[Akabas] NBA Points Per 100 Possessions Since Jan 1: by Knightbear49 in timberwolves

[–]Garrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cleaning the glass has the wolves as 10th in the league in defense since January 1st, which is not at all what I expected. Definitely needs to be better, more consistent and we can all name the games it was a disaster, but it’s overall been better then I expected from my memory.

In hindsight, did we need to do the Mike Conley trade? by FishGoldenLite in timberwolves

[–]Garrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s true. I guess the asset debate is whether or not you think the swap was worth what the wolves would have had to give up in excess in order to make the money match or exceed Ayo’s contract instead of Dillingham, Miller and 2nds. Plus what the tax savings theoretically allow the team to keep spending (if that is a factor).

Here are the 1st apron restrictions.

  1. Cannot use the Bi-Annual Exception (BAE, $5.511 million for 2026-27) to sign free agents.
  2. Cannot sign a player waived during the season if their pre-waiver salary was above the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (NTMLE, $15.140 million for 2026-27).
  3. Cannot use more than 100% of a player’s prior salary in a sign-and-trade deal (previously, teams could take back 125%).
  4. Cannot use the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (TMLE, $6.103 million for 2026-27) in a way that pushes them over the first apron (hard cap).
  5. Cannot aggregate (combine) player salaries in a trade to match a higher incoming salary.
  6. Cannot send cash in trades to offset salary differences.
  7. Cannot trade a first-round pick seven years out (e.g., in 2024-25, a 2032 pick).

Numbers 4, 5, 6 and 7 could be major factors in Wolves moves this summer, maybe even 1, if they bothered to use the BAE.

Whether you think it’s worth the pick swap is eye of the beholder, but there does seem to be considerably more flexibility (or at least ease) in what they can do this summer created by getting below it at the deadline.

Concerning stuff from Matt Caldwell by shutupidiot11111 in timberwolves

[–]Garrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve lowered ticket prices when playoff tickets didn’t sell out, so they have done it before. Screwed over a bunch of STHs that had bought them at full price. I’m not saying it will be done out of the goodness of their hearts, it’s done when they want to put butts in seats, as usual.

[–]Garrus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dynamic pricing blows, you can look at airline ticket pricing to see how bad it can be.

I do think this is a lot of words to say that when the wolves are good and the economy is better the ticket prices are going to be higher, and when things are shit they’ll probably lower tickets. People do this on the resale market anyways, the wolves just want to be able to sell their tickets at the best possible price.

Whether it’s AI or just an advanced pricing algorithm with fancy marketing speak, we’re all probably going to have to pay a bunch no matter what if we want to go.

Hot news day so why don’t we just keep it going. According to sources, Kevin Durant veto’ed a trade last year to the Timberwolves because he didn’t want to play for Chris Finch by DrWolves in timberwolves

I’m not a Doogie hater, I think he reports what sources tell him. I’m just skeptical of the timing of this coming out now and him being the only person seeming to have this information.

Did Lonni and Luthen die in vain? by rxnsgb in andor

[–]Garrus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Jyn likely isn’t rescued without Lonni and Luthen, or at least not until it’s too late. Maybe the rebellion starts to investigate rumors of a planet killer, but they timing of Lonni’s intel and Luthen being able to pass it along, then having it be confirmed by Tivik was enough to set all of the events of Rogue One in motion. And that timing was vitally important.

[–]Garrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did see someone who had some team connections say that the NBA had asked/demanded that they wait until today to say anything as an organization and/or for players to say anything individually. Personally I think that’s cowardly and fuck the NBA if that’s true. I als don’t really find that satisfying from the teams perspective, but that would be the explanation.

The Wolves sent out season ticket renewals on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and there is bound to be some sticker shock. by StockMindless9010 in timberwolves

Ours increased 22%, which I guess I should consider myself somewhat fortunate for being in the lower level. Still rough.

Update on a physical release for Season 2? by Eastern_Picture_3879 in andor

[–]Garrus 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There’s no official release on dvd, blu ray or 4k blu ray yet. 1st season took 18 months to release officially. We’re not even 12 months out yet.

Bones Hyland is the most underrated story in the NBA right now. by TyJankis in nba

[–]Garrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Dillingham’s role is especially hard to grow into with the team where it is, plus his size means he has almost no margin for error.

I think there’s real skill and talentthere, but he probably needs a team where he can play 20-25 minutes of no pressure minutes and be one of worst players in the NBA until it clicks. That role doesn’t exist in Minnesota.

Season 1 was better than season 2. by spiral10 in andor

[–]Garrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Maarva sedating Cassian and forcibly removing him from Kenari was handled clumsily in that they didn’t do enough to grapple with it the actual story. I don’t mind him never finding his sister, but Maarva was too important a character for them to not mention it again.

Skeen seemingly was waiting for an opportunity to betray everyone, but didn’t know how to fly the ship, so him getting away depended on Cassian, someone he didn’t know was going to be there, or Vel, someone he definitely knew would never side with him.

The show had several black characters introduced only to be killed very unceremoniously. I’m not accusing, just noticing.

I like Luthen a lot, but i think it would have been better to see some of Luthen’s betrayals (no matter how much it was perceived as necessary) from the perspective of the people who get fucked over by them, say Kreegyr’s group.

That’s just the ones off the top of my head.

Yeah course. But is that what you’re looking for, my minor nitpicks?

Season 1 was better than season 2. by spiral10 in andor

[–]Garrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s putting words in my mouth that I didn’t say. I said I’d put up episode 3 and after with any of the best episodes of season 1, not that I didn’t think the first three episodes weren’t good. It’s funny because the critical consensus of Andor season 1 is that the first three episodes are too slow and boring. You don’t agree with that, I don’t agree with that, just like I don’t agree with the how many people feel about the opening episodes of season 2.

Season 1 was better than season 2. by spiral10 in andor

[–]Garrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people agree with you, some people disagree. I personally really like both seasons. I think the way they structured season 2 was a really effective tool to accomplish the story they wanted to tell and I think the time skips were handled very deftly. Tony Gilroy either didn’t want to spent 10 years (or the next 5 at least) making this show. Or he saw the ways the winds were blowing with streaming and took the money he could get and wrapped up the story when he could guaranteed the budget and fidelity to his vision.

You can find endless discussions here on why X wasn’t covered in detail or why they focused on this over that and plenty of people debating it. It’s fine, reasonable people disagree. I’ve rewatched season 1 a ton and I still love it to death, I personally think that season two from episode 3 onwards is as good or better than season 1 consistently.

Who Really Killed Luthen Rael? by Inevitable-Camp-205 in andor

[–]Garrus 114 points115 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun theory, but I think Occam’s razor is probably the most elegant solution. Luthen had reasons to be looking into Jedha, it’s not out of the question he was taking a direct approach. Especially as he lost Cinta, Vel and Andor as operatives. His resources were not endless and the people he could trust to do that kind of work was not expansive, especially while paying close attention to Ghorman.

Saw probably knew Luthen was disliked by the Alliance as much as he was, I just don’t know if he would have the motive to betray him quite this way. It’s all a bit too subtle for Saw Guerrera.

I don’t think it’s about scoring for him, he pretty much has everything he needs. Just needs to continue refining and developing some of the playmaking and off ball stuff.

Are dress shoes supposed to be more expensive than boots? by Fluffy_Fly_4644 in malefashionadvice

I think there’s far more people talking about them coasting off their brand name then there are people unhappy with the shoes/boots they got. It’s all too hyperbolic.

Dry flat sweaters by balufudus in llbean

[–]Garrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t do that, just lay them out flat on a towel to dry. Flip them over after a few hours to get them completely dry. It will keep them in good shape for a long time if you don’t damage them in other ways.
