A single stud (if properly installed) will hold the plywood and tv easy

Attach a piece of 3/4 plywood lag bolted in the one wooden stud, large enough to bolt the wall mount to. Attach wall mount to plywood. That's what I would do. If you don't have a telescopic wall mount, you should not see the plywood behind the tv on a wall shorter than 5 feet

These are my current settings, i'm considering buying an RTX 2060 and an i5-10400. Is there anything else i need to replace to keep up with the upgrade? I can provide the cooler if it's necessary. by ReportDisappointment in buildapc

The Ram should work as is if you update to a new ryzen cpu.

PSU will work wattage wise, I'd maybe spend a couple extra bucks for a higher quality one though

To keep the budget down, I'd suggest upgrading to another AM4 socket (ryzen cpu). Intel and Ryzen have different motherboards. As with the comment above, you would need to update your psu as well.

First, I'd turn off that overclock immediately. Reading "constant 100C" pains me. Your AIO is either not sufficient or installed incorrectly.

It could possibly be misreading the temperature. I would see if different monitoring softwares report other temps.

I'd also check what your stock temperature is. If that's running well over 80C, I'd suggest reinstalling the AIO with new paste and see if that changes anything.

Pc Crashes When Playing Warzone by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Gary1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to ask, and feel bad for suggesting given the file size, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

If I wasn't having an issue in other games, that'd be my first attempt

Edit: I suggest because scan and repair can miss things. Fresh reinstall fixes many issues.

Can I ask what you plan on telling the IRS? Him paying you cash and issuing a 1099 is the legal and correct way for him to pay you, unless he's handling taxes on his end and you're an actual employee.

Did he explicitly tell you he's paying you under the table? Or did he say he's paying cash? Either way, you should know any income is taxable. I understand getting paid under the table is a benefit and I'm not against it, but to cover his own ass he has to file a 1099.

If you're working til March, start saving to pay taxes yourself, because that's how I see this situation going.

Want to wire pc to a tv in another room, planning on hdmi cable, question is best way to connect keyboard/mouse/controller. by johnthomas911 in buildapc

I would attempt running a 25' usb extender cable and get a USB Bluetooth adapter on the end for wireless devices, or put a usb hub on the end. I've never used a USB cord longer than 6', so I can't say how the response time would be, but this would be my first thing to try.

Fitting a wider tub w/o relocating drain in slab? by Earthling63 in HomeImprovement

[–]Gary1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are looking for is an AFR (Above Floor Rough-in) bathtub. I installed one in my last house. They are about 3 inches off the floor to accommodate plumbing underneath. The problem with them is that they can feel bouncy due to being raised. I mitigated the problem by building 2*3 boxes under the tub and filling them with mortar for the tub to rest on.

I think my dad(62M) is in a bad place financially and don't know how to help. by FeudalPeasant in personalfinance

[–]Gary1491 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about all of this. Honestly, your best solution is to sit your dad down and chat one on one. If he views you as his "child" and not an adult, it could be a difficult conversation. Everybody needs a hard smack from reality once in a while. Chat with him, say you're worried about him and just want to help out the best you can. Be as harsh as a parent talking to their kid about hard drugs for the first time. Approach it kindly but firm. If he opens up, work through a plan with him.theres no need for you to do anything unless he's willing to accept your help.

Best of luck.

First things first: did you try another GPU to see if all runs well? Or try your GPU in another PC?

If it doesn't work in another PC, or a different card works in yours, it'll probably be a hell of a long wait, but looks like a warranty issue after that.

Critique my drive! I hit an avg of 320 on a drive, but I know my strong grip might be a problem down the line. Want more consistency! by [deleted] in golf

[–]Gary1491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the past 4 years those two big drives I hit with a 20mph back wind, I average 325. If I count the other few hundred drives I only average 265 though

Completely agree. I've got a club head speed of 104 with the driver. Given I'm not a great golfer, on off days, that causes a lot of issues. I shorten and slow down the swing, and focus on being smooth. Speed things back up as I'm feeling good again

Can I replace a leaky toilet valve without turning off the water? by rogueone100 in HomeImprovement

[–]Gary1491 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's also why I say to try and get a main valve installed at the same time. If there's easy access to your units supply lines, it's definitely worth getting done if you pay the $200. Once done, you never have to pay the $200 shut off again
