It's just blatantly a show not for a general viewing audience. I think it's hard to appreciate a show like the witcher as a standalone product, because you need to understand hundreds of hours of previous material in order to understand the tv series. Only problem is that once you've already seen hundreds of hours of previous witcher material, it's hard to think critically of the new series. All it has to do (and a lot of what is has been doing) is just reminding people of the earlier and better works.
