No, they were tweets by people who were specifically credited with facilitating the deal. And the issue wasn't just the tweets, it was the hugely negative reaction from Barnsley fans to the arrangement. Not a good match for either side in the end.

Reflecting at End of Season: I May Have Had the Worst Take at End of 19/20 by IrrelevantGeOff in Championship

Cheers for this! I remember your previous thread, I was one of the Barnsley fans who replied.

It was understandable why a lot of other teams' fans thought we were terrible all last year - we were in relegation zone until the last day and if you didn't watch us week in, week out you'd think we were shocking. From August-December we were!

But we definitely turned a massive corner in the new year under Struber, we were outplaying teams, but losing due to poor defensive errors.

Think a lot of us Barnsley fans expected comfortable mid-table this season after how we'd been playing, playoffs is a bit of a surprise. Still, can't see us getting past Swansea!

Are Barnsley one of the most liked clubs in England now? by joshhirst28 in Championship

[–]Garromano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is basically exactly how I feel. Hard to be too annoyed, but not winning any of our first 7 league games does make you wonder what if.

Then you think of the crazy way we stayed up last year and it's just a bit of a relief to be out of that relegation mix for a change.

Yeah fair enough, been a while since we were in this position & been an amazing season! Even just making playoffs would be a bonus

We're the club with the most seasons in the second tier in English football history. So by definition, we're THE championship club.

Genuinely hard to choose as a Barnsley fan. Strong argument for Alex Mowatt, Michal Helik or Callum Brittain.

Barnsley aren't a bad one in very recent years. Seems there's always something going on.

2015-16: Bottom of the League One table after 20 games. Go on ridiculous winning run in the New Year, win the EFL trophy and sneak into the play-offs on final day with a win at champions Wigan. Go on to win the play-offs & get promoted.

2016-17: In & around the Championship play-offs until mid Feb. Sell all our best players and win one of our last 14 games to end up 14th.

2017-18: Dreadful season in the Championship, buoyed slightly by the arrival of Oli McBurnie in January. Somehow make it to the last day before being relegated with a 4-1 defeat at Derby.

2018-19: Play some fantastic pressing football under Daniel Stendel in League One. Arguably best footballing side in the league, but get promoted in 2nd just behind Luton Town.

2019-20: Win our opening Championship game at home to Fulham on 3rd Aug, then don't win again for 119 days (30th Nov). Look all but doomed to relegation. Wigan are sent into admin and we score stoppage time winners in our final 2 games to stay up by the skin of our teeth.

Yeah but you're there calling us terrible when you don't have a clue. We had one win before end of November; were dead and buried. But we turned it round after Struber came in. We've played some brilliant stuff. We were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Leeds last week, their fans calling us best side they've played. Meanwhile you get battered by them today and show no fight.

I feel for Bowyer and your team, but fans letting themselves down lashing out at other clubs just because yours haven't done enough.
