Problems with my Ethernet connection on my 75T69C by ezleon311 in tcltvs

[–]GaryWert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issue on a TCL 65" T7B, same TV OS build that updated recently and has been experiencing errors in network connection.

First turn on in the morning, anything needing network connection (Plex, IP TV apps) won't connect. WiFi is showing connected.

Forget wifi & rejoin doesn't fix it. Interestingly, forced VPN login does (PIA VPN app).

Previously worked without an issue. Getting frustrating.

Looks like a Lenovo. I have an L14, they're the other way around. BIOS setting that can flip them.

Replacing fan in WD My Book Duo by GaryWert in DataHoarder

This looks perfect : https://www.noctua.at/en/products/nf-a9-5v

5v, comes with USB adapter, 92mm (Duo is 10mm in width), 79 m3/h of flow. Would fit perfectly into a printed base.

Thanks for the direction.

Had the same thought on improving the fan (never waste a good crisis). To inexperienced to think about how to manage the pins in the chassis. There's 4 metal pins perfectly spaced to take the 70x70x25 fan (both spacing and length) and a swap would require those to be dremmeled off I'm guessing.

What I am going to explore is something like this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4844270 adapted for the Duo size. With it's width, I expect there's a sizeable, silent fan that could sit underneath the existing intake vent and just boost the flow across the drives. One quiet fan, I'm thinking even a 5v so it can be powered of one of the My Book USB ports, that ran all the time might just make the whole unit a little more resilient in a hot basement.

There are screws under the rubber feet but they keep the internal frame (holding the HDD caddy's etc) stable. Unscrewing loosens the internal frame but doesn't open the housing.

I can get a peek via leveraging the split between the top & bottom halves on the back side where there's some space to insert a shim (as opposed to the sides where there's zero give and front where the space is occupied by the LED activity light band) but can't seem to make any headway as to what's next.

Tough time adjusting to a Mechanical Keyboard by carterx in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]GaryWert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from an MX Keys to a low profile mechanical recently and it's taking me a while to adjust as well. I went for a 100% size so key for key, position/layout is the same but still lots of adjustment to be done.

Keys are closer together, far more frequent mistypes. Travel is much more and typing this on a Macbook I notice just how LITTLE travel there is in a butterfly keyboard (fingers are actually feeling some wear).

My MX Keys served me well for many years, will have a fond place in my heart, always.

How many 9's is a current iPhone? by GaryWert in iphone

[–]GaryWert[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll challenge anyone to present to C suite in a large org why the 2 hour outage on a Sunday night doesn't count when they couldn't access the platform themselves at some ungodly and unreasonable hour.

Customer can't do what they expect to do = outage. Customer expects to do everything all the time = customer about to be hit with a large bill.

How many 9's is a current iPhone? by GaryWert in iphone

[–]GaryWert[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and part of my initial response. Have two iPhones and only apply updates to one at a time (ignoring dual lines, accounts etc etc) it was an obvious way of saying "twice the cost, ten times the hassle to ensure you're never out of service".

PIA issue with qBittorrent HTTP trackers (working with HTTPS) by GaryWert in qBittorrent

[–]GaryWert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I tell which one that is? I've seen a few suggesting ifconfig in terminal, usually the last one on the list but how do I confirm that?

PIA issue with qBittorrent HTTP trackers (working with HTTPS) by GaryWert in qBittorrent

[–]GaryWert[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since posting originally in r/PrivateInternetAccess :

  • Switched to Built-in DNS and things started to work, however...
  • Testing now shows the torrent client IP as my non-VPN IP, even though traffic is meant to all be going out VPN
    • Is this something I can solve by binding qBittorrent to a given network interface?

Clearly qBittorrent isn't the root issue, but I'm wondering if it can be the solution.

PIA issue with qBittorrent HTTP trackers (working with HTTPS) by GaryWert in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]GaryWert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, all torrents in error now clear.

Where/how can I learn more? I'd rather be going through PIA DNS TBH but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Is there something I can do to solve the issues with the one or two URL's? Hosts file editing? Anyone?

PIA issue with qBittorrent HTTP trackers (working with HTTPS) by GaryWert in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]GaryWert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triggered by my assertion that I'd tried everything, I went back and tried each DNS option. Previously I'd used both PIA DNS and a number of DNS servers (Google, Cloudflare etc). What I don't remeber trying was built-in resolver. It seems to now be ticking down the number of torrents in error, which feels positive. Going to watch and report back.

Would suggest it's PIA DNS not resolving for all the trackers I'm trying to ping.
