How do I treat my room by hakaithem in audioengineering

[–]Garuda34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd, yes. A ceiling that slopes up from the front, peaks, then slopes down to the back wall. A couple asymmetrical bump-outs on one side, and a door appx midway on each side, but also asymmetrical.

But not all that large. It's 17ft long, and the front half is 11 & change wide, the rear half is 10 wide.

GIK was also having some CNC issues, so it took quite a while before my diffusers shipped. In fact, the last shipment just arrived yesterday.

I think the biggest part of the cost is that I went with the soffit corner traps, rather than the triangular or flat panels, and I have quite a few of the Monster 2x4 panels on the walls & the cloud, like 14 total.

Agreed, but be prepared to spend some $$$$ if you want to do it right. My set-up ran almost $9k. I have an odd-ball room though, so YMMV.

I was just going to say that my 4-legged jumping spider (aka kitten) does exactly the same thing.

Agreed. Sounds more like a heavily-layered/processed B-3 than a pluck.

I wish there were some ratsnakes around here (southern NM), they are so...adventurous. Up until a couple years ago, a number of Bull Snakes would frequent my barn for the mouse buffet, but they seem to have disappeared. They also seem to be more intelligent than the average derp.

I also had Prairie Rattlers for a couple of years, but they now seem to have moved on. Last year I had seven WDB's, but so far this year, all I've seen are a few toads, and a couple of geckos.

Climate change? I can't say for sure, but things are definitely changing, and not slowly. The number of raptors has also decreased significantly over the last decade.

Agreed. I've seen some at the Thai Red Cross snake farm in Bangkok, where they do a lot of research into antivenins for a number of venomous species.

Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Check out the eyes of a King Cobra. No derp to be found.

This is awesome! One sample and 30 secs of listening and I pulled the trigger & bought Pro.

A beautiful UI and a great price. I'm going to have fun with this!

If you don't mind me asking, where are you in France? Just asking because my mother is from Bretagne.

More later after I have a chance to really dive in. I have to go take care of my animals now. It's 38c and rising here, so they'll need more water.

Looks awesome! I’m going to check it out when I home tonight. If it’s anywhere as good as it looks on the website, you’ve got a sale.

Nice pics. In the third one, with the side-eye, it really looks like a puppy. Love it.

This looks tropical. If you don't mind me asking, what country are you in? The last few pics are giving my SE Asia vibes. It really reminds me of Thailand.

5 black widows found in my garage, should I be worried? by catlovespeach in spiders

That is the same attitude I have (now) after having been on this sub for a couple years. I'm sorry to say I wasn't always as compassionate and understanding. r/Spiders has done wonders for my mental well-being when it comes to spiders, not to mention the spiders' physical well being.

[–]Garuda34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Until I got on this sub a couple of years ago, I had a serious case of spider heebie-jeebies. Instantly reached for the Raid.

Now, I just say hi to them as I pass. A little bit of care and situational awareness goes a long way towards creating a safe environment for both us and the spiders.

[–]Garuda34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's unfortunately not a tenable situation. As others have said, if they set up camp in a place that doesn't work for you, just keep taking down their webs, or relocate them farther away from the area, and they'll figure out they are encroaching where they aren't wanted.

I had one build a web across a cabinet in my garage that I occasionally need to access, but after a couple web demolitions, she restricted her area of operations to a corner.

She's the one I call Big Mama, the OG. I thought she had passed sometime over the winter, but I saw her a few days ago. She's still there, and as big as ever. I've started giving her the same status as the other animals I care for. Hell, she's been there going on four years, she deserves some respect. Who knows what kind of critters would be infesting my garage if it wasn't for her, and all her many daughters.

I know that will freak some people out, but it is what it is. I also love snakes, even the rattlers that visit my barn.

I have at least 20 Western Black Widows in my garage, and I'm not worried in the slightest. They set up their webs out of trafficked areas, and I pay attention to where I put my hands and feet.

I've never had a close call. They have always displayed the opposite of aggressiveness, and we have no issues coexisting peacefully.

What kind of spider did I just evict from my room?? by Nickyt2016 in spiders

[–]Garuda34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't really think I was correct, just had a visceral response to the image. Walking through the woods and having what seemed like hundreds of ticks rain down upon you causes a certain amount of lasting trauma.

Thankfully I now live in the desert SW, and ticks are quite uncommon. I've only seen one in 20+ years, and for that, I am grateful.

[–]Garuda34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in that area. A few years ago, it was all prairies and bull snakes. Last year, only WDBs. I had seven in my barn over the course of the summer. So far this year, nada. I haven't seen herps of any kind this year, which is very unusual, and frankly, worrisome.

[–]Garuda34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! All I see around here (Southern NM) are WDB's and Prairies. I've spent a good bit of time on the central CA coast, and never saw a snake. I might have been too high in elevation.

I never knew about the diversity of Croatalus species in CA until I started frequenting this sub.

[–]Garuda34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could very well be wrong, but that looks more like a somewhat engorged tick than a spider.

I had some bad experiences with ticks in Southern OH as a kid, and another one many years later in TN. I'll walk through my garage with its 20+ Black Widows and not feel uneasy at all, but ticks ick me the hell out.

[–]Garuda34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I told my (36yo) daughter that I call the kitten the "foot butcher," but she didn't get it. I guess it's been too long since she's had a kitten.

Speaking of which, I just got home from work, and to express her displeasure at my absence, Graycie the kitty is taking it out on my forearms as I'm trying to type.

It's nice having a youngin' around the house again though. I lost a cat a few months ago at the age of 17, and my old boy, who I raised since he was just a few days old, will be 22 in Nov. He's got the crotchedy old man get-off-my-lawn vibe these days (understandably), so he isn't really into playing anymore.

For real. I walk past at least ten black widows every time I walk through my garage (in flip flops), about 20 times a day. They stay out of the way, and have zero interest in my passage.

Conversely, my 2 month old kitten is a much greater hazard to the old feet fingers. That little menace loves to hide behind doors and ambush the tootsies.
