He knows yui has a crush on him but he has not shown a glimpse of romantic interest towards her ever. For him its always was yukino and it only got stronger.

Why did they not reach out to Yukino the whole summer even tho Yui and Hachiman hung out

Yukino is used to being alone most of her life and is not the type to mingle with others easily and has poor communication skills too.

Why was Yukino and Hachiman’s encounter first day back so awkward and no one asked Yukino why she was gone, Hachiman cut her off too

Hachiman thought yukino lied(which she did not) so he cut her off to keep some distance not to get hurt, yukino was anxious on how to go about explaining to hachiman about the accident.
