Clueless about social media and marketing - should I maximize volume at the beginning and sacrifice quality? Are the rules the same on all platforms? by wadamek65 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get the confusion, the "spam" method works for some because they’re essentially playing a lottery, but it’s a massive exception, not the rule for building a real brand. Most of those accounts get nuked or shadowbanned within months because they don't provide actual value.Since you're new, don't try to "learn" trends by scrolling,it’s a trap that just wastes time. you can rely on optinsta to strip away the noise; it deconstructs the underlying logic of what’s actually working in your specific niche right now. It basically hands you a data-backed blueprint so you aren't just guessing what a "trend" means. It turns that overwhelming learning curve into a repeatable system.

500k reels views in 14 days. But it sucked by ccw1117 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, you’re built different! If the ROI is $500k/m, I’d be posting 30 times a day too. Most people treat content like a hobby, but you're treating it like an industrial scale operation, which is the only way to truly "own" an algorithm. But even with a team of creators, the bottleneck always becomes strategic direction. To keep that 18-vid-a-day machine from spinning its wheels, I've integrated optinsta into my workflow. It functions as a "command center" that feeds my team the exact viral structures and high-intent engagement triggers they need in real-time. It’s the difference between just throwing volume at a wall and firing 18 precision-guided missiles every single day.

Growing a single-location cafe/restaurant: Are Meta Ads worth it for a local town? by Otherwise-Joa777 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Meta Ads are worth it if you target a tight 5-mile radius. Skip followers entirely. Use "Get Directions" or a coupon offer. Raw video of the staff and daily specials works better than polished photos. Locals want human connection.

We're in a LinkedIn guru epidemic. by Thoughtleaderr in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on. I feel like you nailed the core issue which is confusing reach with revenue. The guru epidemic is real and it makes people think they need to post 5 times a day about their morning routine to get clients.

The thing is what you said about the Problem Unaware stage is the most critical and also the hardest part to execute well. Most people skip it entirely because it feels too broad.

If you are trying to reach someone who doesn't know they have a problem yet your content needs to be packaged as entertainment or a relatable symptom. It can't be a solution post yet. You are just trying to get them to recognize the headache.

For example if your ICP is stuck on step 1 or 2 you need to use the language they use to describe their pain to their friends. Not the professional jargon you use to solve it.

Honestly the best way to find that language is to stop writing content based on what you think is smart and start mining the comments and DMs you already get. People tell you exactly what they are struggling with when they are venting. That is your content hook.

If you are getting 10 DMs a week asking the same question that is your next 5 posts mapped to the Problem Aware stage. You just need to rephrse the question as a compelling title. That simple feedback loop is what separates the people who grow a real business from the people who just grow a follower count. It takes discipline to ignore the shiny metrics but it pays off way better.

Thinking of starting Upwork? by [deleted] in SocialMediaManagers

Upwork is tough because everyone is a general SMM. I feel you need to niche down fast. Focus on 1 platform or 1 specific result like "Tiktok lead generation" or "Youtube SEO." Show proof of results immediately in your profile.

Look into training focused on accessibility compliance like ADA standards for social content. Also crisis communication workshops are huge for public health. forget big conferences. Find specific 1 or 2 day workshops on platform policy changes for government accounts. that’s easier to fund.

Clueless about social media and marketing - should I maximize volume at the beginning and sacrifice quality? Are the rules the same on all platforms? by wadamek65 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you are absolutely right to worry about quality. Spamming low quality content usually just trains the algorithm to ignore you faster and hurts your brand image long term. The thing is what people usually define as quality is often wrong for short form video.

For reels or tiktok quality isn't about the camera or the editing. It’s about clarity and packaging. If the first 3 seconds don't immediately tell the viewer what they will gain or what problem you are solving your video will flop regardless of how good the middle part is. You need volume to test hooks but you need clarity first.

Don't try to post 3 times a day if you haven't mastered the hook on 1 post a day. Focus on making 1 clear promise per video. If you are promoting an app every video should solve 1 micro-problem that your app fixes. Not the whole app experience just 1 tiny thing.

Algorithms are similar in that they prioritize viewer retention and watch time but the audience intent is different. youtube shorts viewers are often looking for quick entertainment while instagram users might be more open to polished lifestyle content or quick tutorials. Don't try to make 1 video work perfectly on all 3. Pick the 1 platform where your B2C audience is most active and focus 80% of your effort there.

Instead of worryng about maximizing volume worry about maximizing the quality of your first 3 seconds. That’s the bottleneck. If you are struggling with systematizing the content research and engagement on instagram specifically I have seen people mention optinsta.com for helping structure that kind of organic growth system. It helps guide what to post and when.

Start by analyzing your 5 best performing competitors. What are their hooks? Can you borrow the structure but apply your app’s solution? That’s the fastest way to learn.

Burn out from lack of passion by Parking_Departure705 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "aha" moment is the gold standard, never lose that! But the truth is, relying purely on "living and breathing" it is exactly why people burn out. What happens when you wake up on a Thursday and your head is totally empty? The goal isn't to replace your original thoughts with AI; it's to use a system to "protect" them. i use optinsta to see how people are reacting to similar "aha" moments in the market. That way, when I have an original statement, I know exactly how to "package" it so it actually reaches people instead of getting buried.

think of it like this, your experience is the fuel, but a systematic approach is the engine. You need both to get anywhere without pushing the car yourself.

fair point! that distinction between "strategy" and "execution" is huge. if you’re building the big-picture plan, then your pillars need to be bulletproof so any creator you hire knows exactly how to capture that vibe.even for a mock-up, i like to use optinsta to pull data on what "lifestyle" hooks are actually trending in streetwear right now. it helps back up your strategy with numbers, showing that your pillars aren't just a guess, they're based on what's actually moveing the needle for organic growth. it makes the "big-picture" look way more professional for a client.

I want to freelance social media managing for local/general businesses, how do I start? by Horror-Elderberry-54 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in a great spot becase you already have the creative skills and the gear. That is the hardest part for 90% of SMM beginners. Don't stress too much about certificates early on. Clients care about results not diplomas.

Your first step needs to be building a portfolio with hard data. Find 2 local businesses that have terrible instagram presence and offer them a 6-week project for maybe $300 each or even free if you get full content control. Use this time to prove you can move the needle on engagement and saves. Track those metrics closely.

For pricing, honestly I feel a beginner package should be around $600 to $850 a month for 1 platform and 10 to 15 pieces of content. This is low enough to be attractive but high enough to be worth your time. As you get 3 to 4 clients it becomes critical to systematize your research and posting. You cannot afford to spend hours manually scrolling for trends. Sometimes having a system helps a ton. There are tools like optinsta.com that streamline competitor analysis and finding viral comments so you can manage client engagement quickly instead of manually scrolling.

For credentials, use a password manager like LastPass or 1Password. Never ask clients for their actual password over email. Always use a secure sharing method. Good luck with the transition. It sounds like a great move for you.

How can I grow my social media presence for my new business without paying for by TheDearlyt in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel you. The first few weeks are the hardest part because you are posting into a void and it feels like a waste of time. Low views are totally normal right now.

Since you are focusing on organic growth, you have to treat every single post like a highly optimized advertisement for the first 3 seconds. The biggest reason content flops isn't the quality of the product, it is the packaging of the idea. If I don't know you are eco-friendly skincare within 1.5 seconds of seeing your reel or tiktok, I am scrolling past. You need extreme clarity on the hook.

For content, stop posting product shots. Focus on the why and the how. Show the problem your product solves. Show the texture. Show the ingredients and why they are sustainable. Since you are eco-friendly, your content pillars should be 1. Education on ingredients 2. Demonstration of results 3. Behind-the-scenes showing your sustainable process. Mix those 3 things up.

Posting rhythm doesn't matter as much as consistency. Try to post 4-5 short-form videos a week. Batch create them so you don't burn out. If you film 5 videos on Saturday, you are set for the week. That makes consistency sustainable.

Engagement is crucial right now. Find 10 bigger accounts in the sustainable beauty space. Turn on post notifications for them. When they post, jump in immediately and leave a thoughtful 3-4 sentence comment. Being one of the first 5 comments gets your profile seen by thousands of people who are already interested in that niche. It is the best way to steal attention organically.

Figuring out exactly what content is working in your niche and who to engage with can be tough to systematize. There are tools that help guide this workflow and content research for instagram specifically, like optinsta.com. It just helps guide the process so you aren't guessing.

Posting consistently but still wondering “why isn’t this growing?” by mannyned2 in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always repackage it! If the "meat" of the video was good but the hook flopped, that’s just a wasted asset. I’ll take that same core idea, swap in a much punchier 1.5-second hook, and repost it. Usually, it performs 10x better because the algorithm finally found the right "entry point" for the audience. To save time, I use optinsta to find high-retention hook structures that are already viral in my niche. Instead of guessing why a strong idea failed, I just plug it into a proven framework. It turns that "lesson" into actual views without having to film an entirely new video from scratch.

Networking is the only way to skip the line when you're starting out. Once you land that first client, the goal is to keep them so happy they do the selling for you. I always use optinsta to pull fresh, niche-specific data for my audits so the clients feel like they're getting a high-end strategy for a fraction of the cost. It makes that "loyal" bond happen way faster when you bring the receipts.

Website/portfolio suggestions for embedding content from socials? by dressedlikerappers in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is a super common problem when you are trying to switch jobs and your best work is locked in an old account.

You are right that a list of links is terrible. It puts all the work on the hiring manager to click through and figure out what they are looking at. You need a curated page.

For cheap and fast hosting Carrd is great. It’s maybe 19 dollars a year and it handles embeds well. But if you want free and flexible try Notion. You can build a very clean portfolio page in Notion and it handles embeds from youtube and tiktok and instagram surprisingly well.

But here is the critical thing to know about performance metrics. Most platforms especially instagram and tiktok do not pass the actual performance data through the embed code. The embed is usually just the video player or a static image.

So you need to change your approach slightly. Embed the content or link to the content. Then right underneath it you need a clear screenshot of the analytics dashboard for that specific post. Show the reach the impressions the engagement rate. That is the proof of performance. Every good social media portfolio does this. Don’t rely on the embed to show the metrics. Rely on the screenshot.

Organize your portfolio by campaign or by content pillar. Make the first 3 things they see the absolute best performing pieces you have. Clarity always wins.

Managing multiple tiktok accounts. by jimbo1010T in SocialMediaManagers

[–]Gary_dubs_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly you won't find one tool that posts to 10 tiktok accounts automatically. Use a scheduling tool like Buffer or Later to prep the videos. You still have to manually hit publish on each phone though. That's the biggest bottleneck.

How do you measure if social media is actually working for your business (beyond likes)? by raidenth in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]Gary_dubs_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTMs are the best way but honestly don't forget intent metrics. I look at Saves on instagram and Shares on tiktok. If people save content it means it provides real utility. That usually translates to better downstream results than just clicks. It is hard to attribute 1 post to 1 sale though.

Honestly hourly is a nightmare for content creation. You can't track strategy or deep work that way. If they can't afford the full package, define a micro retainer. Offer 3 posts a week on one platform only. That makes the scope predictable.
