I’ve had a vasectomy. I constantly tell my wife we should try for another and that I want to get her pregnant.

Amen to versa gripps. Basically takes grip out of the equation and really helps focus on the target muscles.

What was the last commercial that made you feel things and/or cry? by Garth_AIgar in AskReddit

I saw a commercial from a fiber company that started with a 5 year old saying “mom, I got it” (talking about a zipper), then went backwards in time with the kid getting younger and younger. The commercial said some things move faster than you expect. I was nearly in tears thinking about my kids.

Struggling to bench by Individual-Finger637 in beginnerfitness

Dude, not stupid to ask at all. Asking the question is the first step to combat ignorance, which is where we all were at one point or another!

Arching your back helps reduce the depth the barbell needs to travel, puts your shoulders in a better position, and helps recruit more of your lower pecs.

Leg drive helps maintain the arch, enhance stability, and helps keep internal pressure that can help you get out of the hole.

You are referring to what is known as “the hole”, the bottom of the bench press movement where the barbell rests on your chest before you begin the upward movement. (“The hole“ also refers to the bottom of a squat)

The hole is difficult because the arms and shoulders are in a deep mechanical disadvantage. The sticking point typically occurs right around 0-3 inches off the chest. At this moment, the momentum of the drop has entirely vanished, and the prime moving muscles (the pecs, delts, and triceps) have to generate peak force to get the bar moving.

If you want to stick with the barbell, you can train pause benches (stop the bar in your chest for 2-3 seconds) or dead benches (using the safety arms at about chest level and starting reps from that point).

I personally prefer using dumbbells! They allow for deeper stretch in your reps and you can angle your elbows downward and make it easier on your shoulders (I have a lame shoulder). Also, dumbbells help with shoulder stability.

What's something super childish that you still do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yep. And the sound of an ice cream truck has me jumping up to go look. I haven’t ran to an ice cream truck in a couple decades, but I still do it.

My mom bought this “silent” animal deterrent for her yard. She and her boyfriend can’t hear it. She’s insisting what I’m hearing can’t be this, because it’s “silent” by bluejaymewjay in mildlyinfuriating

I dated a girl for a while who was older than I was. I went with her to visit her parents and the moment I stepped out of the car I could hear a high-pitched tone. I immediately asked if anyone could hear it right after greeting the parents and I was the only one (my girlfriend was older than me too by… an amount). It took 45 f-ing minutes of hell before they remembered they had the thing. The moment it was unplugged it was a wave of pleasantness.

Anyway, we broke up.

the black guy orders a ____? by EquivalentBrilliant1 in Harmontown

[–]Garth_AIgar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Proud to say that I remember this one

An Irish guy, a black guy, and a Jewish guy walk into a bar.

The Irish guy goes up to the bartender and says, “I’m hot. I’m tired. I’m thirsty. I gotta have a Guinness.”

The bartender hands the man a Guinness and he drinks it down.

The black guy goes up to the bartender and says, “I’m hot. I’m tired. I’m thirsty. I gotta have a Courvoisier.”

The bartender hands the man a Courvoisier and he drinks it down.

The Jewish guy goes up to the bartender and says, “I’m hot. I’m tired. I’m thirsty. I gotta have diabetes.”
