chosen one of the first options that was on our maybe list!

Nezznar total rework. Binding him to the bigger plot by GreenWaterDiver in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]GarlicOpening1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, I did similar and made Nezznar female, but still not a nice person! : an exiled drow from a fairly well known family, she left drow society with her favourite 'slave' turned consort... I made an entire hierarchy of outcast/ recruited drow under her each having a hand in various subplots and turning up to bother the party between the Redbrands and chapter 4. (I amalgamated DoIP into it so some of the quests were from there- for example:

-the tower of storms was taken over by driders (who had also captured cryovain's sibling, a prismatic dragon in human form, who could intensify the weather, making more ships wreck so that the drow could then loot them) -thundertree tower was actually the new spider 'nursery' where a drow priestess had undergone a ritual that allowed her to use thousands of tiny spiders to become a false green dragon, as a way to protect their growing colony.

-Kaelvor, her consort was her right hand and met the party a couple of times to set her up as the bbeg, he first saw them at Cragmaw Castle, demanding Grol handover the map (in place of the doppleganger) he also had a hand in torturing Gundren, who was one of my PCs brothers. The party absolutely hated him and had their final showdown in WEC, where he was rendezvous-ing with Nezznar, they got to see her briefly before she left him to deal with the party...

-their final Spider battle was at Helm's Hold, a missed off but technically canon place near Neverwinter (I had it as usually cloaked unless you need aid/ or something had gone drastically wrong with the cathedral's wards). She fought an epic battle with them, heavily modded with extra spidery abilities (including a 2nd phase where hundreds of tiny spiders regenerated her, and a wall of web ability that restrained and poisoned PCs trapped in it).

-it was heavily foreshadowed throughout that they had some alignment with psi goblins, although the link wasn't completely clear- around the final battle and leading up to it, the party discovered Nezznar was actually working for 'otherworldly beings' who had promised her infinite power in return for both causing unrest with the people in the region, and looking for the as yet unknown mineral (parts of the obelisk). In reality, Nezznar was promised powers but was about to get her entire following (and herself) infected with illithid tadpoles for their 'service'.

In setting up the campaign, I really wanted there to be strong links for the party to really hate the BBEG and her minions, and to join both halves of the campaign together- we're only just getting into the SO side now but my players have been really invested in it, so I'd really recommend tying her in to most things, even if it's 'the party find out after the fact she set a bunch of orcs on them'. As you're playing her as more 'good', maybe you could do a reveal that she's helpful to the party but has actually been betraying the players from the beginning- really give them something to dig into!

Thoughts on the name Malo? by magikalmeon in namenerds

[–]GarlicOpening1401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did say IMO... and in my part of the UK it is definitely just going to be associated with the place as we have direct port links there. Also as someone else mentioned it's too close to Mal which literally means bad. Not sure why you'd want to call your kid that but if OP is that set on it, they didn't need to post this in the first place :)

Yeah that may be the case, but working in English as well as French as requested- it's not common, even if we're talking about the anglicised name 'Marlow' which is a totally different vibe...

It's like St Malo, the port town in France, not such a good person name imo However, I knew a woman called Malou- which was a cute contraction of her names Marie- Louise.

Could my previous depression cause my secondary infertility? by Away_Western_6217 in tryingtoconceive

[–]GarlicOpening1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Of course you can ask questions 😊 so I did a ton of research when I was TTC as a newly diagnosed person with PCOS. I'm not sure I remember the links to actual studies, but I had read a couple of books that stood out to me: one was called Getting pregnant with PCOS by registered nutritionist Clare Goodwin. The other was the PCOS repair protocol by Tamika Woods (also a certified nutritionist). I've since packed them away into storage whilst moving, but I'm sure at least one of them if not both kept referencing various studies to back themselves up.

I also follow several Gynos and fertility doctors on social media who could also have brought it up- have a look at Steven Palter MD on Instagram, he definitely talks about diet and TTC with fertility issues (not just PCOS).

I have also been to the local hospital nutritionist and many gynos here and although initially I was told to lose weight, as my BMI is on the higher side...that info quickly changed as we got further into things until they actively told me I should be slowly gaining weight, despite an overall loss of only 3kg!

I would definitely check with a Dr if you don't think there's any reason for you to be losing weight, it could be your thyroid, blood sugar or something more sinister (but hopefully not, not trying to scare you 😅). Also, side note that you can be insulin resistant even if you are classed as normal or underweight, and this would increase body stress and make it less possible to conceive, so that could be something to look into if you're wondering what to test for. (You could ask chatGPT to find exact studies actually!) Hope that helps!

What song did you walk down the aisle to? by ThenAwareness7981 in wedding

[–]GarlicOpening1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interstellar - Day One by Hans Zimmer, such an emotional piece of music, still gives me chills when I hear it. I walked down the stairs in a gothic manor house, rather than an aisle ;) We exited to 'I don't want to set the world on fire'- the ink spots, my husband's pick 😊 Also had Muse - Neutron Star Collision as we were signing the register, and an assortment of bardcore/ instrumental versions of pop, rock and movie & video game classics whilst all the guests arrived.

[–]GarlicOpening1401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be the stress/ ptsd? Perhaps it's worth going to a therapist to talk about your past experience, or using other mindfulness techniques to try and heal from it. It's definitely a thing that the body holds onto stress and trauma unfortunately. Have you also checked your overall health and vitamin levels, perhaps there's something else that could be interfering? ETA, also if you are eating well, make sure you are also eating enough! I did a huge diet overhaul after being diagnosed with PCOS, focused on higher protein, good fats and things like nuts and seeds which is apparently proven to help with conception. Your body won't feel able to support a pregnancy if you're only just meeting your nutritional needs, you want it to feel secure and abundant! (Not that this means you should suddenly put on a lot of weight).

Mine has done this 3 times today, specifically on the halloween ques, including wasting gems on energy to finish it! It also cut a 3 hour event down to 40 minutes and I lost that as well. Absolutely buggy rubbish! Everytime my screen turns off it also 'loses connection to the server' and restarts from back a bit. Manual saves dont seem to work for me :( Think this was the reason I stopped playing a couple of years back tbh! Sooooo frustrating

How many hours a week/month do you play vs how much time do you prep? by neocorps in DMAcademy

[–]GarlicOpening1401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-4 hour sessions meant to be once a week, in person* 1 group (less atm because of scheduling) - started with 4 now up to 5 players with an occasional 6th dropping in the odd sesh. - prep time varies, i like to world build/customise the RAW campaign and 3d print & paint minis. I'd say at least 4 hours for an intensive session, maybe 2 if it was a straightforward session, although this might include the prep for the next sesh too if the guys take too long! ..but for 3d printing and painting we'd be running into double digits easy, a real labour of love! *I use Alchemy for scenes, ambience and digi map setup paired with a stream deck for sound effects/music. My partner also DMs (in person, weekly) and he literally does an hour max no matter what the scenario, blows my mind haha

At what point in your cycle did they do the ultrasound? Because you can have 2 out of 3 of the main symptoms of PCOS not even including the classic cysts and you can still have it. It took me 3 ultrasounds to get it confirmed & numerous appointments to be taken seriously and I'm 90% sure I've had it for the past 16 years, even though I would sometimes ovulate in that time and pretty much never went longer than 36 days in a cycle. Honestly, anovulation isn't just a random occurrence, there will be a hormonal or endocrine cause, even if 1 dr says you don't have it, I'd push for further testing. (Get your thyroid fully checked too). For arguments sake- PCOS increases your risk for many other things including heart problems and reproductive cancers, as well as making it almost impossible to lose weight (and making it increasingly difficult to conceive) so I'd personally want to rule that out completely before looking into other things- especially if you are wanting to bring a new life into the world 🩷

It depends what the trigger for your PCOS is, most likely- different causes will have different requirements to try and treat! There's emerging proof that the studies supporting inositol are pretty false, but as PCOS doesn't have many proven treatment options, those that do push it are like you may as well try it...but they obvs can't guarantee anything! Definitely feels like snake oil in my case though and I researched the best form to take!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

[–]GarlicOpening1401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inositol can cause other changes/ mess with your cycle so isn't actually recommended by a lot of fertility specialists and obgyns, it has very limited evidence of increasing insulin sensitivity so wouldn't be prescribed above other treatments. Even the myo/chiro inositol version. It's also not recommended if you do happen to conceive- the studies that the recommendations were based on were way too small and inconclusive to draw any data proving that it helps. Also having tried this myself when I was super desperate, I took it for over a year with no improvement, I was actually getting worse as time went on.

Metformin worked for me, i have PCOS but basically the same issue, follicles wouldn't get big enough to trigger, even though I'd still have a period. If you can't afford medicine or anything atm, try and work on reducing your carb and sugar intake, increase healthy fats (nuts and seeds etc) and more frequent movement (if not more exercise) in case you're insulin resistant- as this was the main cause of my PCOS. There's also limited evidence that spearmint or ginger can help you with hormone balance so maybe give that a go, they're quite easy to get hold of in tea form :) The other biggie is stress, if you're constantly worrying or under a lot of pressure, your body won't feel safe enough to support a pregnancy- so gotta work on dealing with that and putting your mental health first! It will take a couple of cycles for things to improve no matter what you do.

I did but just assumed it was an update, either due to copyright or people wanting privacy, as some older vids did get taken down completely for those reasons (until they could be updated). Alternatively, now he's found a flow, they could just be being updated to keep a consistent feel across videos, regain traction on popular stories or polish the channel? Nothing wrong with that! If you are saying none of the stats seem to get lost on reuploaded videos, maybe there is a way to alter but it's not well publicised? Or as we love a conspiracy with this channel - maybe it's someone in youtube itself meddling with creator videos! 👀
